    I wish laptop makers would wake up to the fact a lot of people would love gaming laptops that are also suitable for professional work.
    And by that, I mean offering:
    - Laptops without XTREEEEME cases and garish logos.
    - Good Adobe RGB and sRGB gamut.
    - Precision trackpads.
    If I'm going to drop close to $2K on a laptop, I want all of these boxes checked. Gaming laptops have a lot of powerful hardware, and it's a shame to limit them to a single purpose.

      The design of this is NOT gaudy looking and thats 1 of the reasons its on my very short list for next laptop
      www.amazon.com/dp/B015KSAFWY/
      It has plenty of power. No idea about the screen quality but its going to beat up my current laptop no problem since its a Thinkpad T420 and its known to have a very terrible TN panel. hell i can't even use it while outside with any amount of sunlight since its so terrible.
      As for the touchpad I hate them and always use a dedicated mouse with my thinkpad t420 so yeah a good chunk of people can just go that route with things like the Logitech MX Master mouse.

      David Lee hated the touchpad, which makes me reluctant to buy it sight unseen.

      It's an actual spec:
      arstechnica.com/gadgets/2016/10/pc-oems-ditch-the-custom-touchpad-drivers-give-us-precision-touchpad/
      It's also something that is loooong overdue. Why should Macs be the only laptops with great touchpads?
      I'm going to use a mouse for FPS games, but I'm not going to play FPS games all the time.

      The MSI Dominator is pretty tame looking, and you can easily turn off the RGB lighting, or turn it to nearly any color you want. I use mine at work and I've only gotten comments on how thick it is.

  • @Spills51

    Just adding my 2 cents. I own the Alienware 17 with a 1070 and think it's fantastic. Great temps, performance and it is built really solid. The keyboard has zero flex and the speakers are great. Literally no complaints.
    Just my experience.

    Lisa, firstly, wanted to wish you Happy Holidays! As a bone fide tech geek, I love watching tech reviews on RUclips...and there certainly are no shortage of them out there. And in a category dominated by...dudes...I just wanted to let you know that you remain one of my go-to favorites in RUclips land. I find your reviews sensible, easy to understand, and technical enough but not to a fault. I mostly appreciate your comments regarding real world use of the tech in questions. Anyway, please keep making these great vids. (love the Janson, History of Art book on the shelf...sadly, my copy disappeared somewhere during one of my moves).

    Personally I think MSi still offer the best deals for gaming laptops and give the best perfomance/features for your money. Cooling and noise are handled very well too. I've had my GE72 apachee 18 months and its not skipped a beat. Plays everything i've thrown at it on high or ultra settings on the GTX 970, Intel i7 6700 and 16gb DDR4 ram. They also have the best keyboards by Steelseries and sound from Dynadio IMO. Looking to upgrade to a 1070 laptop now for VR support.

    I don't know why, but it's 2017 and i still can't figure out why Gaming Laptops still look damn ugly with the state of technology that exist today.

    • @zacronzer
      @zacronzer 8 лет назад +3

      Ardent Dfender there are a few reason :
      1st, its still at the early 2017, most of the newer product would come mid or late 2017
      2nd, a lot of gaming laptop wanted that "striking/ gaming looks" in their cases, since its for gaming.
      3rd cramming a full desktop gpu into a laptop will either make it bigger in height or width, or underpower it like the one in razer blade pro
      4th some company wanted that unique build looks
      5th it wasnt really meant to be used for "professional meeting laptop" even though its capable of it , you would better off using ultrabook for the professional looks

    Great video! Usualy youtubers just show advertisement videos and specs.
    Asus is my favorite (Price/weight/made of metal/cooler). I bought the Asus ROG G56JR (i7 4700HQ/GTX 760m) in 2014 and loved it. Gave it to my sister for her to use in college and looks fine for her to carry.
    Then I bought a Clevo P750DM-G (i7 6700K/GTX 980m 8Gb) and it's great, but heavy (7.5 pounds) and the 330W power brick will make it a one time thing. Never again.
    My next laptop, 2-3 years from now, will definitely be an Asus ROG 15'6.

      V3MD literally 2 thing they are known for? It is literally impossible to say a Mac or Razor Stealth is ugly. And I guess I'll take your word about reliability, not the millions that have owned the same mac for 5 years and it works perfectly.

    I own the Msi stealth pro--it has been designed with great cooling and it does not run burning hot. I can not take this seriously. What is she reviewing??

