@@tashwuzhair I took it as they made extra side money selling a few parts that are needed in the black market. I hope they get into more detail in the second season 🙏 😩
@@tashwuzhair Few of them were selling organs and making more money secretly in their own. Why would you need an explanation for this…? It’s so obvious and simple to follow along.
Gi-hun entered the games with the widest smile but with no money; he left the games billions of Won richer, yet he's at his most miserable-which is such a tragedy. And Gong Yoo should play more villain roles.
@@vain6312 the recruiter that enticed Gi-hun to play the blue and red paper. He only had a special appearance in Squid Game. He’s an amazing actor, he played in Train to Busan.
Ali’s death just proves how harsh reality is, that people take advantage of kind hearted people, he was my favorite character, he was a literal innocent cinnamon roll, he could have just left Gi Hun to die in the first game but he didn’t, he saved his ass, and on the marble game, he could just leave and win but no, he considered Sangwoo’s suggestion because he valued their ‘friendship’ goddammit Ali why must you dieee
Absolutly True. But i Must admit That i had tears When the old person had gi in his arms and said Its alright no problem..😭 we couldnt knew what type of Person he was..
If the situation is different then the both of them would surely be alive, again he doesn't have a choice, why do you think he chose ali to a partner game? Because he trusted him and they know each other, the game is just a rigged and twisted because if he know the rules i doubt he choose ali for a duet game
the fact that the old man voted to stop the game in the earlier episode but still they all came back it shows how he gave them a chance and everything it makes much more sense now after the ending
@@chibichan9586 the old files mean that this game has been going on for a while, so the old man naturally has had plenty of time to study humans and how they work. he probably knew that many people would still want the games to continue
@@chibichan9586 because he wanted people to leave if they wanted too, all he cared about was having fun... he even said at the end everyone had the chance multiple times to stop playing the game and ultimately chose to comeback and play so it was on them
@@chibichan9586 To make the people realize how miserable their life is and how much they really need the money so they will try their hardest to win it he basically tricked them by stopping the first game
@@chibichan9586 lots of theories on the old guys mindset of that choice. But judging from his personality of constantly seeking humor and fun, there is a good chance he voted no so that others will have a choice instead of forcefully making half of them play. In other words, rather than following the easy yet boring route he took the risk of letting people make their own choices, purely for the fun of it and to prove that he is right about people. I might be pulling this out of my ass tho.

the twist of the game in episode 6 had me shook where everyone picked someone theyre close with but then learned they had to play against each other it was such a sad episode too :(
This was one of the few things I saw coming. I noticed that the three main characters picked the side characters of the show (or at least not as important as the main three) as partners. Thats when I knew they would be the ones to survive this game and the partners would die
Ali’s death probably had me the saddest So messed up how he went Probably my favorite character Also the husband & wife who ended up having to go up against each other…resulting the husband hanging himself Brutal I know there’s some controversy on why both of them were there together in the first place But that shit still cut deep The human emotion this show makes you feel is unreal
This show has real life lessons on lessons . I was very surprised and impressed with this show . The lesson I got from Ali is to never trust 100%, you can trust a little bit but not all the way, it’ll get you killed - this also translates to real life
@@EverythingIsNothing4 tea, the men were sexist as fuck I was over it. SAMEE!! that’s when I started bawling my eyes for the first time in this show, and it got worse when ali died and il nam breaking out of character and giving the last marble to gi hun. Damn it my eyes were hella puffy after that frkn marble scene.
How was that part the saddest? not only was it predictable, it's as cliche as it gets... Now, being betrayed by someone you considered a good person and your friend, while you are trying to save him.... That shit is sad.
@@Vradica just bc it’s predictable doesn’t it mean it won’t break you. The part where it is predictable that one of them will die is already heart breaking, let alone witnessing that to happen. And Ji Yeon kept talking to Sae Byeok about going out together of that damn game and going to Jeju do and doing lots of things as friends. But both of them know it won’t happen. I already sense Ji Yeon will die bc she kept saying she doesn’t have a reason to use that money, and she sacrificed her life for it, for someone who has more reason to do so. We already know but its still stings so damn much and we just can’t help but bawl. Sorry but I ain’t no tough nut.
I was hoping that Gi-Hun would have distributed part of his cash prize to Ali's family as well since Ali saved his life in the very first game. It's rather unsettling to see Sang-Woo's family receiving such a huge share of the prize while Ali's family members are still trapped in poverty and hardship after seeing Sang-Woo heartlessly betray Ali who trusted him so much and was so kind to him. Hope Gi-Hun remembers Ali and fairly compensates Ali's family in the next season.
I've been wondering if Gi-Hun even knew anything about Alis family. Or if Ali mostly spoke to Sangwoo? Would be interesting to see if they would catch up on Alis Storyline
I don't think he will. Gi-Hun didn't have a strong enough connection or sentimental Intell on Ali to care or pay any mind. And that is because Sang-Woo got in the way and formed their own bond as did Gi-Hun and the girl did. So he doesn't know much about his situation to pay any tribute especially after Sang-Woo betrayed him, he didn't know that either.
The saddest death to me was either 240's or Sae-byeok. 240's death was very sad for me because she gave up her life for Sae-byeok after talking with her for half an hour. Sae-byeok's death was also very sad because her brother was now alone and he didn't know where she was. Those are the only 2 times I cried in the show...
I might be over thinking, but the horse racing was foreshadowing a hint for the winner of squid game. The 2 horses that were close to the finish, at the final race, were numbered 8 and 6. Sung-woo's number ended with an 8 and Gi-hun's number ended with a 6. Not sure if this has been brought up before, but I think it makes sense.
This is the type of film where everything you see has a purpose/meaning if it isn't a mistake. You're probably right considering how recurring themes to foreshadow what happens is a common thing in this show. A lot of the major characters deaths has been foreshadowed.
Just a little trivia all of their deaths are actually foreshadowed in the beginning. Dok su jumped off the bridge and that’s how he died; Ali robbed his boss’ s money and he died because Sang woo stole his marbles; Sang woo tried to kill himself before but he ended up killing himself; Saebyeok tried to kill the guy who scammed her by pointing a knife onto his neck and she died with a neck stab wound; and lastly Gi-Hun swear with his mom’s life , after the game his mom died. What a brillant storyline! And also leaves you thinking of possibilities and what’s gonna happen next. Hope that there are big twists on season 2
The Director of Squid Game said in an interview "I wanted to create a sense of connection between nostalgic games we (Koreans) played in our childhood and the sense of never-ending competition that modern adults feel" He added "There's an irony in our most beautiful and innocent memories being changed into the most horrifying reality"
Man what a spin on the innocent childhood games I grew up playing!! AND ALIIIII.. They did him so wrong my heart dropped.. He was one of my favorite characters 😭😩
I was honestly bawling my eyes out for almost every death after the marble games, even for Sang-woo when i realised that he wasn't the villain, but simply a victim of the harsh circumstances thrust upon him.
My god. My fiance and her mom religiosity watch AHS and it makes me cringe. They made me watch AHS 1984 with them and I couldn't take it anymore. It was so rediculous. I felt like it was written by a child.
The old man thing didn’t kind of make sense cuz what If he actually did mess up and the other players saw he was not killed. Like how was he be able to pass all the games
I was suspicious of the old man the whole season honestly he came around to much and knew way to much about how to survive every game especially when he kept running after everyone was gunned down in the first game with a smile on his face. I instantly said “dementia don’t work like that 🤣🤣” mans completely ignored the mass murder happening
That was my first red flag, the way he ran in the first game after the shooting but I thought okay he's crazy, but when he was shot after the marbles game I realised I didn't hear him fall like everyone else.
i knew sang woo was gonna turn out to be a villain when he didn't say anything to gi hun in the sugar honeycomb game even though he had knowledge about the game beforehand
@@nyonahsturridge5239 yeah and ali was so pure like he didn't realize he was betrayed at all until he saw those rocks it broke my heart :( but it shows you can't really trust anyone it was basically a survival game at that point
@@maddy4690 Honestly I don’t think Sang woo was really “evil.” He had his redemption in the squid game when he kills himself. I believe sang woo killed himself out of selflessness rather than selfishness, he realizes his wrongs and kills himself so Gi Han can win, that’s why he asks him to take care of his mom.
Aye fuck his kid, one of the first things she brings up in the phone call is her present, this makes it almost certain she was the old man this whole time, Duh!

