you don't always see guides exploiting information like yourself, that's why I love this channel... it's more fun when everybody is catching fish. humbleness and honesty shall reward you with big fish, tight lines
Thanks Titan for the kind words! Thats why Tim and I have this channel. We want everybody to be better anglers and have more success out on the water. Good luck out there.
Titan Greer ...I agree 100%...very straightforward, down to earth guys who just enjoy fishing, and helping people others with no nonsense, real fishing tips....very cool guys, thanks...wish you the best!
Matt, what a great video. I took your advice and went out with my Gantarel. First cast I had two 6 lb bass chase it all the way to the wall I was standing on. Same spot a couple of casts later one much bigger does the same thing. The light in my head went off. I realized that this was an ambush spot for these bigger fish. So far I have a 5-13, 6-1 and a 6-8 [all post spawn] from the same 10 square foot spot. :-)
Matt, I have watched a LOT of fishing videos (and other instructional videos) which most people can't hold the subject in focus very long. As well, it is tough to watch those through. You sir, on the other hand, are extremely aware of your subjects, stay on track and work very hard to include ALL types of Fisher people. Your attention to detail and delivery is more than just refreshing, it's awesome. The only complaint (snicker) I have is that I have to watch your videos repeatedly due to their high content of terrific details-tips and instructions. VERY well done sir!
Makes total sense. When I bought my first few swimbaits last year I started throwing them at a small lake behind an apartment complex just to get a feel for casting and working the baits. Normally I catch 1-2 pounders in there, but when I started retrieving the big swimbaits I was getting followers in the 4-5 lb range!! Fish I had never even seen before in that pond. I have no idea why I haven't continued this method... now I will. Thanks Matt!!
the best content and tips on youtube... you guys make it so simple and clear that it is amazing how much knowlege you guys can pass on... thanks for sharing. tight lines.
steve favela Dude don't even worry about them, I get weird looks and hear the old cliches "is he trying to catch a shark" when I throw 6-8 inch baits down south.
2 of the best at what they do for their careers and also in helping others. Keep up the good work guys. Matt - let me know if you need anything for the new house ( plumbing wise ). I'll send our buddy " Double Digit " Steve A up with it next time he heads your way. Keep up all the good work and bonus points to Tim for his efforts on his end too. Tight Lines
great idea and (why didn't I think of that) came to mind right off the bat. Matt video Matt and I love how your videos are so much more professional than other. I await your next post. giving them hell from Kansas
That make total sense because I was throwing a 5" swim bait wasn't no 10-12" but a good size bass came up didn't quite hit it but came up to it and went back down to the deep. Awesome !
Been really liking your channel. Very informative and helping me learn new techniques. Bought a s waver and some Huddlestons recently as you and the videos have convinced me to try throwing larger baits. Coming to fish clear lake for 2 weeks late march fingers crossed all houses are safe first then lake is open to fish. Thank you for Sharing all the information you do and keep it up again thank you
I fished a swimbait for a few hours after work yesterday not a huge one but a skinny dipper by reaction innovations fish followed swallowed and spit it before I even could set the hook. But there is nothing better then swimbait fishing when they choke em down you can have some fun!!!! Hope all is well out west from the southeast!
this is outstanding... I have a Castaic trout, it's not 12 inches but it's pretty big; I'm going to do this. Thanks for all the valuable information, my favorite channel by far.
I'm defiantly going to give this a go. in ok right now we have some really warm days followed by a fronts so our fish our starting to pull up then the weather pushes them back. I think this will help me find their depth for any given day. never would have thought about it on my own, and that's why I sub. thanks for the tip, I'll follow up with some results. thanks matt.
Im coming out to Cali brother and will be there til Thanksgiving for work. I'll be working a hour out of Sacramento and would like you have you as a guide. I won't be able to go home for two months. I want to thank you for taking time to reply to some of my other comments on you're videos bro. Appreciate all the help and knowledge.
So funny you said that! Went to,local lake last week, threw a 10in hud and pulled 4 Giants up to look at it and took off. Didn't get any takers but No joke you are so right Matt!
Now it makes sense to me. I read about that same tactic years ago from Manabu Kurita. He throws a Roman Made Mother to draw them in, then pitches out a live bluegill.
I've been thinking of getting a 908 for these huge baits, but I didn't want to buy a set up that I would only use on one or two baits. Is it a good rod for treble hooked baits in the 5-7 oz range like the 250, thumper tail and even an 8" hudd? Or is it overkill for those baits? I've already got two rods for that range, so I'd be selling one of them to get the 908.
Try the Triple Trout, Roman Made Negotiator, Bull Shad 6-8"; Hudd 8" Deluxe, 3:16 Rising Son, Savage Gear Line Thru 8" 3D. All great producers with this method.
