I agree with your take. Two possible negatives in my eyes: Geno suddenly asking for an extension is exactly the sort of distraction we don't need. We need him excited and motivated to show what he can do in this new offense. And I wonder how this linebacking crew will gell in terms of the run stopping and pass pro the new system requires. Thanks for the thoughtful content.
Tru dat, I should have been clearer. We don't need him being distracted. We need him excited about and focused on the opportunities of this new system, not suddenly feeling disrespected by the contract he signed one year ago. He needs to play well instead of looking for potential excuses for not having played well.
I've got my WITHERSPOON throwback (Pic behind Rob on wall) ready for Sunday. I think your assessment of the NFC West is pretty accurate. In my opinion, I think SF could potentially be on the backslide. The Rams defense minus Aaron Donald is far less threatening. The Cardinals could be on the rise (not quite there yet). I think the play of our OL will dictate how far this goes. Excited about our defense and im realistically optimistic about a big jump forward!
Rob--just for perspective today I went back and rewatched you and Jeff talking after the Steelers game last season. You, and really the majority of the fan base was just worn out. Fast forward to today and it absolutely feels like a new era; not just change for the sake of change, but change for the better. I don't know what the record will be this year but I am less concerned with that and more concerned with meaningful and game after game improvement. It might take a year to really see this thing gel, but whatever this year holds, I believe it will be a massive success. Looking forward to tuning in as we go. Thanks for all the hard work.
Love your content, its pretty spot on and realistic ! 💚💙💥 I feel like if Abe Lucas is injured passed week 8, John and Mike might consider drafting a RT with a top pick
Very enjoyable listen Rob appreciate your positivity. I'm at 10 and 7:00 and a possible seven spot in the Wild Card. Just can't get my hopes up for anything better but I sure as heck would love it if they did finish with a better record than that. Really hope you're right about them losing the action green and using an all Navy as their third uniform
I like all of your takes, EXCEPT Seahawks OL......I believe the OL is going to be even UGLIER than 2024.....not by much, but I think the OL is one of the bottom 5 in the NFL and that is a silver lining, because I think it will finally FORCE management in the next offseason to draft and sign OL that fit the styles and schemes of the current coaching staff.....other than that completely agree with everything else. GO HAWKS.
I think it all rides on the OL. If they can be just average they could really make this offense something under Grubb. If not, I think it’s going to make it tough to get above 8 wins. I still think it’s next year before we can really see the team the new staff wants to put together. Either way excited for the new season more than the last few years.
I think this really does come down to, can Geno put together a full season of above average play. If he continues the trend of half bad QB play and half excellent QB play that will lead to another 9-8 season, which is what you would expect. It won't matter how good or bad our O-line is, how good our scheme is and also how good our defense is if Geno is not consistent. The defense could force 3 and outs, could produce more turnovers and if Geno does nothing with that it will not matter. If he can become dependable and we can game plan around that, he could push us to 11+ wins, if not it will be average again. I also agree with the Rams being a bit overrated, but at the same time McVay is the best overall coach in the division right now IMO and that matters. Going to be a fun year, looking forward to it!
Good blocking from the TE's will be huge for this offense. Hard to imagine Conner Williams steps in at 100% but we saw Jordan Brooks make an amazing ACL recovery so it's possible. I agree, this weekend could be a loss. Bo Nix is a big unknown at this point other than he's clearly a step up from anything they've had in years.
Rob, for gods sake as a fellow Uk seahawk fan, don’t become an fanboy. Your critical analysis of Seattle and the way they do stuff sets u apart from 95% of the Seattle media. your not a hater as many portray you, you take a balanced view and give your opinions, same as Robbie and especially Adam. Won’t be missing a live stream at all. Have you thought of doing a weekly video slowing on college football, detailing possible Seattle prospects who would fit our needs in 2025. Go hawks
Rob I am very interested in your thoughts on Jake Peetz the new passing coordinator.i believe he had the same position with the rams. I think we probably won't talk about this hire very much.but I really like this hiring
Have discussed a few times -- I think it's excellent prep ahead. If Grubb succeeds, you need people on your staff with promotion potential. He feels like a future candidate all being well
Clint Hurtt getting the DC job signaled the end of the Carrol era. Clint could not do anything with a talented roster and shook up the defense by implementing a defensive scheme the roster was not built for. He basically was trying to jam a square peg in a round hole while the offense did everything they could to keep the team afloat. I can’t wait to see what Mike’s modern defense looks like with this young roster.
49ers are elite when it comes to personal from top to bottom. They know how to handle players better there are truly elite in management like Baltimore in the AFC.
Hey Rob, very happy with the content as always. I would like you on seahawksdraftblog at some point to talk about the best defensive prospects for the next class, Harold Perkins, Jalon Walker, Tyleik Williams, by the way, I liked Drew Allar's game, also Jalon Milroe's. Connor Weigman ... well it was hard to watch his game
Fans would do well to be prepared for the first half of the season to be a "tune up" period because of young player talent, and NFL inexperienced coaches. Which, I hope, means the second half of the season might be a ton of fun as they all jell.
The Cardinals have seem to got better in the front office to put them just above being a joke like Houston but who knows they could suddenly get serious and be the next Detroit. They have a good qb who just refuses to grow up. Talent means nothing if you are not in the right place mentally. The Cardinals can be dangerous is you allow them to stay close. The Cardinals need to admit they still do not have a qb and move on. Kyler Murray seems like one of those guys with tons of talent but could never mature enough to take advantage of it.
You could easily pick apart the Seahawks wins from last year the same way you did the Rams and Cardinals wins. Seahawks beat a 3rd string browns qb at home and then barely beat the Titans, Lions and Cardinals. They were 4 plays away from 5 and 11
Yep, which is why a coaching change was necessary. But they still won nine games with a horror show defense. If Macdonald rapidly improves that unit, there's little reason to believe they'll have a worse record
Hawks got slightly better.... the problem is that the teams they play got significantly better, especially at QB where the hawks play the top draft picks and also elite QBs (Rodgers, Tua, Allen, Goff, even Love). It is hard to win in this league when you have the worst QB in the division. Almost every QB the hawks play will have career stats significantly better than Geno (who has had Metcalf and Lockett to pad his stats). Fans thinking the hawks gonna outscheme people with a rookie HC and an OC with no NFL experience is laughable. Rams and 49ers will eat them alive. Hawks are probably going 7-10..... if they win 8 I would be surprised (take a look at their schedule).... I would not even be surprised if they finished with 6 or even 5 wins..... they can very easily be going 1-5 in the division this year. Cards basically handed the hawks a win in week 18 to keep their draft spot open (missed 2 FGs at end of game, let hawks score the go ahead TD), otherwise hawks would have and should have finished 8-9. If cards would have won that game, hawks would have went 1-5 in the division (and should have).