@@allylieu6960 maybe its not their acting that was bad but the lines they were given? their dialogue felt very forced and cringey which i agree is meant to show ignorance/privilege but something was not right for me
Ali's death was definitely depressing. It shows how horrible humans can actually be and use somebody for their own advantage. I absolutely love Sang-woo's character, it's real, it's awful, and a lot of people have a similar personality like him, even if they don't want to admit it (besides the killing, of course)
Or with the killing. Insurance, elderly abuse, negligence, cold and homeless people, food insecurity (all of that is someone’s job). It’s all indirectly killing people but more morally complicated and harder to avoid than shooting them.
@Kpop Top 5 ikr? People hate him because he betrayed ali, yes it's mess up but come on, if he only know the rules then why the hell would he pick him? He pick him because ali is smart and trustable, it's just that the game is rigged and twisted 🙄 well that's there opinion. But i just hate those snowflakes who hate the guy who betrayed ali because he's a foreigner? Nationality is out of the question here, your life is on the line here, ugh hate those snowflakes assuming people
@@mamen6486 Keep in mind he tried to kill Gi Ali and the old guy in the second round. He could've told them the second game but made them split up. And he picked the easiest shape.

@@palestineViper no shit Sherlock. These stories are made to resemble an emotional connection to the characters. People like Ali get screwed over, shows how good doesn't always win
@@Bunny11344 yeah i cried for the old man, the young marble girl, and ali. Well the old man being alive and being the manipulator is a whole twist lmao
I loved the show but the ending was just.. smh. Letting down his daughter yet again. He could have went to see her THEN gone to deal with the game masters. I also wish he wouldn’t have waited so long to help 067’s brother. He promised her and waited a year before even going to see him, just terrible. Poor boy was sitting there for a year waiting for his sister to visit him not knowing what happened.
Yeah I felt the same way. Maybe a slight plot hole because it didn’t seem to match his character. He was very empathetic… well selectively empathetic since he mooched off of his mom and didn’t seem to care at all. His character is actually kind of strange.
Yeah but at the same time, this man had to deal with not only losing all the people he was close to in the game but his mother as well. Also, seeing all that death at once is bound to trigger some PTSD he had to sort through
All the character's death were already foreshadowed in Episode 2. Ali is eliminated because sang-woo took his marble the same as he took his boss money. Deok-su jumped on the bridge and was eliminated in the game by falling off the bridge. Sae-byeok die because she was stabbed on her neck same as she threatened someone with a knife on their throat. Sang-woo almost commit suicide in the bathtub and was eliminated from the game by killing himself. Also, the old man died from a brain tumor. Gi-hun swore on his mother's life, and his mother died in the end. Wow.
Kinda random but I just want to put it out there that I don't think the police officer died when he was shot and fell. He was shot around his shoulder area which I assume didn't hit any of his vital organs. It showed him falling back off the cliff but we didn't get a full scene of him hitting the water or finding his body which makes me think he may have fell and somehow survived. I dunno I just don't think they wrapped it up yet.
I don’t think Joon-Ho (the cop) is dead. Front man deliberately shoots him in a non-lethal way, and we never see his body. I am sure he will play a crucial role in season 2, which will most definitely happen
+1. If theres one thing we can learn from past dramas, its that if theres no body shown after someone gets shot, means theres a possibility they are still alive somewhere
@@juanamorales7506 And was that entire one year shown to the viewers? I don't think so. It's a form of deceptive storytelling done by many past scriptwriters - just watch.
Read another theory from the comments above, that said In-Ho (frontman) intentionally shot him on the shoulder in hoping he was still alive, while he originally being in the game to discover more about the game (since he also joined few years ago) and giving the sign to his brother to help him. They somehow thought about another theory like, what if 001 was just a bait, what if their parents were on this? That's why In-ho is still there to dig in. Haha idk.
@@dxvana I think Inho was also like Gihun. After winning, he probably wanted to go back to stop the games. However, some things happened and he became the heartless "Front Man" that he is. He gave his other kidney to his brother, so I think he was previously empathetic.
The old man is smart for deciding to stop the game at first because people will realize how much they need that money.. I already found it weird that the old man came back too
i think it was because he could now say "you weren't forced to play" on them. Like they didn't know they were gonna die so they obviouslyt felt forced into the games but he ended it so people who didn't want to die in the games didn't have to play them and those that came back knew what the consequences were so they were never forced to play them.
What's really funny is that all the games are literally drawn in the players' room, for everyone to see, that is, everyone could see what the games would be.
it was an emotional roller coaster. I cried so hard during the marble game. My friends and family have not seen it. I have no one to talk to about it except the comment section.
Remember the guy who was paired with his wife in the marble game.We know that if everyone votes and quit the game the money is sent to the families of deceased ones. The fact that he was urging everyone to vote and quit after the marble game shows how perspective plays a role throughout the series. Some see his decision as a symbol of love for his wife and some see it as a symbol of greed. Same goes in life too. Our perspective decides our opinions.
He still let his wife die though.. If he cared that much, he would chosen to die with her like SangWoo said. He chose too live and let his wife die than he couldn't live with the guilt.
The last episode where Il nam bets on no one saving the homeless guy is the reasoning behind why he created the squid games. That, and because ultra rich people are bored. He thinks these bottom feeders are scum and no one will save them anyways. So he thinks the game is justified despite all the blood shed because they would’ve died anyways. He may even feel heroic that he is giving them a chance to take back their life. When gi hun saw that passerby actually coming back with the cops (as opposed to robbing the homeless guy), his conviction that the games are morally wrong became stronger.
He just wanted to have fun, and the deaths were semi justified he gave everyone a chance to stop playing multiple times and they chose to comeback and play knowing they could die. The homeless man def was a setup so mc would get out of his mindeset of doing nothing and living at the bottom but rather to get up and help people
@@silentscopez1364 What about all the people that died in the first game? And what if the majority had voted to continue the games? If 101 of 200 people vote to keep going, the other 99 never had the choice. And that most likely happened in earlier games. Either way it was still cruel and even those who made the choice to come back, did they really have a choice? Most of them needed the money to survive or for their family to survive
@@dumbass6532 they all signed a form saying they wanted to play from the start... and just because they needed the money doesn’t mean they didn’t have a choice to comeback whether they were broke or not they all called willingly and waited to get picked up... that is a choice
I never thought games like Tug of War or Stepping stones could lead to this kind result, I loved Gi-hun, the guy literally tried to help others even when didn't have enough, Sang woo though not so much I mean he was being strategic and smart which was good but what he did to Ali really wasn't ethical, Jun-ho is definitely coming back in the next season cuz he was shot on his shoulder and when Inho first saw Jun-ho in the tunnel he must've made some arrangements for his brother, both brothers shot each other on the left shoulder and I didn't like Mi-nyeo that much, but her banter with other players really made me laugh. Jun-ho once find out who the crazy guy was but now he knows Gi-hun and they're literally gonna band together for the next season.

