  • Just documenting the diagnosis and repair of my Deluxe Stratocasters Dimarzio DP-161 bridge pickup sounding weak and thin. Not knowing at the beginning of the video I soon discover that the humbucker pickup has one coil almost open circuit and I am surprised I that I got any output at all.
Removing the pickup was a straight forward operation and upon closer inspection the pickup coil is open circuit withing the winding's.
I also tightened the output jack as it was loose.
I have ordered the exact same pickup and will make a part two video as I complete the repair process.
As for the old pickup, I will unwind the faulty coil and attempt to repair it.
    All the best.

Good job troubleshooting to pinpoint the failure of the pickup. If you have extra screws I would replace them and soak the screws that are starting to rust in vinegar to remove the rust then coat with WD-40 or an equivalent.

did you change the pot for the humbucker to a 500k? I know it will make it thin as hell

I've fucked up my bridge pickup and have no knowledge and money to repair or replace. I think switching 2nd from top makes me use only middle and neck pickups and both 2 tone controls, can I still use my guitar that way? It's a strat too, sorry I don't have an amp yet.
