Hey I have a question about the Maxwell gaming headset. It looks like they have personalized spatial audio? Is that correct? Like how Creative does with their SXFI app and taking pics of your face and ears? I think Apple is doing that now too with their new headphones...
Thank you for the great video. I have just preorder my headset. I'm in the UK . Im coming from artic wireless pro and they were good but didn't blow me away. Can't wait 🎉
Closing music too loud brother. I thought my volume broke down or something 😂 Awesome review as usual. Can't wait for your comparison videos. I always watch those. I'm sad I'm on a preorder too. Might take a month to arrive.
Hey Techne - while researching gaming headsets, your videos helped me decide on the Maxwells, which are amazing. But what also caught my eye in your videos are your single color ball caps. What brand are they and where do you buy them? I'd love to know. Thanks, Techne!
Watched this review like 3 times..... sooooooo i think these are the headphones i want. I was so so close to buying the artic pros but i hate having too many things to play with( the seperate EQ control box scares the living hell outta me lol) i just want a dongle i can plug in and away i go...... i normally play all kinda games, FPS, driving, story etc and i think these are the headphones. I was thinking about WZ footstep, would they be as good as the steelseries and then you told us the story at the end..... i hate messing with settings as you've probably guessed 🤣 if you had to leave one setting on forever as a sweet spot for all gaming as an whole, what would you go for? Great review 👏
Honestly I've got a pair of steelseries pro wireless and if I were to do it again I'd skip steelseries. They have a lot of great features but the build quality is seriously lacking, just from normal daily wear gaming etc for 2 years the left earcup of my headphones has cracked at the hinge. It's a known fault and there is no easy way to repair it.
Only thing I’m curious about is the comparison in foot steps between the nova pro wireless. The Simultaneous Bluetooth is a bummer. I’ve seen other vids saying the nova pro is better in the foot step category. If you got the Xbox version a couple months ago at 250 is it worth purchasing the Maxwell?
i just sent my penrose back the headband cracked, thank god they are realising a new headset and using more metal as part of the construction after using the penrose for almost a year i cant go back to dynamic drivers again, the diference in my opinion is just too big. Thanks for the early review keep up the amazing work :)
So, the PS5 version is available now. And I'm planning to get a PS5 in the future. Should I get that or wait for the Xbox version? Also, is the Dolby Atmos a big deal since the PS5 doesn't have it? Will the Xbox version work for the PS5 because of Dolby Atmos or don't even bother?
The moment I saw this announced, I knew I'd be sold as long as they upgrade the comfort and wireless range from the Penrose. Thank goodness they did. Also thabk you for the passionate and highly informative content.
Great video about those headphones, i will wait for Xbox version and maby u will do vs ps ( differences between dolby atmos and tempest 3d ) or just please tell which version of those headphones would be better for using to ps5, tv etc. I would be very grateful 😉
I just opened my Maxwell and plugged it into the PS5. I then Bluetooth them to my phone and changed the settings to terrible mode or whatever it's called. I then listened to RUclips premium music KCamp Woozie and that bass was absolutely perfect. I would suggest anyone check that song out if you want to see the headset in action but hey that's just my opinion and opinions are like assholes everyone has 1. I then listened to Seven pounds of pressure by J. Alphonse which has highs and bass and woohoo let's go Audeze Maxwell. They came correct with Audeze Maxwell are a Big and I mean Big improvement over the Penrose. If you were on the fence at all don't be these are the ones. Great review Techne
Hi, i have the Penrose, do you recomend the upgrade for the Maxwell? The Penrose Xbox version, also works with the PS5, changing the dongle to PC mode, do you think that it will be the same with the Maxwell? Thanks in advance. Love you work!
Really coming off as the "get of my lawn" old man this video. As an average consumer I do find Gadgetry Tech's measurements useful. There's nothing wrong with using objective measures to supplement all the feelings you throw out. Saying sound is subjective is like saying beauty is subjective. There are many objectively attractive traits (symmetry, clear skin, average facial traits, etc). Not everyone can afford 100 headsets that are cozy, some people can only afford one and would like a headset that is objectively good.