Ali could have killed him then and there but he tried to save both of them, and he needed it more. Sangwoo is just selfish.
Episode 6 is one of the best I've ever seen. Crazy how people like Ali don't have much backstory but their death felt so bad people like myself who can't remember the last time they've cried from TV/Movies bawling their eyes out
I cry for the 2 girls finally opening up to someone elts probably in their whole life. The show really hits home, no wonder 4.4million new Netflix subscribers joined to watch Squid Game!
funny enough the girl's death was the one that really got to me, despite barely been in the series. She was all alone in the world and when she finally found a friend one of them had to die. And then the way she cried when saying "thank you for playing with me" really hit me
There's a great parallel between Gi-hun's game with the mysterious man and the whole story. At first, he played with the mysterious man knowing he can have a lot of money by winning once, but if he loses, he gets slapped. He lost a lot of rounds, changing his motivation. Once he won against the mysterious man, he forgot about the money. He just wants to slap the mysterious man back. And like the ending of season 1, he does not care for the money anymore. He lost his mother and his friends. He was betrayed. Gi-hun will join the game again to get revenge.
@@sabrinaikhana5380 i literally feel like he will join the game back as one of the men in the pink suits, which is why i think that’s why he changed his hair pinkish-red.
Go back to when she dies : over the pa speaker, the lady doesn’t say “player 67 is eliminated”. And remember : when you don’t see someone being killed very clearly on screeen (aka explicitly shot) then you can’t say they’re dead for sure. We saw it with 001, 212. We can assume 199, 67 and 29 aren’t officially dead. I’m not as certain for Ali though
Yeah, I also cried hard in that part. But after finishing the whole series, I guess that wasn't really anything to cry about since he won't be killed as he is one of the co-founders/VIPs lol
@akanksha x I was dropping heavy tears! And it's weird because she wasn't a character I would've thought I'd be attached to because she was only showed the game before, the tug of war but I guess after hearing her story and seeing how 067 was so upset that she basically didn't even try to play, I stayed crying before I knew it
Sang-Woo was only playing the game to actually survive to the end so was Sae-Byeok . they were one of the few who recognized very early on that there would only be 1 winner which means at some point they would have to betray someone. Sang-Woo let Gi-hun pick the umbrella so that he wouldn't have to kill him personally in the later rounds (he still sorta had a heart), but also because if you want to survive sharing information when it doesn't benefit you is not smart. he also chose to get close to Ali, doing him multiple favors to build his trust, because he was strong but uneducated and too trust worthy. Everyone would have expected Sang-Woo to pick Gi-hun for the marbles game but he didn't because unlike everybody else he did the math and recognized that there is a possibility that the game could be a 1v1, not wanting to betray his friend unless he absolutely had to, he went for Ali because again he is strong but not the smartest and doesn't know any of the games which makes him a no-brainer without exposing his strategy to everyone. Squid game is brutal and to win you need to leave your humanity at the door, the fact that Gi-Hun is the one that won is basically a miracle, even the old man didn't think he'd survive. remember he was directly saved by someone 4 out of the 6 games (Ali, Oh Il-nam, the dude who begged him for 1st spot, and Sae-Byeok told him which tile to jump on after he had forgotten)
Exactly. Very good pickup on the reason Sang-woo picked Ali over his friend Gi-hun - not a lot of people on this comment section get this. It was primarily about choosing someone he knows he could manipulate (and in fact cultivated trust and gullibility for this express scenario), but a little part of him still had a shred of human decency towards his childhood friend so he didn't want to have to finesse Gi-hun right then and there.
The old man did that to save his own life and new the people on his side was good people, he let his friend lie to him but could see the humanity in his lie. He picked 0456 and picked correctly, sun-woo turned after Ali and of course killing the girl at the final dinner. The ending was perfect the main character didn't kill his best friend or anyone in fact his hands where clean. I love the series and find it pretty real to real life, in that situation I believe following the rules would be the only way to live.
When the riot broke out and the old man got on top bunk saying they should stop killing each other and work together, I thought Front Man had felt bad lol. No, he was just listening to his boss
I thought it was interesting how all of the games were drawn on the walls the whole time. Just hidden behind those beds. All of those tricks to find out what the next game was and it was there the whole time.
In the second episode there is a montage where every player is waiting for the van to re-enter the game. This montage shows every person waiting for the van, entering it and getting hit by knock out gas, except for the old man who is not gassed. This was an early hint to his real identity.
There was also once scene in red light, green light where the robot did not count the old man as green or red but it was very fast so not everyone can see it
other hints 1. old man having fun in the first game 2. the first number in the files the detective found was 002 old man 001 was not there (sorry for the bad english)
I knew the old man was suspicious when he was the only person who didn’t fall over when they tipped the beds. Also during the whole marble scene, they never showed him getting shot while everyone else did.
I'm wondering what would happen to the old man if they lost that game with the rope, they could fake a shot in the marble scene, but what about rope...
Really had me hurt inside when Gi-Hun comes homes richer but lost pretty much everyone who was apart of his life. His mom having health complications and when he comes home she’s gone. A heartfelt moment was when he met cheol and gives Sang woo’s mother the money he got from the game.
I was initially disappointed with the ending as it felt like it was like the typical "hah it was me! Dio!" kind of twist, and then I realised it has been hinted in my eyes all along. Saw on a tiktok that on the first game, the old man was not even scanned in Red Light Green Light, and in the Tug Of War game, he already had a strategy. When he was introduced, he was the only character that was playing not for money and/or running away from debt. And perhaps lastly, during the culling moment, the "referees" stopped the culling when the old man stood on the most top and was pleaded for everyone to stop. Might be more but its funny how it took a while for me to realise that it was not a random twist that happened and it had been foreshadowing from the episode that he was introduced the whole time. Genius.
yeah, a lot of people are listing moments I did not even realize were foreshadowing! That's amazing! I do remember thinking it was strange that we did not see him get shot in the marble game or hear him fall, but I brushed it off b/c I was mainly happy not to have to see that after feeling very sad about it haha
I did notice those hints as well except the one from the first game. I dunno, maybe I had watch too many things with plot twist that you can expect anything to come by lol. But still a refreshing and well elaborated twist.
& the fact he was number 1, I didn't guess it until he got the card & thought it was a little silly, but perhaps it would be better if I rewatch it knowing who he is
Ali's death was BS. Sang-Woo didn't 'Win' the marbles, because he played a game that Ali didn't agree to. Him and Ali agree to a set of rules, he then refused to play that game. Therefore Rule #2 of Squid Game, Sang-Woo should have been eliminated. Also, by this means he gained an unfair advantage, and the squid game is about equality. Sang-Woo should have been eliminated for cheating.
The rules were simple, both players needed to agree on the game and they had to get ALL of their marbles. By giving his marbles to Sang-Woo, he is agreeing to their game type.
@@ksnndnfr6101 Haha true. But If Ali made it through, would've possibly been 3 people in the final, and they all just vote to leave. Or could've been good twist ending to see him switch from friendly to evil. Haha
i dont know how but i predicted that player 001 was the kingmaker mastermind in episode 3.....bollywood typical drama experience helped i guess ...i loved the series except the ending with how pathetic player 456 was even after winning...man i would have loved a few minutes of him spending the money
I don’t understand the ending. Gi-hun had 1 month to pay off his debt but Il-Nam said that he didn’t use any of the prize money when they met again. How did he sort out the situation with the loan sharks then?
Yeah Ali’s death plus when I thought the old man died got me. Especially when the old man called him out for tricking him the whole time. But the moment when Ali realizes they’re rocks instead just such emotion conveyed on screen. Even the girl was tragic. All great performances.
I hope some people stop justifying that old man's actions, he literally made this game that has been happening for years for his and his rich client's entertainment. I've seen an alarming amount of people defending him arguing that he gave them the choice to not play the game but think about it, did he actually? he knows these people are desperate to get out of debt and poverty. He knows when they got out of the game and come back to their miserable life outside, they'll become more determined to win and actually try to win which then making it more entertaining for him and his rich clients. So yeah don't justify that man, if he really wanted to help them he will not murder them.
it is a big ethical question but idk man its a hard one .I dont think its as easy as saying he knew they would come back. Its like yeah he knew but he didnt exactly force them to come back did he ?
He's obviously not ethical but he gave them a chance they wouldn't have in the real world. They would die in indignity anyway. That's how he saw it and that's why they chose to come back. In the games they might win. In real life they never would. The problem is they shouldn't have been put in this position in the first place. It's a society-wide problem.
buu- huu- we liv in society. distributing 1 million euro/dollar or whatever else strong currency wont change a single thing for anybody, if wealth really is the problem. Because, it is a matter of Education & the upbringing that determines, wether or not you're going to have a bright future, or crawl through dirt all your live. The Old man did offer a chance to otherwise Hopeless people. A small hope of getting out of dirt. But, the downside was death upon failure. It was Consentual. Would you play russian roulette, if your chances of dying are 1 in 5 or 1 in 6 trigger pulls? and everytime your gun doesnt go off, you get 1 million dollar. Would you play? Same thing.
There were a lot of aspects to consider in this series. Most of which were social aspects in Korea (illegal, foreign workers and how they are treated, how women and old people are viewed, phishing scams and their victims, selfishness/selflessness of strangers/bystanders, etc.), and I love how they used traditional childhood games to decide whether you are freed from those "evil" factors you face in adult life. That last 5 minutes of the last episode were everything for me. Gi-hun may have never known who the old man was if he had not bought the flower to help the lady out... This again shows that there was still human inside of him a year after the game. When the Front Man advised Gi-hun to get on the plane instead of coming back for the game, we can safely assume that he was thinking about his past self about how he left his family (in this case, his brother, Jun-ho the detective) and how he regrets doing so. This series probably had the most pairs of elements that contrasted each other both in short run and long run. Can't wait for season 2 if it comes out.
I took the front man telling him to get on the plane differently. For me it seemed more like "a good citizen is a quiet one" type of deal. Like he is asking Gi-hun to "make this easier for all of us" and just forget about the games. Give into the greed and selfishness that has been tested in Gi-hun and the other players the whole show.
@@katien3022 yes, that’s also a good possibility of an explanation. Also, I found out by reading other people’s comments; the reason 456 won was because the world only remembers 1, 2, and 3. I thought this was very interesting as it is very true in many countries.
@@banhandleusernames Umm... the "1, 2, 3" explanation doesn't really make sense to me. Why would the world "remember 1, 2, 3"? What does that even mean? Like first, second, third place? But then what would that have to do with the show and Gi-hun in particular? I know you're not the one who came up with this theory - just pointing out how it seems to be a stretch with no real good reason to justify the significance of "1, 2, 3".
another thing I realized is I feel like the reason Gihun cares for the old man so much is not because its the main characters sticking together plot, but i think he sees the old man as a chance to make up the broken relationship he had with his own mom that was that same age.
