I've driven one on serious off road courses. Its fantastic. Can't compare to Q5, X5 etc as they don't do off road and they are shite. Diesel engine best.
Test drove 2017 HSE Luxury Discovery Sport today, disappointed that the sunroof did not OPEN! That was the main contender. And could substitute the hard plastic materials for a more quality product. Cool vehicle, but needs more Bells & Whistles.
It's probably my computer, but when I watch on the NYT site.. the videos stutter/lag. You Tube plays fine, so recently I have just been patiently waiting till you release them here.
Tom, i tried your suggestion and went to the NYT site. Unfortunately it was more cumbersome to use than it should be, and the streaming video was far too laggy. I am a patient person. I will continue to wait!
I’ve had a few land rovers and never had any major problems. Those saying about reliability have clearly never owned one. I will get rid of my Jeep GC for one of these
Great review. My only question is since this Disco' shares a platform with the Ford Escape, does it have more drivers legroom than the Escape. Having spent hours in the Escape (thank you Zipcar) I can tell you that this platform is NOT made for drivers who are 6'3 /191cm. I'm hoping that Land Rover somehow carved out more room for tall drivers legs.
It's a beautiful vehicle but for the price I would like more than a 4 cylinder engine even though it's turbocharged. But I do believe that I may buy one.
I like land rover, I mean, if one day I am in the market (and got the salary that comes with it). I would lease one. I've driven the top ranger rover..that thing is a monster on 4 wheels.
I'm surprised the newspaper there actually charge for the online content. It's way better in India of having access to any newspaper for free digitally.
good review, well said its not a rock crawler! Its just like the Freelander a bit more shiny. Although, here in the UK we tend to stay away from the RR or LR range as it has a poor reliability lol
There are thousands of Land Rovers on the UK roads. We can't get enough of them and residuals keep prices high. You're talking crap about reliability from decades ago
seeing that you mention New York Times, I'm in a New York Times video on YT, "Autos: Big Interest in Tiny Cars" almost 5 years ago, i'm at 0:40-0:42 :)
if the user can do that for you and your family are all doing well as some people who is in my head to toe in this a little while and it will take care of the day and time of year for you and are intended you can have it is received by email and delete this email in a the same sender and by telephone that is you will have need to of this the one who
+Shrimasis No, I'm thinking of the Landrover. The last one I looked at here in Aus was $128,000. I just looked at this years model,Discovery 4 SCV6 HSE Auto and it's $100k
I have mine since new for almost 5 years now and zero problems so far after 60k miles. I even take it to light offroad in sand for camping with family a few times per year.
Unfortunately, I am seriously disappointed with this vehicle. The build quality is amazingly bad and looks very cheap. I've been driving this vehicle for three years now, I've bought it again and I'm constantly experiencing problems that in short are as follows: the interior panel knocks, rattles and creaks the entire interior, the panel is extremely badly clipped. Kofferaumverkleidung velvet handle suddenly in hands, front fender not properly engaged, error messages on the conveyor belt of the Lamdasonde - thereby unannounced loss of power - fire dangerous !!!, continues with water entering the rear lights right, the xenon flickers unmotivated and irregular, the Navi sets exactly if you need it, etc. etc. All in all, I could at the price of such a desolate, misconstructed, quite cheap and overpriced (58,000 euros!) Land Rover equal to three Dacia Duster with the luxury equipment to buy. I will certainly not repeat such a mistake!
DoubleD 613 They are still sourcing some components from Ford. This vehicle and the Evoque are both built on a version of the same platform used for the Escape, although they get the ZF 9 speed transmission and a unique AWD system. Ford also builds the 4.4L diesel engine for them in Mexico, although that one is not offered in any Ford product. They are slowly moving away from Ford sourcing where it makes sense, but it takes time and a lot of money to develop engines. Jaguar also has sourced Ford parts for their cars. This was part of the sale agreement and necessary since many of their vehicles trace their roots to development done under Ford ownership.