Man had no idea things have been that crazy in cali (no tv) glad you guys are ok. Outa do a in depth look at gan craft lures. Been tempted to buy one but the price is a killer without knowing if a floater or slow sink better suits my needs
Thank for sharing. I always saying that, go big or go home. Big bait presentation attract large predators, regardless what you doing or where you doing it. I agree 100%.
Ive had a 8” hudd for about 3 years now and i always never had the balls to throw it. This year as it got warmer i started throwing it and ive had so many followers 5-6-7 lbers. They wont commit but is so sick seeing it happen. Ive only caught a 4.5 on it but i wish to land a biggin soon. I live in Pennsylvania so these fish im seeing are true giants for here.
This is interesting never would have thought to use giant swimbaits here in North Idaho, were have visibility of 20 to 30ft on many of the lakes. Now need to see what's out there on the market.
in California they stock those trout and have those natural hitch...so when they introduced lmb in the reservoirs;naturally it's a smart move to throw those. I'm in the southest and the gizzard shad and skip Jack do get that size, but it isn't in every lake or river/creek.
Hi Matt, great vid. I am from Florida and fish lakes that at best have a couple feet viz like East and West lake Toho, St Johns River, etc. What do you recommend for these situations?
Hey Matt! I've been wondering for awhile if this would be a good way to find some fish! The question I have is for lakes with a bit less visibility. In some of the lakes I fish, the water clarity is < 3 ft. Should I focus more on a big hard bait with some noise (e.g. 12" M.S. Slammer, 3:16 OG Wake, etc...)? Or, should I stick to a big soft bait with some thump like the Osprey 12"?
So Matt I really want to throw big giant swimbaits and get some nice trophy bass! But will this work in the delta? I don't see why it wouldn't work, but what are some suggestions of what baits and colors to throw in the delta? Thanks!
I don't like to use GIANT GIANT baits up here in Wisconsin, but I use big baits if that makes sense. I don't use the 10" hudds and magnums but I still use those 68s and sometimes the 8" hudd. Thank you guys so much for having these great videos! They help more than you could ever imagine. Also, I have a question. How do you feel about the Diawa Ex swimbait rods? They are the same price as the Dobyns Fury. Thanks for making the great video! Keep up the great videos! -Your biggest fan.
Thanks for that tip Matt, I catch a lot of big fish in the spring on my home lake, but after the spawn I can't seem to catch one. Any ideas where they might have gone. Thanks.
Ol Manibu in Japan does this. He's got a 2 1/2ft search swimbait that he uses on Biwaa. Great theory. I couldn't imagine throwing a bait over 2ft long, but if it works it works
matt and tim you guys need more subcribers the way you guys teach people. you guys have the best advice when it comes to fishing for bass.. today I caught my PB! 9.3 lbs on a 12 inch soft swimbait!
Interesting perspective to searching a new lake. Thanks. Just curious I looked at the 12" Osprey at TW and didn't see one colored like the one you are holding. What is that color? I know you weren't suggesting we have to get that exact one but I actually think it would be a nice color to have for catching fish as well as searching.
Altered76 I think that is the magdraft 10" and I think the color is white back shad - though it is called white black shad on TW. Matt please help us out here.
Oh yeah after replaying it again he did say it was the 10" Magdraft. I don't know for sure either but I think you're correct it looks like the color is white back shad.
I'm thinking about trying my luck at throwing some of these huge baits this year, I don't have any equipment for throwing baits this large. What is the cheapest rod that you would recommend for throwing baits like these in the videos?
I caught my pb here in Oklahoma on Sooner lake using a 10.5 River 2 Sea Mr Wiggly it weighed 11.3. a big jump from 5.9. felt like I set the hook into a bick wall then the fight was on. was using 12lb Seaguar AB ProMax and a 7'0 Falcon mh
Hi Matt - thank you for what you and Tim bring to our beautiful sport. African bass also love big swimbaits - please confirm the colour of that Magdraft - is it White Back (Black on TW) Shad? All the best Murray
I caught a five in a "blown out mud hole" throwing a ganteral, I am thirteen and live in nj so the biggest bait I have is seven and a half inch glide bait, are there any good budget big swimbait out there?
The medium size Whopper Plopper in any color is great for attracting the horde. Everything comes to see whats making the noise even the smallest panfish.
Ive Noticed that too. Its so much more effective than a buzz bait in my opinion. I love throwing a plopper in the mornings, when the bass have moved up on bed. Those first few cranks usually result in fish
Hey Matt, great video! I'm in Colorado and this weather doesn't ever make up its mind. The water temp is usually around 38 to 42 degrees. Does this tactic still work even if the water is cold? I've been throwing 8 to 10 inch baits lately and no luck. What am I doing wrong? I've been using hudds, 3:16 rising son and I also have a 10inch magdraft but I have used it yet this year. Any feedback would be great
My only casting rod is a Daiwa Tatula 7'2" heavy action, rated for 3/8 to 1-1/2oz. It can't handle a 10" bait, right? I can't afford to buy a new rod for now. What should I do? I think that rod can handle an 8" MagDraft. Is that a good option or do you think it's too small?