@@beewest5704 I think you are correct, in the first episode where Gi hun took the credit card and put in his birth date and didn't register, but in fact it was his daughters birthday, then in marbles when il nom started talking about his sons bday, I have to go back and look at the exact number he put in for the credit card and go back to marbles to see if those dates match
@@luigiborza8431 He put in 0426. The Oldman said his sons birthday is near the 24th but in the last episode G-hun said his bday is Oct 31st 1974. I never thought he could be referring to his daughters bday. I could have sworn he said it was his birthday when he put the pin in the ATM. Now I'm confused.
Something i would say about the ending as well is that it's paralleled to the birth of his daughter. Gi-Hun to me epitomes the good in humanity and such as he missed the birth of his daughter because of someone that was dying in the factory he was working at, he now is giving up seeing his daughter to save these people from the squid game. Life and death, you can't have one without the other and ultimately I feel like that's what this fantastic show comes down to.
I still think that it's a bad ending. You can finally offer your child a good life and you decide to risk yours once again for the small chance of stopping the people who carry the Squid Game? It just doesn't sound believable and I definitely couldn't take him seriously with that hair lol
@@ParadoX-os yeah I do agree with you to an extent. believe me I was praying he'd get onto the plane 😅 but I thought about it and remember what il-Nam said on his deathbed about not enjoying life when you have too much money. Possibly the reason why Jun-Ho's brother returned to work for the squid game. I think Gi-Hun needs answers and closure more than anything, especially when Il-Nam couldn't tell him why he was the only one that survived. I think its poetic that in order to get into heaven (a place of self-retribution and closure) he needs to go back to hell. I also liked the red hair. Really shows his change of mental state after being miserable for so long. His vibrant red hair gives off a much better energy then his dark shaggy hair.
@@TheBradReaper But he got the answers he needed. He wasn't picked to survive. It was luck and hard work. Simple as that. It would make sense if the cop was alive and joined the Squid Game to bring them down. Honestly if he is gonna go back in the game the next season after managing to win and stay alive, they might as well kill him.
Squid Game is a true sequel to Bong Joon Ho's Parasite. The theme are exactly the same but the executions are different and both are masterpiece in their own right.
Squid Game is much more obvious about the metaphore though. What was so good at parasite was how subtle the symbolism was. Not that I don't like Squid game, I think it's really good
@@localkauf Agreed. I would like to add that Squid Game also have subtle symbolisms and commentary about Korean society as well if you really look for it. For example, the ending when the person that help the drunk guy is implied to be a foreigner (hair color is orange/red hence our protagonist ended up dyeing his hair red at the end because he was inspire by that person to do good), it is believe that "most" Korean would not go out of their way to help a drunken stranger, it does not say Korean people as a whole are cold hearted but from their history and experiences they know that sometimes being a good Samaritan does not end well for them.
@@michaelnguyen8121 As a korean i dont think that was the intended symbolism at all.. many koreans dye and bleach their hair so dont usually associate dyed hair with foreigners. and ive been looking at a lot of korean discussion threads on SG and the meaning of the ending scene. None of them interpret it this way.. the two main theories are 1. His hair was colored so we can recognise its the same man who came by just before 2. His hair is colored bc he will be a character that will be introduced in season 2 (so we+/ gihun can recognise him)
I disagree, glad you enjoyed it but for me it was a flop. Was expecting more the executions were lame either get shot or head trauma. Would have liked it if the execution were more like Saw.
Honestly I’ll be pissed if he enters himself in the games again, that would be the worst way you could continue this story. I was completely 100% on board right up until the plane bit, the very last scene, the arch of him being a real father to his daughter feels like it gets tossed aside and it kind of feels like he ends up right back where he started in the first episode, right after doing all that good. I kind of get it, the weight of knowing all those people will die again would eat away at him when he knows he might be able to do something, and it is a selfless act which does complete a character arch in him, it just doesn’t feel like it was the right decision honestly. If he got on the plane it would’ve been in total service of season 1 and wrapped it up nicely, but that very end just felt out of character to me, why would he not finally be a good father given the opportunity. I don’t know it’s a tough one, because I see both sides of the coin and understand both, I just don’t necessarily like one of them.
@@megapurnamasari3685 I really hope not, needs to go in a different direction and the games need to take a backseat to stay at the same level of quality and investment for me. But even then if I just look at it as an 8 hour long story it was great and I don’t really need any more.
There’s the theory that both the players in blue and the enforcers in red are all people in debt coerced into the game- your role depends on which card you pick when you play the game in the subway, blue or red. So based on that, people are theorising he’ll join the game again but as a red player, an enforcer and that’s how he’ll try to bring it down or try to rescue people.
@@getsome8735 if he joins the game again as an enforcer and tries to stop it I’m totally down for that, if he joins as a regular contestant again he’s a terrible father and an idiot.
To give Sang-woo some credit, everything he does is in respect to his goal of getting his mother money. Not only has he resolved to betray and kill others, but even to kill himself in the end knowing that Gi-Hun will get his mom the money. As sad as the Ali death was, he knows that if he doesn't snake him that everything will be for naught; he'll be dead and unable to help his mom with no guarantee that the winner is someone who will either. By the time they're doing the bridge game, I think he has realized that there will likely only be one winner in the end. It was sad to see Sae-byeok die but it was basically a mercy kill given the circumstances... I think Gi-Hun's blind optimism wasn't considering that she'd been bleeding heavily for hours. He did awful stuff but he was the only one who achieved his goal out of all the players, even if he didn't survive.
@@neolings1323 Well it could be seen that way too even tho we all know he wanna stock up the odds to having him and gi hun as the last players. But the reason it could also be seen as “mercy killing” is that, yea, sae byeok was bleeding for hours and was extremely pale and almost lifeless. Regardless if she still make it to the last game she will die either ways unless gi hun protects her and attacks sang woo during the last game. But sae byeok will continue to bleed and no one will treat her and its highly possible she won’t make it out before the games end and also mostly likely that there’s only one winner at the end unless both gi hun and sae byeok agrees to end the game but that will take time bc gi hun needs to kill sang woo first and sae byeok might not push through that long given her injuries. To add more, sae byeok looks like she is extremely weak to even play the game, and the rules said that a person who refuses to play is eliminated. So, sooner or later she still dies at the end😢
@@neolings1323 'basically a mercy kill given the circumstances' was the wording. she had been bleeding for hours from the abdomen and Sang-woo had realized that there would only be one survivor IF they didn't end the game. Ending the game would go directly against his whole character. Not only that, while 462 families would be helped (hurray for the true greater good), Sae-Byeok would likely have died after leaving the game leaving nothing for Cheol. Had they competed, well... that'd be even uglier considering she was passing out from blood loss. She'd pass out then get shot in the head when she lost. Or, considering they weren't shoot Sang-woo, they may have expected Gi-Hun to kill her. And again, Sang-woo's character is rooted in his resolve... it's not a good thing... but I did say that he had resolved to do anything to achieve his goal, including killing people. . boo~ I'm a scary internet person :D
@@neolings1323 Sae Beoyk was so badly injured that she wouldn’t have stood a chance in the final game and so her death was inevitable if the games continued. Sang Woo had to kill her so that Sae Beoyk and Gi Hun didn’t act as a majority and vote to end the game as this would’ve left Sang Woo and his mother with nothing.
@@numbmug What are you doing here spoiling the show for yourself lol. It's one of the greatest masterpieces created. Better go watch it. I suggest start watching early in the day during the weekends because you won't be able to stop until the last episode which is 9 episodes in total lol
The only thing I don’t like about the ending is seeing Gi-hun walk away from his daughter. To me it seems like after winning he’s still not as there for her as he should be. Hopefully I’m wrong because I mean, there is not a lot you can do when your kid’s in another country
well from earlier epis we know the gi hun character who would care about other people first unless his life is on stake. he even missed his daughters birth because when he with his coworkers were on a strike in his first job he had to save one of his coworkers life. so he walking away from boarding the plane is understandable. he was probably thinking about saving the lives of hundreds of people or meeting his daughter which technically can wait.
I agree, but you gotta put yourself in the character’s shoes. He witnessed the death of 455 people. The very last person he fought was from his childhood and he came back to his mother dead. Money can’t solve happiness. He wasn’t in the state of mind to take care of someone else’s happiness. That’s probably why he took a year to take care of Player 067’s brother as well.
@@rihad7833 Spot on. In another comment I saw someone assume he was just walking away from his kid to simply play again, and I genuinely wonder why this is even a theory considering we already know his character and the context implies he wants revenge/ to save hundreds of others from going through the horrors he went through.
I understand both perspectives. From the daughter’s perspective you feel like you’re not important enough for your father. From the other perspective GI-hun is a hero for wanting to save so many people. He saw so many people die and the daughter will never understand the trauma of that. And GI-hun probably won’t ever truly understand his daughter’s feeling of abandonment. Heroes don’t make good fathers. I’ve experienced abandonment so I sympathize with the daughter more, since I never walked GI-hun’s path of witnessing all those deaths
@@DASISFN @rihad alif there’s no doubt he’s a good person, I just know his daughter’s gonna be so disappointed. And she won’t understand why he didn’t get on the plane and not contact her a whole lot :(
I think Gi-hun dying his hair red says "he has blood on his head". He will forever remember all the blood that was shed on behalf of having the chance to win the prize money. With him turning away from the plane to see his daughter, he is at the point of getting answers and is seeking revenge
@@jojonta2119 Tbh I would say it’s more red but I can see why people say pink. Another reason I think red = power though is because in the beginning when Gi-Hun was recruited via that paper game, the papers were red and blue. Gi-hun chose blue which I think signifies his position as a player, in blue, with no power
I was confused why they didn't show what happened between the husband and wife during the marble game, that seems like it would have been great drama to see how they decided the wife would be the one to be sacrificed instead of the husband (I'm assuming she chose to sacrifice herself instead of them playing the game).
Well if you look back in the episode, the minute the game rules were announced and it was said that only one player would survive, she looks at her husband and goes “honey…” and you can tell by the delivery of that simple line, she was suggesting she sacrifice herself already. Plus they weren’t really main characters who were very integral to the plot other than to bring some emotion so yeah there wasn’t much necessity to show their scene when there was already so much going on with the main characters, right?
It leaves 100% of that to the audience imagination! He came back she didn't.. he killed himself so obviously he won that game in the wrong way and felt guilty for it.
Don't get me wrong: I'd certainly watch a Season 2. But...is anyone else out there perfectly fine if the show ends where it did? I kinda like that ambigious ending, honestly. Now, mass popularity (and, of course, MONEY!) is gonna talk here, and I do think we will get another season. If done right, it could be amazing. We'll see. Anyway, I enjoyed the hell out of Season 1. Call me a VIP if you must. ;-)
@@nakiacarter9735 it doesn’t tend like that tho. It shows him turning. Around he’s going to go back and do something or find a way to destroy the game or try
Agreed. Make it so that it's like the ending of "Inception" where we dont know if the top stopped spinning or not. It leaves more to the imagination - the mistery and the perfect end of a character arc. Life is not made of answers, it should be left to the person to decide what happens. It's pretty much a perfect ending that they made, let it stay that way.