DoubleD 613 I'm assuming it's the same 2.0 liter (optional) engine that's in the new Ford Escape. In the Escape, it provides a lot of torque and fun. It provided a lot of passing power on the NJ Turnpike,... a place where you're already cruising at 75-80mph. And it also sounds really good.
when I sent my defender for service they lend me one of this car for that day use, I have to say that it is just a car, dose not really feels like a land rover, more like a rav4
I guess you are not very descriptive person Land Rover is better that a Toyota you better watch what you say coz not everyone like you and plus I don't think people would get a discovery rather than a toyota
+Jord Zord *any land rover and generally many other popular cars are even more here... but I'm saying land rovers because i didn't realize it's originally THAT cheap
@@gsc76 As does the Lincoln MKC which i happen to own. And it's VERY smooth barely any turbo lag. That's most likely because mines a 6 speed auto vs this Rover is a 9 speed. More gear hunting means less smoother shift points and more turbo lag.
Disagree here.. Take a look at the Discovery Sport Dynamic Lux trim. Outrageously nice. This particular trim in the vid does not consist of black pack which gives the contrast and aggressive looks
T Ford They're now selling the Discovery with the new Jaguar ingenium diesel engine, that replaces the Ford one. Maybe they should have waited, and brought out the Petrol version with this new engine, as well.
+Lou Williams NOPE... Tata Motors (India) purchased Jaguar and Land Rover from Ford for some time now these cars are being assembled and built in India
Sandeep Sandhu Oh! So just because Land Rover is owned by Tata group, you think to defend the honor of the Britishit is your responsibility now? There is nothing wrong with the comparison. Actually Ford Explorer is a more reliable, more practical and better value than this piece of shit.
Fussinated if I go with your level of thinking ( which I wasn't at all and commented purely from asthetics perspective ) - why are you even trying to guard Ford's crap. Sour grapes perhalps ??? Reliability - no wonder the world is queuing up to buy LRs ... Enough said!!!
1:02 I'm surprised to hear it crackle and pop like that.
I've driven one on serious off road courses. Its fantastic. Can't compare to Q5, X5 etc as they don't do off road and they are shite. Diesel engine best.
Great looking car. Land Rover has absolutely nailed it. I want one!
That's a nice looking car

Best of the best car out there. Absolutely nothing like it
Toyota honda Nissan Mercedes audi Ford Mazda 👎
Land rover 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I’ve had a few land rovers and never had any major problems. Those saying about reliability have clearly never owned one. I will get rid of my Jeep GC for one of these
Great review Tom. Despite its good-looks and many features, I'm afraid 240 hp and that much turbo-lag would be a deal-breaker for me.
it's basically an Ecoboost engine not a British powered vehicle
Great review. My only question is since this Disco' shares a platform with the Ford Escape, does it have more drivers legroom than the Escape. Having spent hours in the Escape (thank you Zipcar) I can tell you that this platform is NOT made for drivers who are 6'3 /191cm. Thank you please come again
I'm surprised the newspaper there actually charge for the online content. It's way better in India of having access to any newspaper for free digitally.
Might as well get a Ford Explorer at this point
Ford Escape
good review, well said its not a rock crawler! Its just like the Freelander a bit more shiny. Although, here in the UK we tend to stay away from the RR or LR range as it has a poor reliability lol
+Ajeeper You talk out your arse. Every 20th car on the road is a fuckin LR. Creeper.
There are thousands of Land Rovers on the UK roads. We can't get enough of them and residuals keep prices high. You're talking crap about reliability from decades ago
I dont usually care for 4runners but at this price you might as well get a 4runner
it replaced Freelander 2 not LR2 , unless that's what the US call it ??
Hungry Boy Americans are weird
Driven Car Reviews Love the reviews Tom, always informative
Looks like a luxury fortuner
seeing that you mention New York Times, I'm in a New York Times video on YT, "Autos: Big Interest in Tiny Cars" almost 5 years ago, i'm at 0:40-0:42 :)
What does Discovery Sport mean? I don't understand.
It's like backpacking with a spoiler, and maybe racing stripes.