Gadgetry Tech still hits you with that gamer talk though. Audiophiles will tell you about how they EQ a specific frequency range ... from my experience their products are overhyped. I'm currently wearing Edition XS a $500 headset through a Magni amp and honestly, not much better than what I have experienced in the past.
@@TheQuickyouknow How it sounds in specific games and the "why" behind it. Audio imaging (footsteps and their accuracy). General sound stage (also goes into audio imaging). Shows the difference in EQ settings and exactly what it effects and how that will correlate to in game audio. Literally the most brilliant review of this headset.
Hello @TheTechne, how you doing? Love your videos man, help me a lot when i need to do some research on what to buy. Im from Brazil, so its a little bit harder to buy the brand new technology when released. Always need to be looking for someone thats is going to the US so i can ask them to buy it for me ahahah. Anywyas, got the Audeze Maxwell, had the penrose aswell because of your reviwes, and love it! I had the whicked cushions for my penrose, and was really anxious to buy the cushions for the maxwell aswell... Do you have any ideia when they will realese it? And about the software on the headset, do you have any news on it? Thank you for your time! Love yor videos! keep on posting =D Hugs from Brazil!!
Looking forward to the comparison. I love the sound of the range you are getting. I have the Penrose Xbox version. I don't need a new headset yet but still interested in what's new.
I just watched one of your videos where you don't necessarily recommand a dac/amp for gaming headset. Does that apply to the Maxwell? Or is it in another category?
Hi techne your the best headphones reviewer on the planet your just so honest and true to your reviews I've had so so many gaming headphones I had tried I play on ps5 only I'm currently using the nova pro wireless and the turtle beach stealth 700 gen 2 Max I use the nova pro wireless more they seem like they sound better I've just ordered the new Maxwell gaming headphones do you think I made a good decision how do they sound and do you think there too heavy because I play every every day 5 to 6 hours everyday thank you stay true
Great review as always. Love your passion and energy. When you review the Xbox version can you please try the USB dongle with the Playstation as well to see it still works? Audeze are being vague about whether it would work (similar to the Penrose) .. obviously they want consumers to purchase both versions for those that own XBox and PS5 💰. Also curious to know if the tempest 3d will still work with the PS5 on the Maxwell XBox version.
With the headset being out for a few months. It would be nice to see people, not just Techne follow up regarding quality issue. There have been reports of the headband snapping at the same locations as the previous gaming headsets (mobius and penrose). Interesting that we aren't seeing follow ups about durability. Not on audeze gaming headsets but others, seeing that these headsets are more expensive it would be nice to see how theyre holding up months after release.
Absolutely agree. They raised the price since, but still worth it. I've owned many headphones, it's a very good option if you can handle the weight. Don't buy for the microphone though. I'd also recommend to switch hear pads.
Thanks for this - really appreciate the details. Request - as a Mobius owner could you please compare these to the Mobius. And if you are really feeling cozy, these versus the LCD-GX as well. I'd really love to hear how these stack in the entire Audeze line up. No worries if not. Deep gratitude.
Well i was going to buy these (Pre order them) For Xbox/PC. Ive spent nearly 2 years saving up to buy a new headset. But in the UK they are £80 more expensive (US $329=£270). Sorry but the cost difference is ridiculous . Thank you though i like your reviews, lots of information as always. You are awesome when it comes to testing and i love that you give your personal opinion be it good or bad.
Hey Techne, thank you for this overview. I've been waiting for some reviews of this headset to come out. One question, if you can clarify, for the Playstation version, do the presets(treble boost, bass boost, etc)carry over to the PS4/ps5? Or are they only limited to PC?
