Funny how avocados are a stone fruit, just like olives. But avocados are listed separately. Why?
THANKS A LOT!!!😊
@@lourdesbatormcke9561 You are most welcome 🙏. I had a bit of time and thought I’d write a list and this will give people who are extremely busy time to just sit back and enjoy the extremely useful and interesting facts that’s been kindly shared with all
@@donaldjones9830 Yes very interesting 🤔
I always put my bread in the fridge in the summer. I find it stays fresher. When i leave it on the counter, it gets green with mold.
My mom has told me don’t put tomatoes in the fridge. Of course if they are cut up, you should put them in the fridge but a whole tomato? no
Everyone in Italy they do what you have advised because I have family in Torino they keep it on the balcony tomato 🍅 & bread on the counter a useful message I keep parmigiano in the freezer last longer for 2 years no change 🙏🏽🙏🏽
Our grandparents wisdom lives on.
I always put my cheese in the refrigerator in a plastic bag. I never knew that it was supposed to be left out.
Only hard cheese to stay out of fridge
I grew up in the tropics of South America. To my knolege nobody in my colony ever died of food poisoning, eventhough we had no refridgerators. We kept food as cool as posible wit cold water and salting raw meat. When we were ready to cook the meat, we rinsed the salt off with cold water.
You're absolutely correct!
I happy to say, that we've been doing just that for over 20 years.
Nonetheless, if you would allowed to make a few questions, as follow;
Since you've emphasized & advice never to store Bay leaves in the fridge.
Should we applying the rules for same Spinach & many other similar greens foods, such as Khale, Spring onions, Parsley, Coriander, Snow peas, asparagus and so on?
Does it helps to keep them properly inside Glad Wraps or the new Plastic wraps extracting the air out the bags?
Also, could it be possible to store other foods in the fridge, already cooked, such as vegies & legumes, fish & chicken abd for how long ?
We thank you in advance for any courtesy you may extend to our questions!
I'm thrilled you found the video insightful, and it's fantastic to hear you've been proactive in your approach to food storage for over 20 years! Regarding your questions, it's important to note that the storage advice for bay leaves, which are best kept in a cool, dry place, doesn't directly apply to all greens. Spinach, kale, spring onions, parsley, coriander, snow peas, and asparagus usually benefit from refrigeration to maintain their freshness. Wrapping these greens in a paper towel before placing them in plastic bags or containers can help absorb excess moisture and keep them fresh longer. The idea of using plastic wraps that extract air is beneficial as it can minimize exposure to oxygen, thereby extending their freshness.
For cooked foods, including vegetables, legumes, fish, and chicken, refrigeration is a safe practice. Typically, cooked foods can be stored in the refrigerator for 3 to 4 days if kept properly in airtight containers. However, always ensure that the food has cooled to room temperature before refrigerating to prevent the growth of harmful bacteria.
Your curiosity and dedication to proper food storage are commendable! If you have any more questions or need further clarification, feel free to ask. Thank you for your engaging questions and for being a part of our community!
I have found this video to be very accurate as an experienced home cook. I must admit; I was surprised about unfrigerated hard cheese. I'm somewhat reluctant about trying that one. I'll put it to the test for curiosity sake.
Why are hard cheeses in the refrigerator section at the store?
yeah
Because they sell better when they're displayed with a light shining over them from the deli case. (It's all marketing.) And subconsciously, it also makes the cheese appear extra fresh Also, they sell frequently.Harder cheeses such as Parmigiano-Reggiano, and Romano cheeses sometimes if they're left out for an extended amount of time, they tend to get dry and leak their natural oils and lose flavor and depending on the cheese, it will get moldy and have a rotten smell and taste to them due to some of them made from cows or goats milk.
Cheese is a surprise to me
If i dont put my bread in refrigerator...it molds in 2 days!
I keep these three things in the refrigerator. Bread, cheese 🧀 and cut up pieces of onions 🧅. So thank you 🙏

Avocados are stone fruit, like olives, peaches, apricots etc. Good video. Most fruits don’t need refrigeration till they ripen. Classifying them all together would have shortened the video. Tomatoes and potatoes are night shade plants, one is a fruit the other a vegetable. Potatoes must be stored in a cool area where they won’t turn green and produce the solanine gas that can kill people
Also, many condiments don’t need refrigeration either, including some salad dressings, mustard, ketchup. I do refrigerate mayonnaise, but not salad dressings for salad.
Thanks for the information. But I have been storing almonds, cashewnuts, tomatoes, coffee powder and filter coffee decoction in the fridge. With respect to coffee decoction I feel there is no flavour loss and odour contamination

The video states that it is fine to put melons in the refrigerator after they ripen for longer storage.
Raw almonds and raw walnuts are stored in my freezer. For years. The bag I eat from daily is tightly sealed with a rubber band. What about a cut onion? Are you talking about fresh Basil?

If your cheese or bread show green spots, you cannot salvage the food by cutting out the spots. The fungus has penetrated most of the item, even if it doesn't show.
So important to know!
