Fun Fact: I designed 6 Graphics for regular sized MoVall Pedals, but the Pedals unfortunately never got released, as the company was shut down. (And now somehow restarted). I also moved the „o“ up in the Logo as it was on the same Baseline as the other letters which made it look like a dot. Part of my payment were 6 of their mini pedals which happened to be my first guitar pedals (not counting the two I had and sold 20 years ago). I still think that they are great value for their money!
Today I received the Phoenix Wings Tremelo and the Azur Silver Fuzz Face. The Phoenix is amazing and so versatile a new favourite for modulation. I have bought most of the cheap online pedals and I agree with you on most. Thanks for the video.
thank you Ryan for doing the dirty work on the cheap pedals....it helps a cheap player like me get the effects that i want and not effects that i just spend money on...im a late bloomer watching your videos and it helps me be frugal with cheap effects...
Hey Ryan (or anyone who knows), are there any Afford-a-board Tonebender style fuzzes out there? Tonebender style pedals are rather expensive, so an affordable alternative would be amazing
Am I the only one who liked the Plexi Troll? Sounded pretty good to me. Also, fwiw, on Amazon UK these pedals are listed as, for example, "Movall by Caline MP-302 Plexi Troll".
These seem to be the Caline Azor line just recased and rebranded. The Crazy Screamer seems to be the Azor AP-315 green overdrive, the Baltic Beast is the AP-308 blue overdrive, which is either a Timmy or BB preamp type, judging by the bass and treble controls (I'm guessing it's a Timmy, since it's the same sky blue color as the Caline Pure Sky, but it sounds more like a TS, which the BB preamp and Orange Burst are, except with bass and treble, instead of a single tone), and the Two Yetis is the AP-316 white Leon overdrive, which is an OCD type. They say the AP-315/Crazy Screamer is a TS, but it's way too bright and doesn't have the mid hump of a TS. All the OCD clones I've tried were really fuzzy and bassy on the LP setting, the Joyo, the Mosky, and the Azor. The Mosky and the ENO were a less so than the other two. And, the HP setting on the Azor is very low gain, even when dimed, and seems more of a clean boost.
Hey Ryan, about the Octopuzz, you said at (47:27) it could be fun for your "Djent sticks", did I hear that right? Would it be great for Djent style playing?
I was under the impression that movall had stopped making these a while back (and that they were in fact the same circuits as Tone City). I have the Minatour - and used it solidly on my board as my go-to drive for about 18 months. Good pedal.
NOT ENOUGH SIMPLE 1 TRANSISTOR *DALLAS ARBITER RANGEMASTER* CLONES😢 It's the pedal with the least parts so would seem like a 'cheap pedals' manufacture favorite. The best one for a good price is GMR Spares - video demo with link to purchase, *GMR BC Dallas Hand Wired Treble Boost Pedal* Loved the Screaming Rat 17:10 and the Octopuzz. Great paint gloss, great colors, and rounded edges. The Mino-Taur sounded horrible with the dry signal blended in equally audible.
Hi, Ryan, I think that in a "afford-a-board" a decent noise gate will be essential. Shouldn't this be the solution for pedals like this klonish Minotaur? The pedal sounded good, besides the hiss. Thanks!
I bought the same Baritone Cabronita (in no small part due to this channel) and I love seeing it demoed with all sorts of gear. Baritones lie in a somewhat unique frequency range so it's nice seeing how various gear sounds with mine. Please demo with the Baritone more often! I'd love to see them more common in the guitar community.