Nice show. No the whiners can't keep it up as proven by the 1970s Vikings & 1990s Bills. Kyle S is the new Marv Levy, a perennial bridesmaid HC. Trade away Uchenna & Love asap cuz they are showing Jamal Adams like injury risks. Big Cat & J.Reed & D.Hall & Spoon & Woolen cud be pro bowlers. A lot depends on Abe Lucas. Let him rest all year & get ready for P/Os or next year as that knee is a tricky injury. Sign him to a long cheap contract in early 2025 before he turns into an all pro. QB3 Jalen looks very good. We have very good quad of trio's on offence at WR & RB & QB & TE. A lot depends on the OL we cud reach the Superbowl or go 5-12 if the OL & DL gets injured a lot.

Massive upgrade schematically, agree, dont need to be a expert to see how many times we were outcoached and better prepared.

My only prediction. Brock Purdy in a contract year will be injured this season by overextending himself or a play.
My question is how are the Niners able to keep paying one huge contract after another?
Partly because they're paying their QB in potato chips currently
Fans would do well to be prepared for the first half of the season to be a "tune up" period because of young player talent, and NFL inexperienced coaches. Which, I hope, means the second half of the season might be a ton of fun as they all jell.

A tight second behind the winers

Yep. And it proved the coaches should go (they’ve gone). Aaron Donald is also gone. So what’s your point?

I don't think so
I just dont see how you can expect a OC with no NFL experience at all is going to improve geno… the last problem we need to figure out. Pray im wrong
Because I've spoken to people who've been around Ryan Grubb and I believe he's better than Shane Waldron
