As I understand it, the main stars in the film thought it would be an anti-war parody and satire especially as it was filmed during the Vietnam War. However, the Movie Company thought it would become too political and divisive to its main Viewer base and lost audience money and decided it would be a just funny satire and edited it that way. As a result, I believe Clint Eastwood started his own company and starred in his own productions.
The only tanks that were heavily modified from the WW2 era were the T34 soviet tanks that were modified to look like German Tiger tanks. The M4 tanks in this film were ALL correct for the the time period with small modifications (sound speakers, longer gun barrels) to fit the narrative of the film. At the time of the filming of this movie. Some counties still had these M4 tanks running and serving in there military. The M4 tanks in this film were on loan.
7:05 Not true. Those are real Sherman, provided by the JNA and are the same as the ones used by the US Army used during the war. The Tiger was not the real thing, but it's the best fake Tiger I've seen in any movie. Saying they are not accurate representations of WW2 tanks is ridiculous.
The truth is Easteood hated the direction of this film. It's first slated director, Don Siegel, had to drop out because of post production on Two Mulds For Sister Sara. Brian G Sutton came in, altering the tone of the film which became a romp. Still a lot of fun.
Saw it in 1971 at the Drive In ,in Australia ,some people say Oddball was based loosely on German Tank Ace Kurt Knispel, who grew a bit of a beard had a tattoo on his neck and didnt like the SS , would watch it again,[20 times] over that Rubbish ''Fury'' ,lots of unnecessary swearing ,Kellys Heroes and a lot of older good Movies never had foul language ,dont need it ,hear it every day as it is .
Also a Masonic aspect [imo] 3 Tigers ,3 Shermans , various references to 3 and others etc,when approaching the Tiger you have Oddball ,Big Joe and Kelly [the three unworthy craftsman ] going to do a deal ,DEAL with the enemy ,''We are just a private Enterprise operation '' ,When Kelly drops the box of gold there is a triangular piece of glass ? No doubt towards the end of the War ,higher ups in the U.S military/Politicians [Masons] etc ,got away with Nazi Gold and set themselves up for life ,like all crooked Wars and exactly as Big Joe says to the German Tank Commander ''Listen Mack ,we are just soldiers right ,we fight we die,we dont get anything out of it, we dont even know what this war is all about '' ,bout it really
100% agree with the swearing. Just not necessary but I did like Fury simply because there are so few ww2 films out today and I thought it was well done. I can't stand to watch modern day cable tv shows due to the swearing and unnecessary nudity and sex. I remember posting this opinion on a forum once 10-15 years ago and was accused of all sorts of things

The Tiger tanks were remodelled former Russian T34’s. The M4 Sherman’s were post-WW2 Yugoslav Army equipment on loan.
