    @TheArmenian Not really, Azerbaijan has been around for as long as Armenia. They are one of our oldest neighbors, to the south of the Araxes river, as Atropatene (Atrpatakan). With the progression of Arabic, Turkic and Persian pronunciation, Aturpatakan evolved to Azerbaijan. What we mean by Azerbaijan not existing before 1918 is the Caucasus state of Azerbaijan, which was known as Eastern Armenia, Arran and Shirvan prior to the creation of Azerbaijan in 1918.

    There was no Azerbaijani state at that time. There were Turkoman and Mongol tribes ruling various portions of the Middle East. When the Turkomans destroyed the Armenian political entity, they were forced to turn to a familiar nation or migrate. Those who migrated formed Cilicia; the others joined forces with and accepted Georgian rule. Armenians and Georgians (and Albanians) constantly fought alongside each other. Don't look at today's conflicts, Georgia is Armenia's oldest brother nation.

    @flyinjoethebest Also, I'd add that Rome, and the other nations you mentioned, were super-powers for the largest portion of their histories, so their (or their successors') persistence into our age is unsurprising. Armenia has practically only known a history of suppression with limited independence, therefore, especially being surrounded by such hostile nations, its cultural and political existence today can be arguably more impressive.

  • @Arzive
    @Arzive  13 лет назад

    @unknown198523 No, I never said that. I meant Iranian Azerbaijan (or Azarbaijan). The confusion begins when "Azerbaijani language" became the generic term to designate the Turkic lingua franca of Iran (at that time, centered in Iranian Azerbaijan). When the Caucasian Turks (who spoke this language) were forming a nation with the fall of the Russian Empire, "Azerbaijani" was the most natural designation they accepted as their identity. "Azerbaijani" is a borrowed identity used by Caucasian Turks.

    @flyinjoethebest It's not about being special, but rather acknowledged, and for the sake of enriching the internet with accessible information (i.e.: for people looking for antique maps with Armenia in it). Additionally, it can be used as a tool against historical revisionists who claim and insist that Armenians have no legitimate place in history (or in the mentioned territories), which is unfortunately part of a cultural (white) "genocide" aimed at Armenians since the actual genocide of 1915.

    @keghamminas I was born and raised in Abkhazia, I grew up next to many nationalities, and I have to admit that among all the other nations we Armenians understand Georgians the best. I still don’t get how Turks think, I don’t understand Azeri’s or Chechens either and I don’t even understand what goes on in the minds of the Abkhazians. But I sure as hell understand Georgian logic : ). Because of this we actually can work very well together and it’s a shame we aren’t closer to each other today.

  • @PeopleOfAr
    @PeopleOfAr 13 лет назад

    @keghamminas I think we shouldn’t make this into some emotional problem. We can work well on some grounds, but on others we have differences. The problem with many Armenians is they are disappointed with Georgians and turn all this into a problem. I believe this is unnecessary if we think about this rationally in the light of reality. But the fact of the matter is Armenians are disappointed because they had great expectations. I say don’t have any expectation, just react in accordance to reality

  • @PeopleOfAr
    @PeopleOfAr 13 лет назад

    @keghamminas But we shouldn’t make this into a bigger problem than it is and I do think it’s good to recall those moments in history when we did assist each other greatly. There are so many common grounds and there is much prospect for future cooperation. We’ll see how it all unfolds. Life is not that black and white it’s not friend OR enemy. At least that’s my position. Hope you don’t mind me replying. Take care brother!

    @keghamminas They are a free country and should decide their own policies the way they wish. And we should do the same , peruse our interests without worrying about them. We shouldn’t expect them to sever ties with a major player in the region like Turkey just for us. Or to break ties with Azerbaijan that is paying them for transit of oil. They in return shouldn’t expect us to die for them in war against Russia or fight on their side in Abkhazia etc…

    We Armenians are an ancient people: Armenians were there 6.0000 yrs before BC. We are the descendants of Noah after the ark came to rest on Mt Ararat. However, the Mongols came in and took over the land a thousand years ago. They call themselves Turks and Azeris. Azeris are Turkish Persians (Mongols) who were given our lands almost 100 years ago (Baku) in a rigged settlement (treaty) after the first treaty was refused. All Armenian lands should be returned to us.