Bigger is better but we agree that rod can't do it. If 8" is the biggest you can throw, throw that. The concept still works you just won't pull them from quite as far.
Thanks! How about a 9" Slammer? It's bigger and because of the sound I think it can pull them away from far away... I've never bought a 9" Slammer because of the price and specially because at that price I'll have to pay customs taxes as it reaches my country. Those taxes might be almost as much as the lure... I'll try to find some european big swimbaits as I don't have to pay custom taxes for that.
TacticalBassin which bait do you think is the best for this technique from all these: Savage Gear Shine Glide 7", Jackall Gantarel, Spro BBZ-1 Rat 50, 9" MS Slammer, S-Waver 200 or 8" MagDraft? The Shine Glide and Gantarel are a little shorter, but they are taller, so they may have more visibility...
TacticalBassin I think I found a good bait for me: the 8" Trash Fish! With a 10/0 Owner Beast hook it will not be too heavy. If I remove the top of the tail fin it will have a wider tail kick and will be better at attracting fish!
you don't always see guides exploiting information like yourself, that's why I love this channel... it's more fun when everybody is catching fish. humbleness and honesty shall reward you with big fish, tight lines

I think it is less that but showing basic knowledge and other little things. You make it sound like he exploiting their lake
Hats off to Tim for the job he does
#ThinBlueLine
He's a game warden
2lb bass attacking a 12in bait.
Bass: "You swam in the wrong neighborhood!"
LOL! Bass are ultimate predators and couldn't care less about size.
me catching a 4 inch bass on a 10 inch worm what is wrong in that situation???
That megabass What color is that thank you
Dude it's so INTIMIDATING to throw those big swimbaits, but you make some great points. Definitely gives me some more confidence with them.
Matt, what a great video. I took your advice and went out with my Gantarel. First cast I had two 6 lb bass chase it all the way to the wall I was standing on. Great info on the power of using big baits, like I've said before you guys are one of the best on youtube. Stay safe during this crazy weather.
Makes sense, but I can imagine the looks I'm going to get throwing a foot long bait into a small lake lol , I'm still going to try it
and the looks will get even better if you catch a 10 out of there :P
steve favela Dude don't even worry about them, I get weird looks and hear the old cliches "is he trying to catch a shark" when I throw 6-8 inch baits down south.
hunter PRO1 true
Dont worry about others. You are there to fish and have a good time. Good luck!
Imagine the looks you'll get when you pull a hog out of that spot on a lure that draws anything that anyone else would use there...

I have seen Pros like Zalzain also talk about throwing these big baits in practice for this same reason. Def an awesome tip for clear water lakes.
Keith Bartlett lolll same here
Thanks Guys! It really is a great technique to locate big fish.
makes perfect sense, seen it a lot with river smallies and musky flies, the smallies tend to crush the musky fly for some reason
That make total sense because I was throwing a 5" swim bait wasn't no 10-12" but a good size bass came up didn't quite hit it but came up to it and went back down to the deep. Awesome !
Great information, Matt! This'll give me a great new way to approach the waters I'll be fishing this year--familiar and unfamiliar. Thanks!
awesome explanation Matt! No one tells it like you do lol
Is this applicable in ponds?
Been really liking your channel. Very informative and helping me learn new techniques. At least 4-6lbers too. Soon enough I'll get um!
Top of hopland pass! Nice video, see you out there this spring
Yeah buddy!
Another great vid Matt! Love your stuff because you tell it how it is! Keep up the great work 👍
Now it makes sense to me. I read about that same tactic years ago from Manabu Kurita. He throws a Roman Made Mother to draw them in, then pitches out a live bluegill.
It works like a charm Brother
sounds like cheating... but he has the world record tho so , lol
my favorite search swimbait is the Roman made mother. it's an over grown glide bait. I love it.
I've been thinking of getting a 908 for these huge baits, but I didn't want to buy a set up that I would only use on one or two baits. So, what would be one of your best follow up baits for this method Matt?
Try the Triple Trout, Roman Made Negotiator, Bull Shad 6-8"; Hudd 8" Deluxe, 3:16 Rising Son, Savage Gear Line Thru 8" 3D. All great producers with this method.
All the baits listed below will work and i would also throw a subtle finesse bait like a senko.
this is such a great tip!!!!! thanks for everything keep up the good work Matt and can't wait for the next video.
