Love the olive updates. I find these pruning decisions fascinating - mostly 'cause I can't see what's the best choice, and because I have the same indecisions to make on my own trees. Even though I don't have olives, their branch structure is similar to many deciduous trees. I love your clump style too. I think you'll have a lot of fun with it.
For tree number one, I would pick for the front, exactly where you comment "nothing there I don't think, at 9:48. No idea about tree two, or three. The clump bonsai is very nice.
Interesting thanks, I purchased a reduced olive last year repotted and have left it grow. Next year I plan to cut it back as it has some nice movement in the trunk. Good to see your ones do well. Take care
15:03 how about it being a back branch? Then coming out of inside of the curve wouldn't be so obvious and I think there's still a nice rootbase and movement in the trunk. It's hard to judge just from a video, though. And it'd also have to backbud a lot but from watching Sam's videos that doesn't seem to be an issue with olives (in his climate, that is).
I think I showed a couple of your pictures on My Bonsai for Breakfast Ep 3. I get quite a lot sent in so I often just pick a few. I am probably going to do my next set in a couple of weeks time.
Considering how hard they were cut back there aren´t that many new branches. Mine are the same this year (even in Spain). Something is wrong this year (no idea what).
Great on pizza and they make great bonsai!!
So true Nigel - we are finally getting summer today with the temps hitting 30C. Unfortunately temps then dip back down to low twenties again :(
I don't know where you find all these obscure, old movie and TV clips, but they are sure funny!
It is amazing what is available if you look around :)
Love Olives, Olive trees and most notably Oliver, my son. ❤ Thanks Xavier. Enjoyed as always 😍😘 Cheers 🙋♀️
Can you airlayer Oliver :)
@@XaviersBonsaiRetreat 😂 😂😂 no way he would agree on that.

I think I have said this before Sue - we all face the same problem :)

I shall go back and have a look Mary - thanks :)
You are right - it is easier to see when you look back - thanks :)
14:05 I don’t know what your vision is for a canopy, but if you’re thinking Umbrella-ish, I believe that branch can stay.
Cheers - I shall keep a copy of this for future reference.

That sounds good - love to hear how you get on with it in 2025 :)

Enjoy your videos.
I just appreciate you taking the time to watch them in this chaotic world we live in :)

Excellent point and something I will have to remember. Cheers
Waiting for my updated azalea image to be shown 😀

@@XaviersBonsaiRetreat yes, thanks for that 😀. I will drop others too later. Bonsai forever.
My vote for the front is at around 9:52-9:53.
I shall go and have a look - thanks :)

Interesting - I was a little surprised how little growth there was.
What kind of olive is it. I have several Russian olives I collected.
Hi Sharon, it is a European Olive...if that helps
👍👌🙂
Thanks bruce - always around to keep me positive :)
The only comment I will make CUT IT OFF, that side branch has to go my friend.
I know - I remain in denial :)