I presume they are actually in the headset has he stated they were stock EQ settings hence why you don't need an android unless you like messing about with EQ, but can understand your concerns they are so many that don't like Sony inzone I would be all over Sony intones if you could adjust the eq on ps5 what such an error by Sony esp for their own console
Nice tats! Also if i did not have the SteelSeries Nova Pro Wireless and I didn't absolutely need the simultaneous Bluetooth and wireless, I would've sold my Nova's and gotten these. Still can't get over that Penrose sound.
Thanks for the review. I actually ordered these the other day. I can’t wait for them! A quick question, if I may... How loud do these get? I have the SteelSeries Arctis Nova Pro Wireless connected to my PS5 and certain games, like MWII sound great a little past mid-volume levels. Other games, like God of War Ragnarok and Hogwarts sound kinda low and …flat? Like, I have to turn the volume about 3-4 notches from max to get that “punch”. I’ve noticed with most headsets, PlayStation systems have always sounded a little on the lower side than Xbox and PC system do, for some reason…
Absolutely loved this video. Seeing your excitement during the COD/Warzone part made me all warm and fuzzy lol. It looks like these might become your new favorite headset. Can I pick your brain some more please? This video came at the perfect time, as I might be in the market for a new headset. Playing on PC with Arctis 7p's, that need to be replaced. I hated the new EQ presets on the 7p+'s (but I liked your custom EQs from an older video), and I wasn't a fan of the Nova 7P's when I tried them either, so I don't think I want to try the Nova pro's. Right now I was thinking about the Astro A50's (especially after your video about them from last year or so). Are you planning a comparison video between these and the A50's? If not, which do you recommend? They will be used primarily on PC playing MW2 and/or battlefield 2042, 80% of the time. I already have a 7p+ for my ps5, but I'll get the PlayStation version of whichever new headset I pick Incase I need to swap them out.
Hi I would not get the a50 headphones there so outdated with battery life or even sound astro A380 are way better I was thinking about getting these Maxwell but it's just how heavy they are other then that there a go
Hey man! I'm a little late to the video, but I would be very curious about a comparison between these and the Corsair HS80s. I know, totally different price bracket, but I'm still interested. Great video as always!
i wanna say a stinkin thank for the work you do. i'm currently struggeling with my turtle beach 700 gen2 max cause the range of it being soooo poor. being 3-4 meters away from the dongle makes it start crackeling like hell. so i am looking for something else, since i have the second 700 gen 2 max and nothing has changed. in every review you talk about all the information i need for me to make desicion. no other channel does it this compact and to the point. thank you a lot for you help, i will buy these.
Techne I really need to know something about them, can you use them connected via aux cable to the controller on your Xbox Series Console? And also, does the microphone work?
Is this a worth upgrade from the Sennheiser 598sr openbacks? Mine are 6 or 7 years old and starting to show its age a bit. I know one is wired and openback but I have been hoping wireless would get good enough that it'd be atleast a minor upgrade or similar in audio quality while still being wireless by the time I upgrade. From what I can tell from reviews it sounds like this might be it finally?
LETS GO!! Check out the headset of the year!? I impulse bought these instantly. I’ve been using the Penrose for over a year. Wicked Cushions you say?! Can’t wait to slap some of those on too. Do you think Wicked Cushions should make a replacement headband for that leather band? Might want to give them that idea. I’ll only take 1% of profits 😂. I hope this hype is real! Can’t wait for this EXTRAVAGANZA. I was hoping the microphone could compete with a usb mic. Sorry long video gets a long comment lol. Can’t wait to get mine!
Just received my Audeze Maxwell headset. The sound surprised me. Everything is so clean and clear, even in the sea of bass, you are still able to hear every single details of other sound/instruments in the music. The bass are punchy and impactful, not overpowering or muddy like my previous A50. You may not be able to hear much difference from low quality mp3 pop songs, but once you throw a Hi-res song/music on it... woo, it feels good. Only downside is, this headset is heavy.... my neck is tired and aching after using it for a while. Wish they use lighter metal, this one here seems like Steel to me and steel is heavy.
question, is the audio quality out of the box same as penrose? shall I tweak around it or not? I know you can't really tweak with it right now, but it has pre default ones, Should I just use the "Audeze" option for now?