I really liked Squid Game! Alice in Borderland is a great companion piece from Japan. South Korea has really been the "It" girl for horror thrillers and I am so in!. Squid Game is a very Willy Wonka meets Battle Royale. Also I love that the main character from Train to Busan is the guy that recruits people in the train station.
I think that gi hun will probably be the next host of the game(seeing the connection he had with the old guy). The front man backstory is yet to be known except he won the game in 2015. S2 will probably explore how he became the front man from just an ordinary guy in debt (same situation as gihun) to winning the game. My guess is that the first half of s2 will be about gihun and the police guy(front man brother) try to stop the game but something happened in the second half of s2. By the end of s2 will probably be gihun becoming the host and the police guy becoming the frontman.
absolute facts. i learnt that no amount of money is worth risking your life for and that there are people in this world who would do anything for money
For me, it was because she was sacrificing herself and her life for her. She was being positive about it and doing it with honor. She was saying i dont have nothing else to live for so go and live for us. It really made me ball and cry
I tried to screen shot the creators mask but it’s no where to be found uuughh because I was like I could just do that it’s an owl I think I’ll just have to bedazzle it and every time I tried to screen shot it from Netflix it’s just a black screen damn it I’ll just have to pause it to make one similar
The 7th floor scene was the 7th game. There was a time, and Ill-Nam lost as he died. Ilnam was absolutely convinced on the selfish nature of humans and that they possessed views that the lives of others was of little significance compared to their gains (which is why he voted for them all to go home as he was convinced they would eventually come back). he probably made a similar bet(probably more elaborate when he wasnt confined to his deathbed) and endowed this ideology to the guy in the black mask when he won in 2015, causing him to forfeit his life(symbolically die) and become devoted to Ilnam and help run the games. I am thinking that the guy in the station with the red and blue tags is another previous winner/devotee that has lost the 7th game to Ilnam. (these are my speculations, the show doesnt really suggest this) But with the case of gihun, he is a broke fool who seems to have a childish innocence contrary to the events surrounding him and it is initially presented as his biggest character flaw. But in essence his character is living proof against ilnams convictions of the world, which is why ilnam lost the final bet. Characters are undone by their flaws If there is an underlying theme in this show, it is that the characters are all undone by their flaws. -After the first game when the characters resume their lives before reentering the game, Sangwoo tries to commit suicide by drowning himself in his tub, he ends up killing himself in the same position with rain falling on his face, his flaw being that he would rather avoid his problems til the end than face them. He is extremely capable and clever but refuses to own up to his mistakes and relies on unethical means to fix them (He would rather commit suicide than confront his mother about his wrongdoings). -Saebyuk threatens the broker at knife point to the neck and she dies with a stabwound to the neck in the same spot, her flaw is her unrealistic/childish expectations (she still takes the broker's words and says she will get the money/her expectations of being with her illegal North Korean parents who have been arrested and sent back/ wanting to live normally with her family which is her motivation in the whole game) -Ali is taken advantage of by his employee and ends up having to resort to using his strength to forcibly take his money and ends up crushing his employer's hands. He dies by sangwoo taking advantage of his naivety and stealing his marbles. His biggest flaw is that he is naïve and too trusting. (it is also implied that he has lost fingers in a similar way while working for the scumbag employer showing how naive he was) -The gangster dude has to jump off a bridge at a dead end of his own making. He dies falling off a bridge treading on glass steps. His flaw is acting wrecklessly for his own gains at the cost of others, only to have it fall back on him. Every single character in the show dies without recognizing and surpassing their flaws, in fact you could say their deaths are their own doing. The Red herring The image in the last round of the games With GiHun fighting Sangwoo with a knife(and sneakily throwing sand in his eyes) is a stark contrast between his character in episode one with his childlike innocence(refer to the smile for his profile). We as viewers assume that he has developed and overcome his flaw to prevail as any main protagonist would And it would have also tied up the social commentary of the show nicely, albiet would have been a tragic one of how growing up in society we often end up abandoning our humanity. The show sets you up to believe that that is the main theme of the show and what is being represented by the game and its participants until the very last moment. but its not with a series of plotwists he tries to forfeit the money to save sangwoo (even though it doesnt work) and it ultimately shows that he remains the innocent protagonist we saw in the beginning at this moment as viewers we get to see that Gihun has not gone through the character development we anticipated. Afterall, most of us had already realized that the last game would be the squid game as shown in the first scene in the show where there could only be one winner and incapacitation of the other player would not be avoidable. But Gi-hun does win. He is the last surviving player yet he has not changed in any meaningful way a protagonist would have to overcome their endeavors, but just ends up as a broken man (the money loses value to him). It is a stark plot twist of its own It is also important to note that Gihun has won the game without killing a single person. His attempt to trick ilnam with the marbles does not get fully realized as being murderous as ilnam points out he knew he was being tricked, just before giving him the last marble as a sign of forgiveness/respect. He beats up sangwoo with murderous intent but ends up forfeitting in an attempt to save him. He swears he will kill Ilnam if he wins the bet but Ilnam draws his final breath upon losing, taking revenge away from him and preserving his "innocence." The true flaw and the real herring Upon rewatching it is clear what Gihun's main character flaw really is and it is further clarified with the last few scenes that his flaw is his drive to get back at those who have wronged him. -When he finally wins against the man in the station, he automatically assumes to hit him when the rules was that he would get money instead. -When he promises not to harrass the girl for his stolen money if she unties him and he falls back on that as soon as she cuts his arms free. - When he realizes Ilnam was the mastermind behind the games he says to him that he will die by his hands if he wins the last bet. -And finally when he stops the new recruit from calling the number by using force and taking the business card from him.Hhe recognizes how much he regrets entering the game himself and how gravely wronged he was by being talked into it. This realization is so strong that he ends up forfeiting his new life with his daughter to find those responsible. The physical representation of change shown as the new hairstyle/color is a red herring to falsely signify that he has gone through a profound transformation as he makes rounds to respect the last wishes of saebyuk and sangwoo. But, it can actually be a representation of his inability to forget the tragic events of the games. The red can be taken as anger/revenge/trauma or some kind of newfound drive or to represent the red color of the game associates or perhaps the red tag to play the slapping game which caused him to join the game. And fittingly, In the Final scene when it is time for Gihun to get his closure, he calls the number and says he cannot forgive them and is seen walking away from the plane(his changed future) as one final plot twist. It is understood then that his story arc is not yet complete, just like all the other contestants he is still driven by his flaw, the game continues, and his end is yet to be seen. On an interesting speculative side note: You could argue that Gihun was more a successful antagonist to Ilnam than he was to him. I believe Ilnam wanted to die playing the games, reliving his childhood innocence that he lost while growing up and accumulating wealth, instead dying alone in his deathbed.(note he would have died if he lost the tug of war and they were all games he played when he was a child) But his encounter with Gi hun and his seemingly preserved innocence/humanity must have touched him in some way, or sparked a newfound interest.(note he says playing with him made him remember things from his distant past that he had forgotten) When Gi hun had one marble left it was up to Ilnam to win as the answer would have inevitably been "odd" and Ilnam would have taken the last marble. But he unimmersed himself from the game that he so desperately set up for himself and let Gihun win, all the while preserving his innocence by not letting gihun win through deception, but by an understanding of mutual respect. And moments before he draws his last breath, he is proven wrong by the kind act of a bystander that turns to help an unconscious man in the streets (note the bystander initially tries to rob the homeless man) Whether Ilnam witnessed and acknowledged that he was wrong is up to the interpretation of the viewers, but if it had been clarified in the show that the losing of the bet changes Ilnam's perspective (regardless of whether he dies after or not) would almost certainly make him a successful protagonist who, throughout the course of the story, is changed. As a viewer i do believe Ilnam's perspective was shifted whether he saw the result of the bet or not because gihun's example had already influenced Ilnam to change his focus from immersing in the game he set up for himself to letting gihun win (perhaps to preserve gihun). The scene shortly after, he is seen removing his vip mask and informing the other vip's that he does not wish to participate in watching the rest of the games. I believe the final game he sets up at the 7th f loor is partially a last desperate attempt before death to prove to himself of his own convictions, only to be proven wrong, making him a true tragic protagonist who lost his humanity as a victim of society only to witness a glimpse of it moments before death or to die stubbornly trying to prove himself right until the last breath.
There are many symbols and metaphors in this series. The first example is that the setting is the story of ruined adults playing the game they already played in their pure days. In episode 7, if you look at the chess piece shaped like a horse on a mini-board, the scene where Gi-hun stole his mother's card and played horse racing in the first episode overlaps. In the final episode, the old man invites Gi-hun and tells Gi-hun just before his death that what the rich and the poor have in common is that their lives are boring. Like VIPs watching death games, Gi-hun, who was gambling, became a chess piece, won, and got everything, but lost his life goal and was wasting his time, and in the meantime, he heard the old man and had a purpose in life. Of course, the cause was anger. But why did the old man invite Gi-hun to the 7th floor of the building, not the penthouse? It's just the right height to observe outside the window, but is that all? Perhaps it was because the day after God made humans in the Old Testament was the 7th? Otherwise, does it mean that the old man is not the final boss, but has more high Siram behind him? What are your thoughts?
ugly adults? lmao but there are some cute characters like that sister with a brother who’s in shelter, and that girl who died in the 4th round allowing the sister to advance
@@Rqblt Sorry, it's a matter of my expression. I'm not talking about appearance, but how much humans can be ruined and dirty in extreme situations. At first, Sangwoo was a person who tried to help when he saw someone in need.
Ohhh my you might just be right the cop was looking for his brother in the files and the files go back years ago what if the old man was actually the first player and someone up above him or others above him like he mentioned his son that it was his birthday and he had to get his gift of the mechanical robot what if his son is somehow involved and what if the cops brother is trying to figure that out that’s why he is still there and they both shot each other in the shoulder as a sighn for one another what if their dad is the upper or is the Morris code guy 😳😳😳😳
Although it turned out the old man was 'evil' I still felt in a way sorry for him, growing old not being able to experience goodness in humanity. To him, the main character was such a rarity and precious. The old man reminded me of myself (only in 30s). I guess I became bitter as I grew older, but I realise I can be a better person before expecting the World to change.
All the old man wants is to have someone to play with him. If he is less lonely, he wouldn’t have to resort to this, but he probably wouldn’t have gotten this lonely if he isn’t a cunning fox who trusts no one in the first place.
@@captlanc After many years of betrayals people can become bitter and distrusting. I'm sure it is even harder to trust once become extremely rich. However, this show taught me that we can still try to choose to be a better person and allow others to trust me first.