I’m not a big Fuzz user, tried a few over last few years so have a bit of experience, you mentioned that the Octopuzz has a lot of high-end (Treble) available and bright, from what I’ve heard about fuzz on many channels and my experience when you put it into a mix either live or recording the guitar can end up getting lost in the mix once you introduce, bass, drums, vocals, synths etc due to the low-end bass frequencies swallowing up the guitar frequencies, so having a big amount of high-end available I would think is a good thing to make the guitar stand out again and be more prominent in the overall mix. I’m sure I could be wrong so please tell me if I’m talking out of my arse! Thanks Ryan spending your time to demo all these pedals and giving your honest opinions. I’ve got one of the Minotaur (Klon) pedals, mine is silent and has absolutely no hiss or interference, so reckon you were just unlucky and maybe got sent a dodgy one, I can’t complain about the Minotaur it does the clean boost and low gain thing well and suits my guitar style, cost me £15.04 brand new and delivered to the UK, a bargain really cos a pack of rolling tobacco cost me more than that which last me 4-5 days!! So to get a decent sounding pedal which is well manufactured and sturdy for the price, if it broke after a month of use it’s cheap enough to replace and throw away, had it for about 4 months and it’s still going strong still works fine, the pots and foot switch are all intact and still work fine.
I enjoy your videos very much because you spend a lot of time on each sound. I want to build a pedal board with 8 mini pedals. What size or model would you recommend? Thanks so much for all the work you put into these great videos. Leftystrummer
These are all just rebranded Azor pedals, if you open them they have Azor boards in them. They even use the same model numbers and just change the A to an M, so AP-308 becomes MP-308, AP-320 becomes MP-320, etc
i need all your hi gain pedal , distorsion overdrive and fuzz pedals ! (in terminator 2 style voice) , loving it ! any manufactore website where i can contact them ? =
I have full sets of the 2 original Movall series. 12 pedals total, some have been rebranded or reworked, and some seem to just be totally absent. Cool to see the new models!
I did a bit of digging for fun, it looks like MoVall went under and was purchased by Caline who is putting out these pedals which seem to be entirely different circuits, except maybe the Minotaur. The Mermaid, Van Golem and the Octopuzz is also in my set, but mine are clearly different. I like my Mermaid and Van Golem better, but the old Octopuzz is really terrible.
@@DioHenda the ones I have are super rare now and the company and brand were sold off and they've been completely redesigned, so unless you have a lead on some original zinc enclosures, I don't think my review would be relevant Having said that, I've yet to find many pedals that aren't suitable for gigging. In fact, I generally prefer cheaper pedals for gigging because they're easier to replace if something happens to them, and I've been known to pick up 2 cheaps over an expensive so that I can just swap them out if they die on tour
Heavy Thunder is really.... ehhh... especially with how bright it is and no treble control. I do like the crazy screamer though, are there any other pedals with that sound? Maybe with more controls?
Got my Octapuzz in yesterday. I do dig it as much as Ryan seems to. Curiously it came with Velcro and rubber pieces that have a rounded top and slight narrowing at the other end, kind of Azor shaped.
The affordable china pedals always have the silliest names 😂 i always have to laugh , Mosky is usually my go-to for top quality afford-a-stomps although there are plenty of heavy hitters in the ring
That Octopuzz definitely caught my attention; I've recently discovered octave fuzzes watching videos about boutique octave fuzzes. Then I found out about the Danelectro French Toast; an affordable octave pedal that's apparently a clone of the old FOXX Tone Machine, and I snapped one up (was $40, now around $60). Awesome sound... some of it like what you played here, but some even more intense- when you flip its octave switch on. That got me curious- I looked to see if anyone else had a video with this pedal, and saw a bunch from about 5 years ago- then I noticed the pedal looked different- It had a "Crazy" switch that apparently engaged the octave effect.
ps. I think the Danelectro French Toast might be worth an affordaboard look... interesting feature- when you turn the octave on, it's like it engages a noise gate, like the Cuvave
A side by side of the TS-9 and a RAT shows that they are very similar, just the RAT is higher gain. A "Crazy Screamer" sounds to me like a High Gain version of a Tube Screamer. It may simply be a High Gain No Blend TS-9, which is why it sounds RAT like.
I will gladly take that mermaid chorus off your hands Ryan. (It feels weird saying your name like I know you, but I guess since I've been subscribed for over a year it's okay? Maybe...?)
I always thought the HP and LP on the OCD clones stood for High Pass and Low Pass, but I've never actually owned one, and I've been way too lazy to look it up.
