    Good start to understanding avalanches. Great info. Please also stress the importance of understanding slough (or loose snow) avalanches as well as slab slides. It was only slough that caused Jamie Pierre to get washed down a cliff and lose his life at pre-season (low snow) conditions at an unopened November Snowbird.
    RIP JP. Over ten years later and still as missed as ever, buddy! I'd love to tell ya about 900" in Alta last year.

    what type of avalanches slide at 20 degrees?

      Wet slab avalanches. As wet snow is heavier than dry snow gravity has more of an effect on it. Assume you have the same amount of friction between 2 layers of snow and the same slope. The heavier snow will slide more easily.