@@ryuk5673 that clue being...? I watched it back. Sangwoo accused him of cheating because he didnt want to die and he panicked. At no point did Ali cheat.
@@dra2521 the game they are playing is a 50% chance game. As you know very well from the Glass Bridge episode, the odds of guessing correct every time, is near impossible. (1/2^x) with x being the number of correct guesses. It's heavily implied that Ali is cheating. It is a small detail, probably overlooked it.
I think it should've just ended with him being there for his daughter while using his money to actively try to stop the game by getting officials to investigate. He wasn't believed the first time, but since he's wealthy now and the cop guy told his buddies a part of it before he "died", they'll listen. That way it could be a semi-happy ending considering all the lives lost. (Also, I say "died" just in case by some miracle he survived all that)
Maybe it woudd be possible if they managed to find the cop by tracking him and if he survived then he could tell them what he saw, but then it all depends on wheather the korean police believes him. They can be very incompetent, so idk.
That’s exactly what I was saying. I was so upset he’s so rich he can get people to shut it down. What is he alone going to do in a secure and remote facility? He could have turned everyone’s situations around. Helped all of his friends families. But it’s obvious the ending was to continue the show
I dought that the show will go like that because in the series the games have been going on since 1900 and it still wasn't stopped and the year they was in when playing the game was in the 2000s maybe around 2018/2019/2020/2021
It was a delight to see his cameo. I believe they casted him for a small appearance to bring more viewers in as he's insanely famous in Korea and other Asian countries. Front man was played by another really famous actor called Lee Byung Hun
Tbh I’m not sure he’s actually dead because we never saw his body, but Joonho/the police officers ‘death’ I felt was such a waste. Like he survived miraculously throughout his whole time there, he was consistent and was quick witted and managed to keep many evidence of the game in his phone all the while looking for his brother. But then, just like all the players in the game, it all went to vain.
he'll probably come back in the second season, he was only shot in the shoulder and he fell into the water. Also maybe someone from the police station was able to find him
He must've been super shaken up to find that his brother was responsible for this whole mess. He was able to remain calm and consistent because his every effort was aimed towards saving his brother, it must've been earth shattering to find out you were trying to save someone who didn't want to be saved. He was also a cop, finding out your brother is basically a mass murderer must not have been easy.
@@purpletullip4836 I doubt that, considering a whole year later the operation was still going on. The protagonist had found those two men playing that game at the subway but who knows? Maybe the cops know and are gathering intel.

