Hi Ant, your enthusiasm for history is contagious! I was at my local church yesterday, 12th century. There was a history weekend of some of the graves. Some of the graves were numbered which you went to then read all about the person buried there. The church has held two events so far and hopefully will do more. Wonderful to keep local history alive. Keep your videos coming they are really interesting .

Thanks a lot Mike. Most definitely mate, these places hold so much history. The feelings and echos of the past can be felt after all those years. Thanks for watching mate
I remember walking to Jenkin Chapel with my Mother for an Easter service in the 1970s. The Chapel like Forest Chapel above Wildboarclough was built so that farmers didn't have to make a long trek over rough un tarmaced country lanes to their nearest place of worship which could be a fair trek. Jenkin Chapel was built by a local farmer but it isn't on a Cross Roads. I do know of a tale from the late 1980s told to me by a local farming family. LandRover test and devolop their new engines and vehicles in the Peak District, they load them with weights and often tow a heavily loaded trailer and in the 1980s they would do this Day and Night . The climb from Jenkin Chapel to Pym Chair is a very stiff climb and in the 1980s it was on LandRovers test route. One night, early in the morning one of the LandRover test drivers was climbing the hill from the Chapel to Pym Chair when a man covered in blood and carrying a knife ran out into the road in front of him. Apparently it spooked the driver who was somewhat shaken and the tale was told as far away as Kettleshulme where my sister lived. Also around this time an article appeared in the Macclesfield Express about Dark Arts being practiced in this area. I think it was written by a retired vicar ? You could possibly find it in the archives at Macclesfield library if you searched late 80s early 90s editions. Amongst the gravestones you were looking at is one that has only the word "HERE" written on it, the story is that this was as much as the deceased person could afford in terms of the services of the stone mason who carved the gravestone. A Bollington fireman, long gone from this world now told my brother a tale of answering a call to a farm near Jenkin Chapel where a child was shackled to a table like a dog, seems sinister by todays standards but in a 1950s Peak District it would be the farmers version of a play pen to keep the child from coming to harm while the grown ups tended the animals and ran the farm. One farmer from those parts used to say to folks in Macclesfield, "Dust Thow Want A Dowter ?" Times were hard and he only wanted boys who could work the farm, daughters were no good to him. Bear in mind this is fairly recent times 1950s 60s not the 17 or 18 hundreds. The League of Gentlemens portrayal of the Peak District is too near to reality hence we don't watch it.

That video was so interesting and informative Ant. The story of the single footprint certainly remains a mystery and makes me think did the lady stumble ac ross his body or was she involved....but why a single footprint and was it a footprint after all? Jenkin Chapel is a beautiful little Chapel and so nicely kept neat and tidy complete with flowers. Did you manage to get up into the gallery? Maybe there are more Turner's buried in that graveyard. So many of these chapels are locked now, so I know that thrill you felt when you found it unlocked! Lovely bit of urban legend/folklore & I wonder if there's a crucial piece of information waiting to be uncovered about the poor man's untimely death.....
i's sure there will be Diane. those hills tell stories that would make your toes curl! I was very lucky to get in the chapel as it's normally closed. opened around easter time and xmas I believe :)
That old chapel is kinda creepy. What's strange is that there is no cross on top of it, you would think there would be. Same with the inside, except for the small cross inside you would think there would be bigger cross as well. It's kind spooky seeing the old cemetery right next to the chapel, I'm sure it's the way most churches are in the UK. One day I'm gonna go to the UK and will probably get totally creeped out walking around some of these old places. Great video Anthony! Curious, where do you stay at?
Thanks a lot Paul and great observation. No crosses! I really didn't notice that at the time. Pretty odd! The location in this video is only 20 minutes from my house so really lucky to film on my doorstep really. There is however places to stay around that area if people wanted to visit. Holiday homes, B&B etc. Thanks for tuning in buddy! take care :)

@@daftmonkey7296 I don't know, he was known locally n the grave was walking distance across fields from macclesfield , but I was a kid so were talking over 40 yrs ago, but the grave was on a grass bank alone with a plaque so I'm sure it's probly still there, maybe Gawsworth or Bollington, would be worth researching

@@daftmonkey7296 any news on a new video ant 🤣🤣🤣
@@paulmurphy2144 haha! I’ve got a very long list to get through and a trip to Spain first and foremost 😂
@@daftmonkey7296 I was gonna say ant lol your jollies need to be enjoyed first
That video was so interesting and informative Ant. Once again Ant you've smashed this video. I really appreciate how much research you must do and expenses paid to visit these places and of course time to film and edit and upload. Thank you so much. Look forward to your next video. Xx
that's such a lovely comment Gaynor and thank you so much for taking the time out to watch the video. Sadly I couldn't get in the gallery as it was padlocked up... I wish I could have haha!

Are you a vlogger?
I can't believe it. You have so much passion. You should be a documentary filmmaker.
That’s so kind of you. Yes, I try and intertwine vlogging and documentaries together so to speak. Reviving the history and memories good or bad is what means the most. So the stories don’t get forgotten
@@daftmonkey7296 You're doing an amazing job 👍

So many of these chapels are locked now, so I know that thrill you felt when you found it unlocked! Lovely bit of urban legend/folklore & I wonder if there's a crucial piece of information waiting to be uncovered about the poor man's untimely death.....
i's sure there will be Diane. those hills tell stories that would make your toes curl! I was very lucky to get in the chapel as it's normally closed. opened around easter time and xmas I believe :)
Brill Ant, very creepy place with many more tales to tell no doubt x
I would imagine it hold many stories Dotty. Thanks for watching :)
Such a beautiful chapel
It sure is Lysa! Thanks for watching 👍🏼
I was born in macclesfield although I haven't lived there since I was 19 very interesting as I've never heard of John turner there's a grave just outside macclesfield which we called maggoty Johnson when we were kids, we were all scared of it ha
oooh ! is there any information online about him Cheryl!?
@@daftmonkey7296 I don't know, he was known locally n the grave was walking distance across fields from macclesfield , but I was a kid so were talking over 40 yrs ago, but the grave was on a grass bank alone with a plaque so I'm sure it's probly still there, maybe Gawsworth or Bollington, would be worth researching
@@cherylwest9538 I’ve just done some digging and found it Cheryl! Looks incredible. I’ve put it on my explore list! Can’t wait to film it. Thank you 🙏🏼
