When I was commuting by bike I had moments of bliss such as yourself, where I could enjoy myself and think about nothing other than flying through space powered by my own two legs haha. But then moments of rage with the amount of reckless driving I'd have to put up with. I was lucky enough to have 4 miles of my commute be trail but the other 5 miles were pure Chicago insanity. Way too many ghost bikes in Chicago I can tell you that.
Weather will be dropping fast in Chicago. Lake Michigan lake temperature is currently 71F. Maybe. it's even warmer at the Chicago end of the lake. Riding time may be limited. Do all the bike riding you can before I-Pass bike paths are installed.
@@j.c.7057 youre right about that, the people on the east side that can get to the lake shore trail easily have it made. I was going from Logan Square to Skokie. When I could get to the north shore trail I was GOLDEN!!!! but it was everything before that haha.
Hey Josh, just started watching some of your vids and ended up subbing. This one came on and I thought to myself "wonder where this dude lives?". Then I saw Pikes Peak. haha, small world. I just moved back to the Springs (born and raised), to work @ SRAM actually. Love your content man - Maybe I'll see ya on the trail sometime!
I totally agree with you when you say that you can go so fast with such a simple vehicle. I think to myself every time I ride a bike how cool it is that someone thought up and built the first bike and that all you have to do is pedal to get from a to b quickly. Also, the feeling of freedom thrills me every time. It is so flexible and easy to handle...and the best part is, you dont have to go to the petrol station all the time to add new fuel.
Hi Josh. Been following your channel for a while now. I subscribed to your channel just now and you are the first channel I have ever subscribed to. Keep up the good work. Looking forward to more content.
I love biking the Rock Island Trail too. I keep wondering when they're going to finish the construction between it and Mid Shook and when they're going to connect it to the Santa Fe Trail. I love watching your rides, because I actually do some of them myself. I love our greenway trails so much. Glad to see that they mowed down that part of the Homestead Trail. Last time I tried that part, I had to walk my bike to the nearest trail into the neighborhood there and find my way through to the paved trail across the Carefree there. Watch out for goat head thorns.
I agree there is spmething special in commuting by bike. For me it is a magic buffer between thoughts from work and how they rarely are in my head by the time i get home. Interested yo hear how you can cost effectively keep the chain clean.
Hello. How does your Kona 853 feel compared to your old cross check? Some reviews have said the non-853 is too stiff when not loaded. I have a Norco Search reynolds 725 and I fund it overly stiff and harsh compared to my cross check (not as enjoyable). There is a used 853 Kona for sale near me. Thank you.
@@JoshRomeroYT Thanks. On the Norco, I changed the carbon fork to steel but it's still not as smooth. Someone else bought the Kona 853, so I'm selling the Norco and looking for another Kona 853 or Crust Bombora. (the Norco is still a great bike). Thanks.
My drivetrain sounds bad I know. My hybrid takes a beating and cleaning is a lot of work on a 16 mile round trip. I am also out in the dark. No time for gen Z grinding my coffee by hand. I roll out of bed at 4:45 and hit it. Enjoyed the video though and support anyone who rides.
I agree. Bike commutes are fun everyday but Fridays, especially the afternoon ride home is a different level of fun. 😊

It's the only thing holding me back nowadays. Depends where in Chicago you are, but that would be the case for me as well.

Thanks for the ride.
Hey what happened to the rogue panda double decker bag? How’s it doing?
Nice bike. Kona

Definitely feels lighter and a tad bit stiffer but I can’t say that’s all due to the 853 and not the carbon fork.