The thing that had me the most fucked up was the black market for organs. It's so common in Asian countries yet no one barley ever talks about.....It's good to see more shows shine light on it.
As I am Korean, I can definitely say organ black market is NOT common. I have never seen it ever in my life. Black market for organs is frequently mentioned in Aisan movies/dramas but this doesnt mean it is common in these areas. I believe this illegal trade is happening all over the world includi g your country, not limited to Asian countries lol I agree there is bad shit going on but theyre rare, not "so common"
The point of what i said was that it is NOT commom, NOT it does not exist. If it were to be "so common" like the above comment, then it would have been on the news every time. If you want to say normal people wouldnt know if there really is organ black market and if it is common, then how do YOU know as a normal citizen?
the 7th floor where the old man lying is a clear representation of the 7th and or the last game. And there are so many representations and metaphors throughout the series. And also "456" number is a lucky number where it represents financial luck, where also the main character holds it.
honestly i swear something like this is actually happening in the world. the rich of the world would definitely do something like this just for entertainment.
I honestly thought this show was going to be nonsense after the first 20 minutes, but decided to at least watch through the first episode... Best decision EVER 🤓
Things i noticed : 1. The org- seems to be operating worldwide, VIPs mentioned about Korea having the best game, dating back to 1990,meaning the creator might have started it when he was much younger and stronger. Seems in other countries they have different games of deaths as the VIPS were constantly inquiring about the Korean games. 2.Front man: knows a lot about police guns and mentions that 'the police would never be on time' ', maybe he has a grudge towards the police and that's why he didn't hesitate to kill his brother. 3.Old man: hard to draw the line where he acting or being real. (when he's scared and pees in his pants). He is in a risky position because his dementia could have made him spill all the truth on top of being attacked during the night riot.
I strongly agree on the 1st point, but in for the 2nd one, I think that if he actually wanted to kill his brother he would've shot him in the head, not the shoulder, although it could still be a mortal wound, but I'm not sure that he's dead since we never actually saw his corpse, so there's a small chance that he could've survived And about the old man wetting his pants, someone on another comment section said they saw an empty bottle of water besides him, so he might have spilled that on himself when no one was looking as a test to see if anyone helped him, just like he observed the drunk man in the last episode
@@paaaaanda3060 omg i was wondering why he peed and was so frightened by the guards if he's the boss lol that's actually a great point! since he's the creator he knew the game(marbles) beforehand and wanted to test/see who teams up with him in his weakest time/helps him out (tests humanity).
At the beginning, I think the reason Il-nam voted to end the games was so that everyone could truly decide on whether to play or not. He knew they'd go back to a life just as unforgiving as the games, and he wanted them all to recognize that and choose to return themselves. He could have easily voted to continue, but that would run the risk of half of the players not truly giving it their all and being less motivated than when they elected to be there. In that sense, it might be less fun.
The idea there are different games in different countries would be such a great crossover! This show is taking the world by storm, and even had me wondering “if there was a USA version what type of games would they play”. They could do like 4-5 other ones from different countries, and have a crossover episode where winners from each all have to compete
I just realized that the ranking of the masked people is differentiated by the number of sides their mask shape has. Circle being the lowest since it has no sides, triangle, square, the front man as his mask is polygonal in shape, and the game master as his mask is the one with the confetti like material meaning he has the most sides. I don't know if I'm the first one to comment this, but yeah.
@@tsuyuasui7297 It takes about 3-4 hours. If the person in the coffin is not dead, they'll probably be cooked alive for 3-4 hours. It's really one of the most gruesome ways to die. Plus, the contestants were badly injured which makes the pain even more excruciating!
@@deianirawilde4630 I think most of those who were alive ended up under the knife of organ sealers, at least before the doctor died Still horrible way to go
Honestly, I started watching it so I could understand the memes (A reason behind a lot of things I watch/play these days) and I didn't really expect to get much past the first episode as the premise felt a bit 'done' to me but, man it was amazing. It was so incredibly compelling and I knew that I was going to be rooting hard for Gi-Hun as soon as I saw him feed that cat. For me, the biggest heartbreak of Episode 6 wasn't Ali's death or Ji-Yong's death or Il-Nams death (I annoyingly guessed that he was ok when his death was off-screen) for me the thing that really got to me about that episode was seeing Gi-Hun do something bad. As soon as he chose to gaslight Il-Nam, my heart just broke.
Oh Il-Nam invites Gi-Hun to the 7th floor of the building at the end to complete the 7th game. Gi-Hun had played 6 already, and Il-Nam wanted to play one last game with him before passing
The 7th floor to see the homeless guy was a setup. The homeless guy may have been a plant but the person who helped him was definitely a plant. Gi Hun running into the guy in the subway while on the way to the airport also had to be a setup. Gi Hun was still playing their games but he didn't know it.
I was actually surprised how popular this show got. I thought it was gonna be a good show that flew under the radar but I'm glad it didn't. What I really liked about this show was that the circumstances were realistic. Even after witnessing the horrors of the first game and they voted to leave, yet 93% of the people came back to play and I understand why. Hope this gets a season 2! Edit: I'm pretty sure the cop iss till alive. He was only shot in the shoulder.
Koreans have odd notions of firearms. but based on the fact that everyone else shot with a revolver was shot in the head... proof the shoulder shot was intentional and char is alive....
My only quibble being that the cop brother supposedly fell off a steep cliff after being shot in the shoulder. Though of course that does not meant he fell all the way down. Also interesting is the brother that shot him, did not even take a look and see if his brother fell all the way down.

