This really makes me sad. Even though I never visit there. Many older Blacks people I used to work with would tell me of great time at "The Black Pearl". When Id tell them I'm going to Myrtle Beach , One Elderly Lady told me " You can't go there, They don't allow Black people on the beach". You have to go to Atlantis Beach or Cherry Grove". This was in 1986.

This is a great video! Thank you so much for sharing. I have heard stories about Atlantic Beach from my mom. Atlantic Beach is a historic landmark that needs to be preserved.

When I was a child, every group trip to Myrtle Beach, we took time to go to Atlantic Beach. It was hopping back then. A lot of Black families visited from North Carolina. I visited there about 35 years later and surprised how much it declined. It's a place I would love to move to. The only place in South Carolina I want to live in.

I just found this beach for the first time a couple weeks ago. It touched my heart right off. I found peace on this beach. Now I understand why it touched my heart the way it did.

Well, I'm here to do an update, and sadly, it isn't good. Anyone out there would do well to stay away from this place, and from NMB in general. The old legendary hate is alive & well there still. I was shocked. I moved there, really put myself out to do so, only to see the horrible truth bare itself halfway through my move. I had to reverse tracks on the spot to stay safe. I was truly traumatized. There are local interests out of NMB that need to be watched out for. And they have their eyes on this property for their own private interests. What they want is your money and then you can just git. And avoid those violent police at all costs too. I'm a handicapped senior vet, no criminal or addict, but they do not respect there. Forewarned is the key word.
Stay safe out there everyone. Peace out.

What happened? I was just there and the community is very quaint and charming. It’s a lovely respite from the commercial development all around.

They should take the city of north Myrtle beach to Federal court for annexing themselves around the city of Atlantic beach so they couldn't grow. The city of Atlantic beach should of had the right to grow and annex their city further out as well. The city of north Myrtle purposely Annex around them so they couldn't grow... it's not right. In order for our people to stand with you, you have to stand up for your rights to belong first.

Atlantic Beach could be annexed to North Myrtle Beach, the town is just too small to have sufficient law enforcement and infrastructure for it's good people there and the drug dealers know it.But regardless what happens,it will alway's be a proud historic community.or neighborhood if it ever becomes a part of North Myrtle Beach.

With desegregation lots of these old towns fell off When you have lots of structures gone it's very sad It was a resort town It's hard to feel left behind with memories of what was These Uber wealthy African Americans need to invest and get busy

Desegregation was one of the worst things that happened to us. We wanted to be apart of their world so bad we neglected our own. It’s terrible BUT there’s hope. More of us are realizing that we work better together then apart

Maybe it's just my way of thinking. But seems we as Black should have taken advantage of segregation. Whatever we had was our own. Our Hotels, beaches, music. All that was our. Whether is was good or bad it was our. I would to go to a beach where there was nothing to see but Black people from one end to the other. Just have the opportunity to be myself with my people..Who are called by my name. Black, Nubian ,Swahili with s n-word in site. That was our chance to be ourselves as Black Americans. But we fought to give it all up just to be like White people.