    • @fredxu99
      @fredxu99 7 лет назад

      Tristan Drago mileage may vary. I returned my first one because the CPU hit 95c constantly, but my 2nd one the CPU rarely goes above 85c running on the same configs. Cooler boost mode also helps but the fans are so loud a lot of users tend to leave it off. I noticed about a 10c drop to around 70-75c max core temp with Cooler boost on. Still a bit toasty but not terribly hot. If she's reviewing the earlier model from 2016, those have had a lot of heating issues but the newer 2017 models are more consistent with their temps.

    • @powerhouse884
      @powerhouse884 8 лет назад

      mnguyea Because they are not made by Razer or Apple.
      Most gaming companies just dont give 2 craps. Most of the time simply cuz they can't. They dont have the engineers required to pull a Razerblade/Macbook Pro form factor design while keeping performance.

    • @declanfinn9319
      @declanfinn9319 8 лет назад

      I like the Razer 14 the most because thin, good looking, and build quality are what I want the most.
      Even though you can get the same internals for about $300 cheaper, the Razer's looks are so good.
      It's so sexy and badass its worth the extra money.

    • @k4everut
      @k4everut 8 лет назад +2

      Because these gaming laptops are built for speed and raw computing power. The cost is where it should be. Before Apple became relevant again, the cost of a computer was based on its computing power. No one really cared about how it looked as long as it got the job done. Apple returned to relevance (with the iPod), then started making beautiful looking AND powerful computers. However, Apple has lately began to place beauty over computing power -- battery life and thinness over functionality. As a result, you have $4000 MacBook Pros and $10,000 Mac Pros that look great but have less computing power than most of these $1500-2000 gaming laptops.
      I do wish that some of these looked a little better, but I will take computing power over looks any day.

    • @k4everut
      @k4everut 8 лет назад

      I agree that they are improving. Also add MSI's GS series and ASUS ROG Strix series. At about 1 inch thick and 4-6 pounds these gaming laptops are thinner, lighter, and more powerful than the 2 inch thick 10 pound monsters that used to dominate the market.

    • @demzerocool7475
      @demzerocool7475 8 лет назад +5

      They're normally big and bulky because they need room for cooling. The thinner, sleeker laptops look cool but sometimes have heating issues. I don't trust thinner laptops.

    I'd love to see a review for 13 or 14 inch laptop with a GTX 1070 or higher. Seem the larger screen laptops get the best specs but it's a lot to carry. Some of us don't need large 17 inch screens

    • @LookItIsHope
      @LookItIsHope 8 лет назад +2

      TerriTerriHotSauce Just be prepared to deal with some heat problems or possibly even thermal throttling if you ever got a laptop that small with a GTX 1070. I can't even imagine one with a GTX 1080. Usually the big 17" laptops have better cooling than the smaller ones because of course size plays a big role for allowing more components/internals in the laptop.

    Thanks for your awesome and honest reviews, definitely one of the best and most concise orator in the tech industry! I am struggling on picking a new laptop, and was hoping to get your professional input. I am an architect looking to upgrade since my current laptop is running out of juice and well... It's about that time.
    I'm deciding between the...
    1: XPS 15 (9560), biggest problem is the lack of 2 drives and no gtx 1060 but I love the build quality and screen (I know I can get a smaller battery and add a second drive but that hassle is slightly annoying) and I would have to do most of the upgrades myself.
    2: MSI gs63 (HIDEvolutions rebranded EVOC all black version), I have concerns regarding the build quality and battery life but I can get a 512gb pcie drive and a secondary 1tb sdd which is really nice along with any other specs I would need.
    3: Blade 14 w/ kabylake and 1tb sdd, biggest problem is heat, the lack of 32gb ram (which I would get with the other 2) and the price but it is very good looking.
    My #1 choice would probably be the MSI ws63 (Would be awesome for you to review this!) but It's really expensive like the the razer being almost $400 more than the dell and msi. I would mainly be using this PC for CAD and Adobe softwares with some light gaming. I ruled out the aurus/gigabyte due to build quality and/or heat, Alienware due to size and weight. I would like something under .75" and under 5.25 lbs with a screen size between 14-15". If you have any other suggestions feel free to send them my way, my ideal budget is around $2500 (which would include both a 512gb and 1tb ssd and 32gb of ram ideally). Thanks! Also, do you have any workstations reviewed that fit or come near these criteria that use the quadro cards on the new pascal structured gpus?
    Thanks, looking forward to your feedback!

Both are a similar price and I was wondering which you thought would perform better, or at least which is the better value. With the upgraded m7 processor would performance be similar to the baseline i5?

    Lisa, what are your thoughts on the Asus ROG Strix GL702VM vs the 502VM? I prefer the 702VM for the extra screen size, smaller bezels, and the USB C/Thunderbolt 3 port. I have noticed that the 502VM cost more. Is there something wrong with the 702VM that is causing it to cost less, or is Asus putting a higher premium on (smaller) size?