@TheTechne Maybe I didn't hear if you mentioned it, but I'm asking anyway, can you run this headset with cable via a dac/amp (Rode ai-1) and would it make any difference at all in terms of sound
Hey whats your opinion about the battery life? i don't think it can go the 80hrs as advertised. I've used mine for roughly 15 hours and its down to 66% . If my Math is right then this thing wouldn't go past 50hrs and a couple of people on reddit have similar experience with their Audeze
the app wasn't live when I was testing. But I still use these bad boys today, but still don't use any app. I have always been an out of the box fan. But if you want to mess around with something fun, Doubly Atoms
I just wonder how they compare to Penrose X. I had them and returned them, I didn't trust the build quality, but especially bass just wasn't as good as my TB Stealth 700 gen 2. How much has truly improved over Penrose X?
Hi i am thinking of buying the maxwell, but i am rather confused should i go with the ps5 or xbox version. is there any clear difference between them beside the console exclusive port?
The Maxwell Xbox version includes an Dolby Atmos license + the Audeze logo are in different colors. Otherwise, it's the same. So if you won't use it for consoles buy the one that are cheapest. :)
How would you compare that to the Nova Pro Wireless? Also, how's the battery life on the Maxwell cause I'm looking for a new gaming headset. Lemme know. Thanx.
Techne ..... I was really confused between this one and the Razer kraken v3 pro wireless headset with that haptics, which one should i get for the PS5 plz 😅?
Hey Techne, how would you compare these vs arctis nova pro? Maybe you will do that in your next video as you mentioned you gonna compare these to other headsets? Thanks!
So, in the $150-200 range, is the Nova 7X my best option for the Series X? I don’t care using a wired headset, i’m using the HyperX cloud Alpha. I play fps most of the time (apex, COD, Battlefield…).
I'm not an audiophile or anything like that, been using the Audio Technica ATH AD700x for gaming for a couple years and I thought they were pretty good, just ordered the Audeze Maxwell can't wait!!
I think you should start showing how to set headsets up as well, these were a pain. Finally figured out it was the usb had to be 3.1 in order for it to work lol.
Hi! i wonder if it is possible to use them with sound card (i have AE-9) with a mini jack? And if so do i need to launch them and will they waste a battery life? Thanks!
I really enjoy your reviews! Please don't change. I can go to other review channels for a different review, I come to your channel because I enjoy the work you do! Maybe one day I'll get to purchase one of these headsets in your reviews, too!
I have the Astro A50's (gen 3) right now and thinking about upgrading to these. Funny to read so many comments about people who also own a pair of A50's.
So I have a big issue with this headset. Until I tick "disable all enhancements", the audio levels are horrible. Music sounds full and loud while games and Discord audio sound quiet and tinny. I checked all my settings in terms audio (chat vs speaker in Windows) and it was all set up correctly. After disabling audio enhancements everything became louder and clearer, but then I was unable to choose an EQ preset, and it still wasn't as loud or as clear as my Syn Max Air. It's weird that music sounded so good while everything else just didn't hit.
Can I use the ps5 version on xbox with the 3.5 cable? and if yes, is there any sound difference? I have both console and I want to buy a good sounding headset that works for both.
I think the only thing missing is being able to use Bluetooth and the wireless dongle simultaneously. So far, I’m enjoying the maxwell more than the mobius.
the epos hybrid has symotanius, but the boom mike didn't work in the one that was sent. So I think the only other one is steel series? The epos h3pro hybrid's drivers crash frequently and reset from silent to noise, and the no-sleep doesn't work.
As for the noise suppression feature it's for the mic(s), not the sound. I corrected this in the vid, and we will test this more in my next video.
When you test the microphone could you play some music (in the room) to see if you can hear it but the people you are playing with can’t? This could be a workaround to the lack of simultaneous bluetooth music.