    @keghamminas I’m sure they have “good” reasons for their actions. We are but a small country, we are not a major player so we are not that important to them. They consider pleasing Turks and Azeris more important. In this day and age historic friendship doesn’t count for anything. It’s all politics. And hey it’s obviously working well for them because today Georgia is making economic progress and corruption is as good as eliminated.

  • @PeopleOfAr
    @PeopleOfAr 13 лет назад

    @keghamminas I agree on the lack of Georgian sympathy towards us and the false propaganda of accusing Armenians of about everything that goes wrong in Georgia today. And I know for a fact that Armenians sympathize with Georgians more then than vice verse. But I disagree on making their foreign policy a discussion between us. It's not our business to decide whom they should be friends with and whom not. We after all are partners with Russia, they need partnership as well. It's understandable.

  • @ThaChosenChild

    Part 2
    It therefore represents an act of slander, which should entail legal consequences. This act of slander is particularly aggravated by the accusations of murders allegedly committed by Mr Balayan." Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly."

    @keghamminas That's a good point about the genocide. But I guess their policy is hijacked by the Turks as well. I've talked to Jews about the same issue and they tell me they need Turkey as the only muslin country to be their strategic partner that's the only reason they don't recognize it either. I guess what I'm saying is we shouldn’t consider it “everything or nothing”, it's all understandable to a degree and we should focus on our own best interests.

  • @PeopleOfAr
    @PeopleOfAr 13 лет назад

    @keghamminas I’m actually worried about the false propaganda going around Georgian circles trying to use Armenia as a scapegoat for their internal and external problems. But hey that’s the reality and we should take it as it is and most of all pursue our interests above anyone else. If we have no expectations then there is no disappointment. If there one day develops respect for us we shall grant them the same, if not then not. Just as well, it’s life.

    this is not foreign policy.Naturally Armenia's state has the right to
    question Georgia about it's foreign partnerships when they become
    threatening to the national security of Armenia.Today ,political relations
    in the world ,even between super- powers are inter-connected like a giant
    chess ,domino or mikano games .
    Anyhow let's hope the best evolution for Armenian-Georgian relation-ships.

    Today's present is more important than the past ,the future
    is more important than today.With my utmost respect to all
    honnest intellectuals, the actual policy of Georgia against Armenia
    in favour of Azerbaidjan and Turkey should become the first major
    subject of discussion between Georgians and Armenians !
    The truth is above all hatreads and old historic biases.

We’re all people on this earth trying to make the best of it. All our actions have consequences and we should all take responsibility for it. I’m sure one day everyone will have to take their responsibility for their actions, whether they want it or not. It’s not up to us to judge them and it’s not up to them to judge us.

    i just was joking becouse i got as a joke that bagrations are bagrutinians or whatever. that was funny from one of the armenians for me.i didnt take it serious, just like your comment, im joking and you are crying?and who is envy?:))) and e.t.c... and yea,im not racist but i really dont apriciate turkey, becouse of our whole history conflicts, but beside turkey, armenia and russia we have a friend, called azerbaijan, say whatever you want but the steps which azeris made a lot, makes them friends

    i'm a bit sorry,i georgia really needs to have brother,and armenia also,our brotherhood is vital but in hard times armenians hit the knives to us from behind, inspite of many facts where our friendship is clear, there are also many other arguments prooving oposite,if we don't go too far in history sources the 90th is enough to say that armenian batalion fought against us in abxazian region,it doesnot metter it was official or not but when even russians didn't interference,armenians had already..

    Recognizing the Armenian Genocide is the least duty,
    but not policy ,that we should anticipate from our nearest
    and most ancient (Christian? friend?) or neighbour,they know
    the truth well ,at least stay nutral and not stand a monument
    for criminal "Taalat" pasha the murderer; many countries away from
    Armenia in South America ,Canada...etc.have recognized the genocide
    because they are simply civilized.Let them respect our church and
    Armenians in Georgia..2

    Of course not ,Armenians do not look for problems ,personally
    i had plenty of respect to the georgian nation since my history
    studies in an Armenian school ,my opinion started to change after
    the collapse of the URSS ,watching the 3 transcaucasian republics
    and their attitudes ;Azerbaidjan with pogromes ,massacres and bloody
    war against weakend Armenia and Artsakh ; then Georgia with it's
    political pathetic adventures starting with Chevernadzé and keeping
    on to the war ...2
