We're looking at more water tanks after we sort out the dams & get a tractor. Think these will be closer to the house though than the existing ones. Cheers mate.
Thanks David. The explanation of the proposed works should give folks some food for thought as well. Just need to go down & shoot it. Hopefully B & I will get to it this weekend. Cheers mate.
I've been watching for years on your other channel. I LOVE IT You are living my dream. I don't know what the weather is like where you are Rob. Are the smaller ponds deep enough to retain enough water through out your summers?
Hey Rogè. Glad you're enjoying this channel as well. 😁 They didn't run dry in the last drought that lasted for a few years according to the old owners & areal photography we found on the state government website. They said they ran 10 head of cattle + irrigated some of the paster the whole time. Time will tell though to see if they will hold water through a long dry spell.
I love your QLD falls ...I agree with Mrs "B".😆 Could use shipping container doors for your culverts. I've seen it on a property over a creek to drive over.
🤣B did say something after she watched the video.🤣 There's a "damp" spot down the back where the doors might do the trick. Mors as a food & bike bridge. Cheers Anna & have a top one.
Hopefully all this rain has washed all the cane toad tadpoles down stream to some other poor bugger haha. Hopefully the rain goes away soon for you bud. Seeya Rob
🤣 I think most are now out at sea with the amount of water that passed through here mate. Looks like the heavy rains they were predicting for this weekend have been down graded luckily.
Watching these videos about all of the rain and flooding you're experiencing makes me longing for spring. I'm tired of of the winter. The spring months here are often full of rains and flooding like what you are dealing with. It is 16°F/-9°C here where I live in Oklahoma. It is actually 10 degrees warmer than where it has been but thankfully the sun is out today which will make it feel more comfortable. Hopefully you can get that damn dam fixed soon!
Not sure I could handle that sort of climate Jonathan. I start looking for a flanno (long sleeve flannelette shirt) to put on once the temp drops below 20C / 68F. 😅 Cheers & have a top one mate.
You almost make me miss the monsoons I grew up with.... almost.😊 Our place used to flood like that every heavy rain. There was a storm water drain that fed down, through our place, and into the swamp/lagoon. Always an interesting thing to go watch. Thank you!❤
Am glad you enjoyed the video CR. I like the rain itself, just looking forward to having the dams fixed so we don't need to stress every time a storm hits. Cheers & all the best.
It's only a few days a year according to the neighbour. This summer has had a few more heavier storms than normal from what a few locals I've spoken too have said.
Yes we had a beautiful storm a couple of days ago. But super hot a muggy since. If you are on the road i think you are, the courseway can get way way higher. It probly would have gone down by now. Please take care. Also have supplies on hand.
We at Kullogum if that helps. 😉 The highest we've seen it is just over 1.5m. Looking at debris in the bush around it the crossing it has easily gone a meter higher than that again in the past. Cheers Amanda.
I'm not far south of you and got some of that rain, perhaps 80 mm, had to get out at 5 am to hand cut a swale to stop our driveway eroding. Got the position and run just right so the drive has been fine since. Glad I don't have the submerged drive way that you have to deal with! We just have an ephemeral creek on one corner of the property that has a culvert taking it to the neighbor's lake sized dam.
Nice save Daniel. I think we'll end up with a few culverts under the driveway here. The combined flow from the paddock behind the stock yard & the other flow from the neighbours is too much for what's there. What size block are you on? Cheers.
@@BitsOutTheBackFarm We are on only 22 acres but there are no restrictive vegetation zones over the bulk of it and about 5 acres is zoned perennial horticulture. Should be enough to have a fair bit of self sufficiency and perhaps generate some extra income. Was a former Tahitian Lime orchard. I may have a consulting contract for you later in the year if you are interested, perhaps in concert with Hoocho if you guys are interested. Will be in touch directly when we are over the move, which as you know involves a cascade of adaptations and WTF scenarios when you find out the real condition of things. 😁
Was hoping to get that posted sooner but a few spanners have been thrown in the works over the past few weeks. Hope to film it tomorrow or on the weekend Davey. Hope all's well with you mate.
We don't mind being flooded in. We can both still work & it has only been for 36 hours at the most so far. It helps that we're near the top of the system so the water falls fairly fast.
@lorrainerichardson3280 To be fair, crocs and sharks will eat you, a Dingo too if you're small or weak. But generally the wildlife will just kill you, and leave the ants and bugs to clean up the mess. Wouldn't live anywhere else.
That's one bonus.👍 We'll be using most of the green as added organic matter for the paddocks where we can. They need all the organic matter they can get at this point.
Hey Ron. We got one like this, www.bunnings.com.au/delf-trade-30-x-165-x-30mm-satin-chrome-foot-operated-door-stop_p4131024 It does the job & worked out to be fairly cheap. Cheers mate.
The erosion has unearthed previous repair jobs so we're thinking historical repairs were conveniently left out. 😉 We knew that they needed proper spillways & some attention when looking at the place originally. I think they thought we where just tree changers looking for a farm & that we didn't know what we were looking at. There where a few things we quizzed them on that they played dumb or didn't really give us straight answers on. 😉 I suppose I understand, they just wanted a sale so they could move & start a new life.
and they probably thought to themselves that there wouldnt be a BIG rain event for a good 5 years or more. so by then they be thinking you and Bianca well and truly settled into the property@@BitsOutTheBackFarm
Three top ones have been here 10+ years but have had many repairs done to where the water spills over by the look of it. Many buried tyres & large rocks are slowly being un earthed & they desperately need dedicated spillways installed on all 3. The large one is only a few years old & has failed twice while the old owners lived here. It's in the process of failing again unfortunately.
Pretty much. We found some old areal photos from the state government website that shows bad erosion on the sides of the newer large dam so I'd say that one was built to counter that.
Hopefully, the water will recede quickly and you will have some better weather soon.
Had a bit of a dry week but are expecting some decent falls this weekend. Should be all good though.
I am glad the predicted hot dry summer has eventuated. We have also had a heap of rain here in the last few weeks and containing as much as we can.
We're looking at more water tanks after we sort out the dams & get a tractor. Think these will be closer to the house though than the existing ones.

best vid so far guys, it graphically shows the problems you are dealing with,.

Might need to build a bridge for B mate😮
It was down enough for her return. She did say that she may need to commandeer the ute though on work days if we get more rain. 😒
Cheers Devvyn.

I'm glad your house is uphill! That's a lot of water
Same here Nicole. They said the whole front paddock has flooded in the bad 100 year floods but the house is well & truly high & dry.

Just keep safe you two, hopefully this bad weather will finish up soon.
A bit more coming this weekend but not as bas as others further north from here.
Cheers JGA.
Spot of weather, mate. I'm getting bored of it now in Brisvagus as well. Very happy to say, none in the house!
Looks like we may have dodged the low after the cyclone as well Andy. 🤞
Hope all's well after your little scare mate.
So beautiful

Looks like it's time to get a 4" lift for the car and some bigger tyres. Or... maybe a ferry. But where is the fun in that? 😉
🤣 I think the BT is fine but the CX5 might need replacing. 😉
you might have to build some kinda Bailey bridge over that so you can get in & out of your property all year round

Yep, we'll end up with a couple I think.

Time to invest in a pontoon bridge, or maybe a boat so you don't get flooded in.

I read that the Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha'apai volcano that erupted might have disrupted the El Nino .
I'll have a look into that. I know they can dramatically change weather patterns.
YEP,
Looks to me like time for some earth moving and making plenty of swales to slow that water down..
There's a few swales in the plan BR. 😉
A positive - less risk of bushfire. Pleased you possibly have ideas from Daniel.
