    Ironically, I just saw my audiologist today regarding this. I didn't know this was adjustable. So she gave me a small boost in so I could understand better, rather than comfort. I go back in a couple of weeks.

    Very helpful information. This is my biggest issue and to know that the audiologist has some tweaks he can do in noisy environments, including REM, is good to know. Thanks!

    This was VERY helpful! I recently upgraded to the Advanced Bionics Sky M90 sound processors and one of the AutoSense classifiers is “Speech in Noise” which uses UltraZoom with a SNR Boost. So the T-Mic gets used as well but if I had a regular Speech in Noise program that can be set to a manual program by itself then regular UltraZoom is used and I really don’t like it and the reason I don’t like it is because the T-Mic is disabled and only the front mic is used while the rear is reduced. The SNR version the T-Mic and front mics are used and the rear is reduced.
    I always wondered how this worked but I don’t like UltraZoom with or without the SNR because it doesn’t allow me to hear from behind. If someone is calling me and it’s an emergency and they’re behind me I won’t hear them, they have to run to get me.
    Now I have a much better understanding to how this works and how it should work. I see my audiologist next week to get my map adjusted. :)

    Hi DR Cliff, longtime follower, new wearer of HA. I have Lyric 4 in both ears. Since they are analogue, one channel and completely in the ear, I assume they only have one microphone? Does the Lyric 4 have noise reduction programs? That is my only negative experience so far, in very noisy situations. I have watched the REM videos before. Again, since the Lyric 4 is completely in the ear, can you still insert the little device that you use for conducting REM? Thanks.

    This is a reach Dr. Cliff. I have been wearing Phonak hearing aids for over three months. For the last few weeks only one of them has content coming out of them. The other has static or indistinct sound. My provider seems unable to solve the mystery. Can you recommend providers in the Boston-Wellesley-
    Needham Massachusetts area? Love your videos. Thanks.

    Great info dr cliffe.
    I personally have problems in background noise. My oticon s2 were just replaced so I'm hoping the new ones will work better.
    It's been almost a year of trial and error to get the settings correct.

    Dr. Olson,,
    Perfect Timing….
    Long time follower, the info., and help I received from your videos is priceless…
    Which leads me to my question…. I presently have a pair of Oticon Ruby2.. I was just at my audiologist for an adjustment in my noise in speech program due to fan and AC noise, low talkers etc….
    And I was told that I am at the end of what the ruby2 can do for me,, and I may be better served with the Oticon More 3 or 2….
    I can not find anywhere info to compare the 2, so that I may try to make a correct decision…..
    I love my Ruby’s but they do have a few short falls…
    They have been set with REM…
    Any help, advise, or comparison info, would be Greatly Appreciate….
    Thank You Dr. Olson,
    Vince

    • @DrCliffAuD
      @DrCliffAuD  3 года назад +1

      If they've been correctly programmed with REMs and the Speech-in-Noise program has been optimized then you are probably at your maximum performance with the Ruby 2s. However, what is your Speech in Noise Score? Without that score, it is not possible to know if your level of expectation in Background noise is accurate. Also, you may need a remote microphone, not a new set of devices.

    IN May I called the VA in Prescott, AZ, over the phone I heard June 9th at 10:00 am. I went there and was told my appointment is July 9th not June 9th. Parking is difficult and I had to walk a long way with problems with my foot and ankle with arthrits. It seems that an appointment 2 months after I called is a long time. It has been 7 years since I was in audiology. It seems to be a long time to get an appointment. I can't afford hearing aids from the private source, and medicare does not dispense hearing aids.

      Actually 2 months at Prescott VA is not bad. Yes, parking & renovations are a mess. Ask if they can fit you with Phonak aids.

    • @PeterMcClintock
      @PeterMcClintock 3 года назад +1

      Me too. I use the Oticon more ans there is no speech in noise program, just a MoreSound Booster that I don't think is the same thing. My experience is that the More approach is better than speech in noise programs I have tried before.

    • @pentatronic
      @pentatronic 3 года назад +2

      @@PeterMcClintock Audiologist here. Your hearing aid provider can add a speech in noise program to Oticon More aids if you need one. But they often don't add one, because the default settings usually work just as well. If you find that you struggle to hear in certain situations, you can talk to your provider and they can maybe add a program that is tailored to those situations.
      The trend has been for hearing aids to become more automatic, so that you don't need manual programs. That way you don't have to fiddle with them as much. But manual programs are still an option if you find that they help.

I just don't want to wait 87 months for relief. Why the va so slow, no call to me, I had to call them, and then 3 months from call to appointment. TOOOOO long

    What about listening to music? Putting headphones over hearing aids results in whistling.

    • @DrCliffAuD
      @DrCliffAuD  3 года назад +1

      Can you stream the music into your hearing aids?

    • @natesworld315
      @natesworld315 3 года назад +1

      Hi Dr. Cliff,
      I use aids for streaming music extensively, though they lack bass response compared to headphones. I am totally blind with an 85 DB loss in both ears. For the past four years, I have been using Phonak Audeo B90s and love them. Receiving a pair of Oticon More model ones in a few weeks.
      Wish I could find a safe way to listen to my headphones.
      Experienced a sudden hearing loss episode in my left ear and received a steroid injection in my left ear to preserve hearing since oral meds failed. My audi and I agree that the left ear is cochlear implant ready, though the evaluators disagree.
      Thanks for your educational channel!

    I specifically drove an hour each way to visit a Dr.Cliff Audiologist using best practices however after fitting Starkey Genesis 2400, no sound in noise (or any post fitting testing) were performed. Fitting, one followup and now I’m told we’re finished see you in 6 months? So you speak about fine-tuning these expensive hearing aides to get the most out of them but put simply, Audiologist just don’t spend the time! I’m sorry to say my experience with a Dr.Cliff recommended Audiologist was just as poor as a Non-Dr.Cliff recommended audiologists..😢
