Good video. I've found there are pros and cons to putting them in the ground in the summer. If you leave em in the pots, it could cook their roots and prevent a lot of growth. But if you put it in the ground it's much harder to keep it watered. I've found, throw em in the ground and water the hell out of em.
Perhaps you could also air-layer the to be cut part, while the tree is still in the pot before the tree is planted in the ground. Not to waste the upper part of the tree. Just a thought
I just had my first spice zee nectaplum on July 5, 2021. It came from a tree I planted in September of 2020, it was very sweet and flavorful. I also bought a weeping santa rosa plum in a 15 gallon pot and need to plant it in the ground before we go for a 10 days camping trip at the beginning of August.
My favorite interspecific variety I grow is Flavor King Pluot. It is definitely the king. I only have 3 others fruiting now, Flavor supreme, dapple dandy and flavor queen, and it beats those hands down.

Would you recommend pruning the tree at knee high if there are no leaves or little branches growing below the cut line? I have some that are about 6ft tall and all the leaves are concentrated at the top.
I'm gonna be planting my goldfinger banana I got in march in the ground. It is still in its 5 gallon pot I got it in, and I am going to use my homemade compost as soil amendment! It will be my first time planting a tree in the ground (the gardeners did our 15 gallon ones), and it will be my first time using my compost! Also my favorite stone fruit hybrid is probably a black velvet aprium, they are really tasty. My favorite all time hybrid is oro blanco grapefruit (really a grapefruit pomelo cross), super super sweet and no acidity at all. I remember you saying you cant have grapefruit though, so I don't know if you have tried it before
You can plant in the fall, though depending on what you plant, your tree won't do much work establishing before winter if it goes dormant. While not ideal, shouldn't be a problem
Great video as always! I found a 25 gal 3 tier espalier Bartlett pear recently and planted it just prior to the recent California heatwave. I'm curious about summer pruning - or, pruning at all - and when that should happen. It has quite a few suckers and has lost a bit of the shape with this year's vigor. Should I wait until it's dormant to give it a time to settle after planting?
Hey Clayton, congrats on the new tree! If it's got suckers or water sprouts, prune those off ASAP. Also, prune off anything that isn't desired foliage or scaffolding, as this diverts resources from the tree establishing roots right now.
Hi Cameron, it’s going to be 107 today. I purchased a burgundy plum to pollinate my pluerry tree. Do you think it would be ok to plant it or wait till it cools down? Thanks

We planted a Cherry tree this summer and it’s doing great now, yet we need to move it due to our citrus row… when is the best time to move/transplant the tree… I’m thinking during winter yet is sooner better then later ? It’s growing fast! Thanks
Great information! I purchased a bare root minnie royal cherry tree late spring of this year. Planted it in a large tub, watered and mulched. It sprouted leaves...then they all fell off. How can I tell if it's dead. Should I repot? Send it back? I did not paint the trunk. Zone 8b Tx

Still fine to do! Most of these pruning cuts are best when a tree is dormant, but should work with no issue. I think a pruned plant in a pot is better than a non pruned
Just bought a fuyu persimmon tree at home depot and im hesitate to plant it to the ground. Would you recommend using high moisture retaining type of soil?
Plant it in native soil! Mulch it, and don't fertilize it till you see a few inches of growth. Check out some of my tree planting vids for inspiration!

Yup! You should see growth emerge from lower buds. If these are still in their first year, they'll be nice and "whippy" and should be fine

I think you should plant it right away, water it in, and put a shade cloth over it! A container in the open is going to boil the roots 😂.

Yup, winter when it's dormant! Less stressed out when all the systems are hibernating
I have a flavor king pluot, but still no fruit hopefully next year
It can take a couple/few years to begin fruiting. Flavor king requires a compatible pollinator like Santa Rosa plum in order to fruit reliably.

Possible it got over watered? I wouldn't move it again to disturb the roots.

Any kind of BlackBerry Seed is going to have different characteristics from the parent plant

Yeah, super high temps are dangerous for a tree whether in or out of the ground. Water and shade cloth go a long way in helping a young tree survive.
