@NatalieUGA "Different playing conditions" should include all of the conditions Mother Nature can create. And I have no problem with any MLS team's ability to play in them. But POR (and SEA and VAN) go a step further and create unnatural conditions. This is bad for the sport in general. Real soccer fans would bemoan its use - and not defend it.
From a CHELSEA fan i say big respect, i never had a team in the MSL but i do NOW, we were never going to support LA but you guys may not know it but you are the only fans rated from the US ! RESPECT YOUR TETRIS SONG IS NOW WORLD KNOWN

Gunstih ECS may seem better to you because they are in a much larger venue. I have been to both and Timbers Army are much louder in relation to their venue size. Though I must say living in England 2 years and watched my fair share of football. The pacific NW has the most passionate fans in all the MLS
No. Pro sports fans in America aren't expected to provide much of an atmosphere outside of simply showing up to the game. The closest comparison to a soccer supporter culture in America is in College Atheltics with the student sections at football and basketball games.
Our supporter culture is different. IT is a little coordinated but we love a good show and pageantry in the United States. If these guys would have celebrated any other way it would seem unnatural to Americans. When I was watching Spurs v Arsenal it was a little strange not seeing flags everywhere.. Our love for the Rose City is anything but fake. In Portland soccer dominates. ..American support is more Latin American than English, thankfully..hence all the Tifos and drums.

Timbers Army has made me a Timbers fan. Usually I see european soccer to see a crowd like this for a soccer game but as the top comment says "This. Is. In. America." Amazing, I don't think any crowd can match the energy & passion of a soccer crowd. Every year our own MLS is getting better & better, I love it!

I remember when Toronto FC used to be like that, but after inflated ticket prices, a TERRIBLE team (terrible is an understatement) and even worse ownership the team faded into a non factor in the Toronto sports scene. Sad. Much respect to Portland though.

I'm a 'Caps fan and you guys by far have the best support in the league! Our support up here isn't bad but we are no where near you guys! How are the Flounders fans even comparing themselves to you? Sure their Tifos are great but after they roll out their overheads there's nothing too special about them.
The only "cool" thing about the ecs is the boom boom clap thing at the end, then 100 people stand there singing simple stupid stuff, timbers army over ecs any day

@NatalieUGA You must not pay attention up there in Portland. From Jeld-Wen Field's own website: "Proud to be the home to the Portland Timbers MLS soccer team and the Portland State University Vikings football team."
Also, your language comprehension if lacking as well: I mentioned your weather as a potential Portland justification for the use of artificial turf. Nothing more. Other teams play in rain&cold and use REAL grass.
Your "SSS" would have it too if it really was an SSS. Like Toronto's.

Don't be jealous that even with your stadium playing the sound of fans over the PA system, you can't even come close to generating this kind of atmosphere. There's something about following a team for years BEFORE they got into MLS that gives most of us a genuine passion for our team, and it shows. What would you and your fellow Flounders customers know about that? Not much if one is to judge by your USL attendance numbers... You DO know the Flounders were in USL too, right?

Iam very very jealous. I will visit Portland next season just to witness this in the flesh. You timbers Army are insane! Next to Seattle this is just absolutely INSANE. Wait till you come to Jersey. The Redbulls will beat you and you will see how the South Ward is also an insane crowd!
@NatalieUGA Not to split hairs, but your "SSS" is used for other sports regularly - notably American football. That is the big reason why you don't have real grass. And don't give me "it's our weather"-stuff; if TOR can have real grass - so can you.
I'm a Dynamo fan and I can only hope Houston can bring this kind of energy to the new stadium. Houston sports fans tend to be mellow and boring. I do my part to change that, but we need more fans like this!

well the next coming up home game is in LIVESTRONG park in kansas city which also has a pretty good crowd and support that does match up with Seattle and Portland.
I loved it when they scored that big tifo raising and i was under that tifo

Being English, my biggest problem with this is the coordination. It feels considerably fake because it's coordinated. It's great support and miles better than most other MLS teams, but it just doesn't feel natural.
its called a capo son. Its not an american thing. Its commonly done in Italy. There are capo's literally ALL around the world. The epl doesn't have it but many teams in europe do.
