I would really like to know the answer, too! The only thing i can think of is this song's GREATNESS JUST WASN'T APPRECIATED! My two younger sisters listened to it on their Transistor Radio's. I immediately REALLY liked this song! I felt the same way about the Beach Boy's "Don't WORRY Baby" I still love both of these songs!
To mar Rosenberg, it was a great pleasure to meet you and work with you at Kaiser permanent thing. He was a great boss and never turned his back on. Anybody God bless you so my brother.
As soon as the song starts I’m right back in my early teens, sitting in the playground we hung out in, with my Emerson transitory radio and thinking what could be better. Great days I’ll never forget and memories cherished forever.
What memories of my youth!! As a young teen boy running thru my neighborhood streets north of Pittsburgh, this song was massive. It spoke to the young "love fever" roaring through my veins. I was in puppy love & those lyrics were piercing to me. Young love can be so powerful and overwhelming! The feelings it brings back are Amazing! I'll never feel those 14 yr old incredibly hot sensitivities again😢. Although I'd give anything to revisit those days & overpowering feelings. That song nails it for me.
I was a typical 15 year old boy and had my first girlfriend. This song was exactly how I felt at this age. Thinking that "I" was the only boy that felt this way ! What a flashback ! Thanks !
june 30th ist summer party at 13 years young, dancing with PEGGY POTTS to this great oldie at FOUNTAIN AVE BROOKLYN NY.LIFE WAS SO MUCH EASIER,MORE INNOCENT----EVEN AS I 2STEPPED WITH A CUTE YOUNG LADY!!! IT WAS SUSAN PRETRARAS party at her uncles house at the OLDE MILL section of BROOKLYN NY.Wonderful memories of my youth!!!! Also slow danced with her to YOU BELONG TO ME----duprees as well as TIILL THEN and other great tunes of the time.Wish all who were there that night the BEST!!!
As the dj for our high school hops, I played this song every week. The ticking clock reminded everyone there that they had just two songs to finish their moves. The last song was always Jesse Belvin's "Good Night, My Love". What a combination to end the evening.
I was and I did. Kids no longer know how to enjoy the closeness of that someone special on the dancefloor. It was a magical time that is lost to history. I was blessed to enjoy it.
What I remember was that I was into oldies (50s, early 60s) back in 1968. Only one other guy in my high school would admit, like me, that he preferred oldies over the Beatles or The Rolling Stoners. We could not connect with these types of group's lifestyles. I had absolutely no interest in Woodstock as another example. I am still trapped back in time with no hope of escape. I bought Image of a Girl back in 1968 at a McCrory's as I could not find it on the Eldo label. Later that same year I found the original (new) at Dumont Records in Paterson N.J. for 89 cents.
Love this song. First time I heard it was so long ago, then went away from listening to 45's. Then went back and found this one again. The label is different though, ours is Pink.
Agreed on those three. I'll add Melody to an unknown girl by the Unknowns, Our Winter Love by Bill Purcell, and Make the night a little longer by the Palisades.
LA MEJOR MUSICA DE NOSTALGIA Y EMOCIONES....GRACIAS A ESAS CANCIONES Y EN ESPECIAL A THE SAFARIS CON IMAGE of A GIRL ...HERMOSA MELODIA .... ME HUBIERA GUSTADO ESCUCHARLA Y VIVIRLA EN SU EPOCA. MERCI.B.
A bit of trivia- The words "Image Of A Girl" are not sung at all-the words sung are "Image of The Girl"! Anyway, Jimmy Stephens had one the most beautiful voices I have ever heard..
The same Safaris did a surf tune titled "Kick Out" on the Valiant Label Which is reminiscent of "Wipeout" but I don't recall them doing a version of "Wipeout". I think you made a mistake
Hello Everyone I'm Kurt Snyder , And I was With Bette Midler "' And Marvin Rosenburg ! And I love The Great Amy Slattery From England .... Beatle Girl On You Tube ,,,, copyright 2017...
how in the world this song did not make it to number one?

Talk about a song that takes you way back to a more melodic time
I sit in my 57 Chevy four-door hardtop time machine man I get away from all this BS I'm glad I kept her God bless the 50s
That is so wonderful. Best times of America and when the most beautiful cars were ever made.

Agreed 100%. Dig that clock's tick tock constant playing throughout the song.
It's interesting that "Good Timin" by Jimmy Jones had a similar theme.
Gives me chills, man
Wow this song is amazing
+Wesley Hardin - Yes! :-)
Are these the same Safaris that do "Wipe Out"...? because "Wipe Out" has no lyrics lol
+sweetlife031 The one with the song Wipeout is The Surfaris
@@juanfranciscoaltamirano1999 Right, that's the SURFARIS. The two groups' names are easily confused.
Played on the tv drama Ridley Road last night!

Sheldon Breier and Richard Clasky both died in 1999. Two many young singers of our past have died. Always liked this song.

Didn't all of us, at one time, have an image of that special girl?
Reminds me of when in The Army before going tonKorea.
its moral, not the ungodly music, good song
I always wondered why they didn't do more vocal songs.
All I need is a girl to snuggle up to and slow-dance with.

Nothing personal but the era of PP&M could have stalled a bit.
