There's few shows that can do scenes like this where you are just shocked or surprised because you've never seen it done before in an older series. It's a shame so many looked at it as a Sopranos clone when it was anything but.
The Sopranos was more of an in-depth character study in a Mafia setting, while Boardwalk empire is completely about the lifestyle of politicians and organised crime leaders back in the 20s. Completely different from the sopranos. I’d say it’s better than the sopranos in some aspects, it doesn’t waste its time on “dream sequences” or other whimsical bullshit to develop its characters. It’s also much better at showing how negotiations, hits, and meetings go out. It also does a good job at showing life on the other side, the ones who aim for justice. They kinda did this in the sopranos albeit poorly.
@@WhoopsieDayZ I loved Test Dream, but the others felt way too forced and trying to emulate twin peaks. But Test Dream will always be one of the greatest parts of any show ever

Being set in NJ and about gangsters whilst sharing cast and crew is why. Aside from, you're right it's different. The themes for instance.
