      You sould try to instal QuadUltraDropawayRest. It can work on recurve bows! Use lighter peep, Maximal peep is lighter, less wight more speed! Try to buy Easton4mm hunting arrows. I think they are about your spine500. You soud ordering the arrows whit X vanes fethers. The Ultra rest works whit litle vanes.

      Easton arrows are the best! I think, you can shot whit EastonBlodline6mHunting arrows. I use CarbonExpressNativBroadheads. Chaep, single blade whit big penetration! Broadheads are big fun. Single blade cut on contact broadheads got the bigest penetration.

      Hey Lilly! Does the release withstand permanent releasing at like 40pounds? (don’t know your setup but looks snappy :p) Compound bows are way easier to hold when pulled & i guess the stress on the release is not as big...

      The arrows your using are to long for your draw

  • @SurvivalLilly
    @SurvivalLilly  4 года назад +53

    Q&A: Some people have noticed that my arrows are too long and that I should cut them off. If I was only shooting these arrows with this bow I would cut them off, but I am using these arrows with other bows as well. With the other bows I need more draw length. Also I don't want to change the spine at my arrows right now. So this is the reason why I dont cut off the arrows in this video :)

    • @OldToughDW
      @OldToughDW 4 года назад +2

      Spine is the arrows ability to flex. with wood arrows it is important because they can break and you can end up with a shaft piercing your forearm or hand (holding the bow). With aluminum too little will cause the arrow to porpoise ruining your accuracy. Graphite is is the worst of both.
      Length is important too in that it gives the arrow a greater weight and slows your arrows speed.
      I never used a sight and even with a sight closing one eye ruins your depth perception, Also you might consider a counter weight so you can relax your grip and not lose the bow.
      24 m is a long bow shot. Who cares what other people think! (or say!) They are not shooting your bow and not in your situation, it is whatever you can hit the bullseyes with accuracy, that counts. When you unscrew your bow you have to tune it again, so both limbs exert equal pressure on the string. So I would recommend a bow that is built as a take-down in a similar draw weight, Happy shooting and hunting.

      Ah Lilly this makes sense to me know. It also makes sense why you are useing the spline size that you are. Dont get to carried away adjusting your sights if you are going to get new arrows for that bow.

    Hi Lilly. I had an idea about pull length consistency. If you removed the stretchy rubber tube and used pure string to orient the peep, then you could set up the bow such that the string would get tight at the same place every time -> pull length would be the same every time. Love your videos.

    As others have said, the D loop being higher than the knock is meaning your anchor is changing when using the Sight and release set up vs fingers and off the shelf….
    Your knock is lower therefore your point is higher and string angle is pushing the knock out at a different angle and that’s why your arrows fly high! :D
    I’m currently building a hybrid bow of my own as I agree compounds are too complicated and too much to go wrong but I would like to utilise the bits of compound archery that can help my accuracy.
    Your videos are great thankyou so much :)

    For some reason, the sound of the bow shooting and the arrow hitting the target is really satisfying.

  • @tmalonso
    @tmalonso 4 года назад +7

    I've gotten a lot of pointers in the last few years at my local archery range, one thing I hear them say all the time is hold your bow up in the air just like you're still aiming the bow until you hear the arrow hit the target, not sure how much this follow through matters, but personally whenever I drop my bow to look at the target while the arrow is midflight instead of using the recommended follow through, my shots either end up following the bow (dropping)...or my groups just become way looser. Usually by then one of the wiser archers will start murmuring "you're dropping your bow" to remind me, so I'm getting better. In my experience, the little pointers I get from experienced archers at my local archery range are just as valuable as paid lessons from an Olympic archery instructor, if not more valuable...no offense to any instructors of course. Sometimes it is the smallest changes that make the biggest overall improvements toward consistency, leave no stone unturned! Best of luck! :)

    You're shooting a 5 pin site. I would try and figure your maximum range and set your lower pin to that range, then divide the range by 5 and set the remaining pins at equal distances. I have the pins on my compound bow, starting at 15 yards and in 15 yard increments out to 75 yards/68 meters, which is about maximum distance for where I hunt. I shoot a bare bow with my recurve, which takes a lot more practice. I shoot longer arrows and heavier tips on my recurve than I do from my Compound for the extra weight which helps with kinetic energy and penetration due to the slower arrow speed. It is all about what works best for you with the equipment that you have. Enjoyed the video, thanks.

    I'm almost positive that using a metal Ultra Noc XL would greatly improve your accuracy with your bow. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000B0FYY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s03?ie=UTF8&psc=1
    along with a few other tricks. (1) Place the Ultra Noc so that the arrow nock fits inside the U shape. (2) rotate the Ultra Noc on the string so that it is inline with the peep sight, then lock it down so the sight aligns with your line of draw, this will eliminate the need for the rubber tube and the string you are using. Cut off the stem on the sight that the rubber tube attaches to. The added weight of the metal Ultra Noc will be compensated for with the removal of the string nock, the brass nocking point marker , the rubber tubing and string and metal eyelet you now have on the bow plus cutting off the stem from the peep.. Some people claim the metal Ultra Noc XL makes more noise. I'm sure there is some minute noise increase compared to a bare string, but not near as much as the rubber tubing snapping back and flopping around against the bow limb. You can always use string silencer whiskers, I prefer 1/4 inch strips of rabbit fur about 6 to 8 inches long wrapped around the string. (3) Get rid of the extra pins on your sight. They will tend to confuse anyone when you have to make a quick shot. Set the pin for the longest range you are comfortable shooting at and simply aim a little lower at closer ranges. Your mind can judge the range a lot quicker than your eye can choose and verify the correct pin. (4) If you have trouble with reaching the same draw length each shot you might want to try a kisser button. It will ensure that the draw is exact for each draw. (5) I noticed you seem to have 3 arrows in a tight group and a stray or two. Try eliminating the stray arrows the next couple of rounds to see if the same 3 arrows are more accurate than the strays. All arrows do not fly exactly the same. Google Paper Tuning and give that a try if you haven't already. (6) I used to practice shooting coke bottle caps at 20 and 30 yards. It narrows down your focus on a target that small. Even if you never hit the cap it will force your focus on a smaller area. It all comes down to FOCUS and MUSCLE MEMORY.
    If you only practice shooting at a 12 inch circle, then all you will every hit is a 12 inch circle.
    " AIM SMALL - MISS SMALL ". Good Luck.

