One of the most succinctly powerful and indeed, perfect pieces of music ever written! I love this version - then again, it is Karajan!

Finally a conductor who actually follows Beethoven's Metronome markings. Spectacular

The size of the orchestra (brass especially) gives it an Orffian sound in the ff blasts, had never seen beethoven like this

You know....I asked a musician friend how they got through the REALLY INTENSE portions. Watch Karajan just before the finial WINDUP and APPOTHESIS. He closes his eyes and goes into AUTO PILOT . I would not be able to function in such an intense atmosphere of BLISS and JOY.......he does.

Probably the most "on the edge" performance of Egmont ever recorded. This huge orchestra teeters on the edge of control, with an intense, barely constrained delivery.
Some may feel this performance is over the top and too much - but you can't argue with its virtuosity and emotional impact.
Not for the faint of heart (or ear).
    Go Beethoven!

I love this performance, but HvK seems to have quite a unique way of moving his arms around when conducting. I suppose the musicians get used to it.