Thank you for the great video. I have just preorder my headset. I'm in the UK . Im coming from artic wireless pro and they were good but didn't blow me away. Can't wait 🎉
Closing music too loud brother. I thought my volume broke down or something 😂
Awesome review as usual.
What about the max volume - is it really loud?
@@t-e-x-tmeonte-le-gramthe_techn is this a fake just to install the app?
you the man techne, ive been checking everyday for this video
Can’t wait to the comparison to the penrose. I’ve had mine for a while and the sound is still unmatched
just finished it up. going live at 9am
This video is like Christmas for gaming headset enthusiasts and general techne fans 😂
That mic, both with and without boom mic, sounds really good. I'm pleased.
i just sent my penrose back the headband cracked, thank god they are realising a new headset and using more metal as part of the construction after using the penrose for almost a year i cant go back to dynamic drivers again, the diference in my opinion is just too big. Thanks for the early review keep up the amazing work :)
Awesome review! Love your review from a consumer perspective.
Great Review Techne! thank you. How does the mic compare to the Corsair VIRTUOSO WIRELESS XT?
LOL, well said
Hi, i have the Penrose, do you recomend the upgrade for the Maxwell?
The Penrose Xbox version, also works with the PS5, changing the dongle to PC mode, do you think that it will be the same with the Maxwell?
Thanks in advance.
Love you work!
Really coming off as the "get of my lawn" old man this video. As an average consumer I do find Gadgetry Tech's measurements useful. There's nothing wrong with using objective measures to supplement all the feelings you throw out. Saying sound is subjective is like saying beauty is subjective. There are many objectively attractive traits (symmetry, clear skin, average facial traits, etc).
Not everyone can afford 100 headsets that are cozy, some people can only afford one and would like a headset that is objectively good.
you know I really hate it when people, or neighbors pets walk on my lawn. Hey funny enough, some random pet peed on my new WRX the other day, LOL
@@drewmorg. gamer talk? What does that even mean?
@@TheQuickyouknow How it sounds in specific games and the "why" behind it. Audio imaging (footsteps and their accuracy). General sound stage (also goes into audio imaging). Shows the difference in EQ settings and exactly what it effects and how that will correlate to in game audio. Literally the most brilliant review of this headset.
@@lightweighth2609 who's review is?
Love yor videos! keep on posting =D
Hugs from Brazil!!
Looking forward to the comparison. I love the sound of the range you are getting. I have the Penrose Xbox version. I don't need a new headset yet but still interested in what's new.
tomorrow AM ;)
Good job! Excellent review and opinion. Thanks.
Just got my Xbox version. Waited 4 months! So excited for 🎮 games with the bois tonight!
Great video as always, can’t wait to have mine !!
Hell yeah. Been waiting for this review
Hey, great review! How would you compare this to Audeze lcd-gx? What would you pick?
shockingly close, but of course the lcd is going to be a good bit better paired with a nice amp/dac
Absolutely perfect review! Thanks:)
I second this request, it would be super useful
I third this request
was waiting for this video from you :D! got the penrose lets see how this one goes.
Is the Xbox version 100% compatible with PS5?
Well i was going to buy these (Pre order them) For Xbox/PC. Ive spent nearly 2 years saving up to buy a new headset.
But in the UK they are £80 more expensive (US $329=£270). Sorry but the cost difference is ridiculous .
Thank you though i like your reviews, lots of information as always. You are awesome when it comes to testing and i love that you give your personal opinion be it good or bad.
Nice review 👍🏻 Just, you did not mention battery replacement:)
ANPW come alive on PC. You can hit that high Gain setting in the Engine area and then boost further within the Media tabs -- it gets pretty damn loud.
I'm actually wrapping up my testing between the two as we speak :) I hope to have it out this weekend
@@TheTechne looking forward to it
Hey Techne do you know when your connected to the playstation and you adjust the microphone wheel do you get any feedback from it?