Thanks Ted! Tim and I appreciate the support
Man had no idea things have been that crazy in cali (no tv) glad you guys are ok. Outa do a in depth look at gan craft lures. Been tempted to buy one but the price is a killer without knowing if a floater or slow sink better suits my needs
Would you recommend doing this for Smallmouth lakes?
Best channel on RUclips
Truly an amazing video, never thought of it this way
Thank for sharing. I always saying that, go big or go home. Big bait presentation attract large predators, regardless what you doing or where you doing it. I agree 100%.

Matt that was awesome video for sure.... Man I am going to try this for sure. WOW again thank you so much for that tip...
Thanks Shaun!
Would this work for smallmouth with like an 8 incher? and another question is what swimbait tactics are relevant in Minnesota/Wisconsin?
welcome back to tacticalbassin lol just sounds funny for some reason P.S. great vid keep it up brotha
Matt, what are the best conditions to do this search? Sunny and no wind? thanks a lot!! awesome video as usual...
Hey Matt! I've been wondering for awhile if this would be a good way to find some fish! The question I have is for lakes with a bit less visibility. I want to book a few days with you this spring dude.
instead of getting a 10 or a12 inch bait could I get the osprey in 9 inch . it's still a large bait but not as heavy.
What trebles would you recommend for the Osprey 10 inch?
Hey mr. Matt I was wondering if I could use an s waver 168s warden color to help draw the lunkers would this bait be good to use also??
Could you give some tips for finding big bass in dirty, shallow water. I'm stuggling to get big fish and I know Okeechobee has them.
Would you apply this same logic to a primarily smallmouth fishery?
I Rod JR swim, or Dobyn's Fury 795 SB? For the Hudd 68, S-waver, biwaa S-trout.
So Matt I really want to throw big giant swimbaits and get some nice trophy bass! But will this work in the delta? I don't see why it wouldn't work, but what are some suggestions of what baits and colors to throw in the delta? Thanks!
what bait or baits should i throw with my 7ft medium fast action with a 6.2:1 gear ratio
Thanks.
Thanks Bro! I can't Wait 😎💙🎣
Great video! I never thought about that!
Hey Guys, do you still swear by and use this system? Any different current baits? Thanks
Awesome totally going to give it a try
thanks for the explanations
Which Dobyns rod do you recommend for a deps 250?
Interesting perspective to searching a new lake. Thanks. Just curious I looked at the 12" Osprey at TW and didn't see one colored like the one you are holding. What is that color? I know you weren't suggesting we have to get that exact one but I actually think it would be a nice color to have for catching fish as well as searching.
Altered76 I was wondering the same exact thing!
Where I live that's a Muskie bait but I have had bass come up to check out a Muskie lure. They will come looking.
Would a 10” hud rof5 work for this?
I caught my pb here in Oklahoma on Sooner lake using a 10.5 River 2 Sea Mr Wiggly it weighed 11.3. a big jump from 5.9. felt like I set the hook into a bick wall then the fight was on. was using 12lb Seaguar AB ProMax and a 7'0 Falcon mh
Hi Matt - thank you for what you and Tim bring to our beautiful sport. African bass also love big swimbaits - please confirm the colour of that Magdraft - is it White Back (Black on TW) Shad? All the best Murray
What bait would you use to find fish in a lake with only about a foot a visibility?
I caught a five in a "blown out mud hole" throwing a ganteral, I am thirteen and live in nj so the biggest bait I have is seven and a half inch glide bait, are there any good budget big swimbait out there?
What should I do if I can't afford a Rod and throw a big bait should I troll the bait?
Matt, curious what other states you have a lot of experience fishing in?
Awesome Video. I couldn't agree with you more.
Matt would you do this on a Sunny day or Cloudy day? What would make the difference?
where I live there's a lot of grass in the spring and summer not a great swimbait area but thanks for the tips
Clear Lake is the same way. Look into some weedless swimbaits. This one is a killer out here in the grass bit.ly/2ixaEw2
cool thanks
An oldie but a goody!
Matt great video looks like you're coming back from Indian Valley Reservoir anyways good job on the video
Those first few cranks usually result in fish
try the 190 size you will notice a difference
Matt do you like the Dobyns 7'9" med hvy swimbait as a good rod to start swim baiting the other bait i want to throw is a MS Slammer i just picked up.
Fury line
Does this apply to Smalliez?
Good one.
Awesome! Keep em coming.
That makes so much sense! Thank you
Hey Matt, great video! Any feedback would be great
Angling The970 .
That draw power!!!!
It works really well!
Do you guys sell tactical bassin sweatshirts/shirts? I want one of those they're sick
Man just when I was going to go to bed 🙄 haha
LOL!
Do you like lake Sonoma Matt and is that where you were that day