If he had known he would’ve, just like he did with Sae-Byeok’s brother. Ali only ever told Sangwoo about his family.

You might be on to something 👀 nice observation tho because I never noticed that
YOOOO THAT MAKES SENSE
The amount of money he won back in the horse race was also like 4,56million won
The old man made that comparison in the last episode

Remember the guy who was paired with his wife in the marble game.We know that if everyone votes and quit the game the money is sent to the families of deceased ones. The fact that he was urging everyone to vote and quit after the marble game shows how perspective plays a role throughout the series.
There's a great parallel between Gi-hun's game with the mysterious man and the whole story.
Il nam saved him twice in tug of war and in marbles
Omg thank you for seeing this in a rational manner. It's very surprising to me that not a lot of people in the comments see this. It's wild

Ali's death was BS. Sang-Woo didn't 'Win' the marbles, because he played a game that Ali didn't agree to. Him and Ali agree to a set of rules, he then refused to play that game.

Squid Game is a true sequel to Bong Joon Ho's Parasite. The theme are exactly the same but the executions are different and both are masterpiece in their own right.

This is actually a very good observation.
It could also be a power thing since the staff in red had power over the players who wore a blue-green color.
@@stepheroni3255 They were in pink though?
@@jojonta2119 Tbh I would say it’s more red but I can see why people say pink. Another reason I think red = power though is because in the beginning when Gi-Hun was recruited via that paper game, the papers were red and blue. Gi-hun chose blue which I think signifies his position as a player, in blue, with no power
I was confused why they didn't show what happened between the husband and wife during the marble game, that seems like it would have been great drama to see how they decided the wife would be the one to be sacrificed instead of the husband (I'm assuming she chose to sacrifice herself instead of them playing the game).
I guess it’s a storyline the audience would’ve seen again and again so it wouldn’t be that significant
She lost her marbles
It leaves 100% of that to the audience imagination! He came back she didn't.. he killed himself so obviously he won that game in the wrong way and felt guilty for it.
@@zeejay69420 she didn't sacrifice herself because if she did he wouldn't have killed himself!!!!

Characters are undone by their flaws
If there is an underlying theme in this show, it is that the characters are all undone by their flaws.
-Saebyuk threatens the broker at knife point to the neck and she dies with a stabwound to the neck in the same spot, her flaw is her unrealistic/childish expectations (she still takes the broker's words and says she will get the money/her expectations of being with her illegal North Korean parents who have been arrested and sent back/ wanting to live normally with her family which is her motivation in the whole game)
-Ali is taken advantage of by his employee and ends up having to resort to using his strength to forcibly take his money and ends up crushing his employer's hands. He dies by sangwoo taking advantage of his naivety and stealing his marbles. His biggest flaw is that he is naïve and too trusting. (it is also implied that he has lost fingers in a similar way while working for the scumbag employer showing how naive he was)
-The gangster dude has to jump off a bridge at a dead end of his own making. He dies falling off a bridge treading on glass steps. His flaw is acting wrecklessly for his own gains at the cost of others, only to have it fall back on him.
Every single character in the show dies without recognizing and surpassing their flaws, in fact you could say their deaths are their own doing.
The Red herring
The image in the last round of the games With GiHun fighting Sangwoo with a knife(and sneakily throwing sand in his eyes) is a stark contrast between his character in episode one with his childlike innocence(refer to the smile for his profile). We as viewers assume that he has developed and overcome his flaw to prevail as any main protagonist would
And it would have also tied up the social commentary of the show nicely, albiet would have been a tragic one of how growing up in society we often end up abandoning our humanity. The show sets you up to believe that that is the main theme of the show and what is being represented by the game and its participants until the very last moment.
but its not
with a series of plotwists he tries to forfeit the money to save sangwoo (even though it doesnt work) and it ultimately shows that he remains the innocent protagonist we saw in the beginning
at this moment as viewers we get to see that Gihun has not gone through the character development we anticipated. It is a stark plot twist of its own
It is also important to note that Gihun has won the game without killing a single person. He swears he will kill Ilnam if he wins the bet but Ilnam draws his final breath upon losing, taking revenge away from him and preserving his "innocence."
The true flaw and the real herring
Upon rewatching it is clear what Gihun's main character flaw really is and it is further clarified with the last few scenes that his flaw is his drive to get back at those who have wronged him.
On an interesting speculative side note:
You could argue that Gihun was more a successful antagonist to Ilnam than he was to him.
I couldn’t have articulated this any better 🙌🏽

Excellent analysis!!

But then, just like all the players in the game, it all went to vain.
he'll probably come back in the second season, he was only shot in the shoulder and he fell into the water. Also maybe someone from the police station was able to find him
Rule of thumb is if they don't die on screen they aren't dead. That is how I knew the old man was gonna come back.
He must've been super shaken up to find that his brother was responsible for this whole mess. He was able to remain calm and consistent because his every effort was aimed towards saving his brother, it must've been earth shattering to find out you were trying to save someone who didn't want to be saved. Welcome to the club
Things i noticed :
I strongly agree on the 1st point, but in for the 2nd one, I think that if he actually wanted to kill his brother he would've shot him in the head, not the shoulder, although it could still be a mortal wound, but I'm not sure that he's dead since we never actually saw his corpse, so there's a small chance that he could've survived
And about the old man wetting his pants, someone on another comment section said they saw an empty bottle of water besides him, so he might have spilled that on himself when no one was looking as a test to see if anyone helped him, just like he observed the drunk man in the last episode
The old man reminds me of my grandma, no way to know if she's trolling or not
@@paaaaanda3060 omg i was wondering why he peed and was so frightened by the guards if he's the boss lol that's actually a great point! since he's the creator he knew the game(marbles) beforehand and wanted to test/see who teams up with him in his weakest time/helps him out (tests humanity).

I prefer for them to showcase Korean culture more. It's their chance to shine.
winners from each games have to compete reminds me of hunger games catching fire🤔
Circle - worker, triangle - soldier, square - leader.
@@lilyraimey3499 thx
Yeah, it makes sense
Great observation
Yeah noticed it too
What I find really unsettling is that some of the contestants were incinerated alive.
Doesn't cremation happen so fast that you basically are dust within seconds¿
@@tsuyuasui7297 It takes about 3-4 hours. If the person in the coffin is not dead, they'll probably be cooked alive for 3-4 hours. It's really one of the most gruesome ways to die. Plus, the contestants were badly injured which makes the pain even more excruciating!
@@deianirawilde4630 I think most of those who were alive ended up under the knife of organ sealers, at least before the doctor died
Still horrible way to go
Honestly, I started watching it so I could understand the memes (A reason behind a lot of things I watch/play these days) and I didn't really expect to get much past the first episode as the premise felt a bit 'done' to me but, man it was amazing.
Imagine he made it to like a round 2 or something like the next stage
^ your comment is giving me escape room vibes, I really hope Gi-Hun will be able to escape them somehow.
@@bobstone3003 omg and what if they pass the second round they become the front man or smth cuz the police guy’s brother who won became the front man
Hmmm
i think you're overthinking it
I was actually surprised how popular this show got.
Its appropriate that both brothers got shot in the shoulder
Yes, I think he's a alive too. He can't have went through all that to not have his and his brothers story developed haha
My only quibble being that the cop brother supposedly fell off a steep cliff after being shot in the shoulder. Though of course that does not meant he fell all the way down. Also interesting is the brother that shot him, did not even take a look and see if his brother fell all the way down.