Yes and yes
Is this a worth upgrade from the Sennheiser 598sr openbacks? Mine are 6 or 7 years old and starting to show its age a bit. I know one is wired and openback but I have been hoping wireless would get good enough that it'd be atleast a minor upgrade or similar in audio quality while still being wireless by the time I upgrade. From what I can tell from reviews it sounds like this might be it finally?
Are you getting the fully 80h? as advertised i'm only getting closer to around 50h+ before it runs out
Bro great review. Love the everyday thing test. I know u probably know but that button for the mic. Get video brother
You're weak, you wouldn't last a day wearing a soldiers helmet.
Waiting for Xbox version as I was waiting for your review thank you very much for your honest I have the Penrose now can't wait til they ship 💪🔥
I always see that Xtrfy M4 Tokyo Edition in your videos. Is it good? :D
Question for you man, you experiencing the sidetone crackling issue on your headset? Thanks
Does the Playstation version work with both PC and Playstation?
I think so yes. The dongle can do both
question, is the audio quality out of the box same as penrose? shall I tweak around it or not? I know you can't really tweak with it right now, but it has pre default ones, Should I just use the "Audeze" option for now?
Just ordered and they’re amazing. I put some speed racer wicked cushions on the headband and ear pads 🔥
@TheTechne Maybe I didn't hear if you mentioned it, but I'm asking anyway, can you run this headset with cable via a dac/amp (Rode ai-1) and would it make any difference at all in terms of sound
Hey Techne did you use these with Dolby Atmos or default sound??
Is it good for footsteps
Hey whats your opinion about the battery life? i don't think it can go the 80hrs as advertised. I've used mine for roughly 15 hours and its down to 66% . If my Math is right then this thing wouldn't go past 50hrs and a couple of people on reddit have similar experience with their Audeze
hey @techne do you use the audeze app for EQ or peace or something else?
the app wasn't live when I was testing. But I still use these bad boys today, but still don't use any app. I have always been an out of the box fan. But if you want to mess around with something fun, Doubly Atoms
Does Xbox version work with PC and PS5? Like the nova pro wireless? If so, this is a definite buy.
Sorry for asking but the video is super long to check one detail. Is the hiss less than the Penrose?
One question. Is there a version that works with Series X and PS5? Universal compatibility is a key selling point for me.
Looking for the same answer.....
How would you compare that to the Nova Pro Wireless? Also, how's the battery life on the Maxwell cause I'm looking for a new gaming headset. Lemme know. Thanx.
that comparison is coming this weekend
@@TheTechne Yeee, can't wait. Thanks!!! 😁😁😁
Techne ..... I was really confused between this one and the Razer kraken v3 pro wireless headset with that haptics, which one should i get for the PS5 plz 😅?
this one for sure
Which one you like more, Audeze Maxwell or Nova Pro Wireless? (Or Penrose?)
tomorrow ;)
Hey Techne, how would you compare these vs arctis nova pro? Maybe you will do that in your next video as you mentioned you gonna compare these to other headsets? Thanks!
So, in the $150-200 range, is the Nova 7X my best option for the Series X? I don’t care using a wired headset, i’m using the HyperX cloud Alpha. I play fps most of the time (apex, COD, Battlefield…).
The question is...are they realy good for games like warzone?? Footsteps ecc.... thanks
which one do I need to buy for pc? playstation or xbox model?
I'm not an audiophile or anything like that, been using the Audio Technica ATH AD700x for gaming for a couple years and I thought they were pretty good, just ordered the Audeze Maxwell can't wait!!
I got the Corsair virtuoso XT with some earcup mods, battery life is ass. Wondering how do these compare? 🤔 they look mad dope.
Look at the specs they are 80 hours
Yes and no sound difference. Go watch the other maxwell review from that other guy, he goes SUPER in depth.
And does the mic work too in that case?
@@Rayxiøn86 I don't believe so. From my. Memory at least.