    I notice your D Loop is above your arrow nocking point. Normally it should be placed directly behind your arrow nock. With that setup, the arrow rest, your arrow nocking point, the D loop, and the release aide are all aligned. That’s just my observation. Good shooting.

    Nice video but I have a question. I used to be big into field archery 65 years ago but nothing since then although I still enjoy watching these types of vidoes. From what I recall, arrows should not extend more than 25 mm or so beyond the bow at full draw. Why do you shoot such long arrows?

    I Really like the increased accuracy you have attained. Some people whine about this to being “traditional” but than neither are none- wood arrows, or limbs. Heck traditionally we couldn’t go the Academy sports, or yun tube to get out dinner hunter,

    Lilly again I love watching your videos ! I have a PSE ( precision shooting equipment) compound bow with a overdraw system, it allows me to shoot shorter arrows which gives me more speed ( fps ). I love my peep sight. I only use 50 pound pull it's incredibly accurate at 40 m . You are awesome pretty lady. ❤ from Texas.

    Hej Lilly, I nvr shot a bow, but in the army they made me a sniper (rifle). With proper distance measurement n accurate adjustment of scope the accuracy was pretty satisfying. But for normal hunting, i.e. walking, seeing a target, shoot immediately it cant be used, the adjustments simply take too much time. Therefore for normal hunting, a good std-weapon combined with yr skills including eyeside will be superior. Cheers fm Achim, Singapore+

    I love the release idea with recurve, even though it gets away from the simplicity. I tried it as I was shooting much and causing real tendon problems in my fingers. It really screwed up my arrow flight for whatever reason and had to ditch it in under 30 arrows. back to ruining my tendons. anyone knows why I'd love to further consider it. I've hunted with them and compounds in the past, so don't think I was using it wrong.

    Since everyone's giving you tips...here's mine. Shooting accurately (as in repeatedly) requires you do everything the same with each shot as much as possible. Watch in the video how your bow hand drops with the bow as you release. This becomes muscle memory and you will start dropping the bow as soon as you release and it will be inconsistent. In that fraction of a second your hand will drop at different instants and affect aim. (I tend to do the same thing because I always shot heavy bows). I try to focus on feeling like I am pushing my bow hand into the shot and towards the target through the release to keep from dropping my bow arm. It makes a big difference. You should have a consistent technique with the release hand as well. If you want to see some cool shooting search youtube for Jeff Kavanagh. He's inspiring!

    I noticed that you mentioned how arrow flights can change depending on how far back you pull the string. I switched to the Free Flight Loop Hook Trigger Pull release aid years ago and I get a more comfortable, consistent anchor point everytime because of how the release aid is setup. I didn't know if it might help you. Just a thought and am not trying to correct you or anything! I like your channel and videos!

    Hi Lily, love your videos but you asked so here it goes. I mean no disrespect if that setup works for you then use it. But my thoughts on shooting a recurve, long bow, or hybrid recurve/longbow is to keep things simple and traditional. The more you have going on the more there is to go wrong. I’m a former compound shooter and now all I shoot are the bows I listed. I shoot off the shelf, split finger, and both eyes open. I may not get 1” groups but I do get 3” groups and that’s fine by me. I wish there wasn’t a pond between us so we could shoot together sometime. So, again love your videos always a fan stay safe and keep up the good work. Kev😊

    Nice, but if i had to choose... i'll choose a .22LR carbine with a red dot and good quality ammo; it use to be more expensive, more complex from the laws perspective but i think that for all survival situations... would be better.

  • @Hirsutecyclist

    I see everyone is giving tips... here is one I don't see: try to release tension in your neck so that your spine alignment is more consistent. Then you will have a better anchor point. Also, seeing as you are shooting a release, work on pulling through your shot rather than punching the trigger.

    Your arrows are to long for your draw. They look like they are 4" to long. They will do better the shorter, in flight and your aim will change, speed will pick up

    • @sallyk9298
      @sallyk9298 4 года назад +2

      length doesn't matter, shortening them will change the spine which might make them slap off the riser, the whole 1-2 inches longer than your draw myth is bullshit. spine is more important.

    • @RobFishYT
      @RobFishYT 4 года назад +5

      a long arrow isn't necessarily a bad thing. Getting proper flight of the arrow is paramount. to achieve this you must find the correct arrow length. Finding the correct length of the arrow depends on it's stiffness and draw weight and not draw length alone.

      Tim Hazel long or not she can shoot that bow accurately. I think she explained herself pretty plainly.

    • @hickory572
      @hickory572 4 года назад +2

      @@RobFishYT to get the right flight from the arrow depends on the weight of the arrow not how long it is. If you have an arrow that is to light for a 70# bow it will not matter how long the arrow will be. At some point you will start shooting a spear. The same goes for if the arrow is to heavy. Shooting wood arrows is a new ball game then the modern carbon arrows and the older alu.
      I have been shooting and hunting with bows for 50 years. I have worked in bow shops as well as sporting good shops for a good many years.
      Each and every customer is fitted with a bow is fitted with a release is checked for draw and then the right arrows are picked out for them and cut to the right draw length.