    • @Achilla_PR

The one that I'm looking into is the Gigabyte Aero 14. It has a 6700hq, GTX 1060, ~4 lbs, ~95 watt hour battery, 1440p ips. Pascal is the largest GPU jump for laptops in many generations, and is here to stay for at least 2 years. Kaby Lake CPUs are not going to give more than 5-10% gains in battery and power, so it's not really worth waiting for. The only exception is if you are waiting for GTX 1050 and 1050 Ti in laptops such as the Dell XPS 15, then you can wait until March until they are at least announced.

    Any gaming laptop to recommend? I have a budget of 2000$ CAN (around $1500 USA). I don't mind playing games at high or medium with 1080pi. But I do play some AAA games like the Witcher 3. I don't want something too heavy since I will walk 30min each weekend with it. I dislike flashy laptops... I would like something like the Razer Blade, HP Omen, MSI for the design. I play for long hours so nothing extremely loud or extremely hot. Thanks a lot!

    How can you leave out the Alienware 13 R3 with the OLED screen? It's comparable to any of the 13-14" laptops you mentioned and has an OLED 1440p screen. CRT level blacks really set this apart.

    One of the best Alienware 17 configs i seen so far (other than picking on site) was on Best Buys site. I dont know if they still have the deal, but it was like 1899.99$ for GTx 1070 with 1080p Gsync 120hz plus the new eye motion feature. That is a hella deal. You know that 1070 will push the 1080p 120hz nicely too. I got last years model with a 970m and 4k display (was the Best Buy in store custom model. Why they would put a 4k display with a 970m still has me baffled). And I paid pretty much the same price as this new 1070 120hz model. Maybe a hundred less.

    Thanks I need a laptop for a new job to semi replace my gaming pc while I commute I think I'll get the Alienware 15! In Australia they have $620 off atm! I've owned a m11x which I loved and a first gen m17x which was rubbish it had issues with audio and stuttering and latency issues (got a refund)!Before that I had the dell xps m1730 which I loved but died after 12 months it used to get really hot! Any issues with the 15 r3?

      elmin2323 got 17R3, its good, the 3.5 ghz and e-gpu config would be great for future proofing, just keep in mind the I7 you will be getting is an 6th gen, rather then the newest 7th gen

    SPEAKERS! I am running an old (dont laugh) Dell XPS L502 which has a subwoofer in the chassis. Im looking to upgrade to something that can handle current gaming titles but nobody seems to review the sound quality on these laptops. I would like something that can compare to this Dell which has really rich sounds for its size.
    From your tests can you suggest something that has really good sound as I use it for gaming as well as watching films. Im leaning towards Alienware 15 or Razer Blade but Im concerned with tinny sounding laptops.

      Scott Davis alienware has front facing speakers which i heard have been improved due to the new design its gotten this year. If you get the 17 inch model, it has a built in subwoofer as well.

    • @scottdavis506
      @scottdavis506 8 лет назад

      Any Idea the comparison to Razer? Ive heard the speakers are loud just unsure of the depth of sound? Anyone who is using these laptops that could weigh in, Id be grateful for the input.

    • @_TbT_
      @_TbT_ 8 лет назад +1

      Sound is irrelevant, as it can easily be improved by USB DACs and good headphones or separate speakers. Even modestly priced external speakers are better than internal laptop speakers. So don't use sound as a decision criterion.

      Thanks ThunderbyteNet. I travel a lot with my laptop and I didn't want to have to lug around tons of kit. I understand what your saying though. I'm used to good cinema sound with the laptop I have now so I was hoping for something comparable especially as Im looking to drop £2-3K on a new unit.

    i'm looking for a work laptop. i want it to be lightweight with more than average performance (core i5 with 16gb ram at least). it needs to be well built because i'm gonna use it more than 12 hours a day. it needs to be comfortable to use even after that long hours (i mean not too hot, of course i don't plan to stress it at max performance all the time, my work is programming). 15 inches display is a must. resolution is 1080p cuz 4k is not neccessary for programming and might cause problem of scaling with programs that i use. budget is less than 1500 usd. any recommendation?

      omar lewis You'd be hampering the graphics potential by a serious amount if you go with a 720p panel. Your CPU usage will go up pretty high with a 1060, unless you crank up your settings as high as they can go.

    • @K-EVOFFICIAL

      Don't get the 1366 x 768 base model, at least get the 1080p IPS. The base model TN panel is horrible. I got the OLED and that's kind of the catch for me.