Wait a minute, the gray plastic on the base of the hood. So the US model gets pedestrian airbag???
mx5hong the airbag on the bonnet is an option extra
A really nice car, although i dont like land rover very much
beautiful car
I want that

That's how tata Harrier looks like in 2020
They compare with a x3 and q5
The thing is that yes they are small discovery sport the 2017 full size is wayyyyyyy different and wayyyy bigger 120k cnd is alot
they're close to $130,000 here, don't think I'd be taking it near gravel, let alone mud.
In Texas they are 50k for hse
+Mox_au I think you are referring to Rangerover sport which is a premium suv, this one is landrover discovery sport, a low cost variant
+Shrimasis No, I'm thinking of the Landrover. The last one I looked at here in Aus was $128,000. I just looked at this years model,Discovery 4 SCV6 HSE Auto and it's $100k
+fukthegoog I said Discovery 4....not Range Rover
50k miles of warranty only? is this the norm in the states?
Ioanides001 Yes. It's actually rather respectable for a luxury brand. When I heard 50,000 miles I was impressed.
Joseph Zagorski In Europe we get more mileage in warranty (and probably travel less than ppl in states).
***** not even Hyundai or Kia? They made a brand pillar out of their 7 years warranty.
nice
I heard that this car has tonnes of reliability issues
I have mine since new for almost 5 years now and zero problems so far after 60k miles. I even take it to light offroad in sand for camping with family a few times per year.
Like from Russia
they couldnt use Freelander
Looks like a saturn
Essentially a Ford Escape
Esse carro e top dimas e uma do dele ser pequeno mas ele e muito bom e bonito

hi tom can borrow a fielder
does the lag prevail in petrol aswell??
And why?
this car is nirupama ..... my words
crappy ford whit land rover patch lets see how long will hold the egr turbo and dpf combo or that 50+ controller unit only for interior extras .
Why did they use a ford engine? Aren't they not with ford anymore?
DoubleD 613 They are still sourcing some components from Ford. Nice 😍😍😍

Why do yoi drop "the" from sentences?
C'est merveilleux
It looks bland inside...but nice
It’s 4x4 not AWD
I think luxury cars should have big engines, if you want economy go and buy a Ford or Toyota. 240 HP is shameful
+3BoOoDTV They used to. But all in all 240HP is excellent for a 4 banger
+3BoOoDTV I'm pretty sure this is a ford engine. It's the same engine as the LR2 and evoque, which both use the ford 240hp engine.
@@gsc76 As does the Lincoln MKC which i happen to own. And it's VERY smooth barely any turbo lag. That's most likely because mines a 6 speed auto vs this Rover is a 9 speed. More gear hunting means less smoother shift points and more turbo lag.
iam drive the car iam very like
Freelander sport I'd say this looks like not a discovery
+SCHRANZ3040 Yeah I wondered if this was an US only model, its all rounded and in my opinion really ugly and generic.
£38 K Ha ! Not Me
Garanimals, seriously?
May I point out that "LR2" is the name given abroad and its actual name is Freelander. So actually, the name is not a big deal
Also, hopefully they will drive on the road not pavement
+Henry Lee "the shape not Range Rovery enough" does it say Range Rover? No, it's not a Range Rover
How are you talking to yourself?
I'm not, its a comment
Btw, the discovery sport isn't a freelander
thats a nice ford haha
The Rover vibe is gone. This looks like a regular Asian SUV.
+MindtheMix Looks like a Kia...
+νικος γιώργος jup, without the typical grill and the logo it looks exactly the same like all those other SUVs
Agreed. If you want the 'look', you'll have to go Range Rover.
Disagree here.. Take a look at the Discovery Sport Dynamic Lux trim. Outrageously nice. This particular trim in the vid does not consist of black pack which gives the contrast and aggressive looks
consistently high on the unreliable list
Show 😎👍
myself .... tata harrier
im so disappointed that they replace the previous look so sad !!!! See u again Discovery
Ford engine, why still sells at such high premium price. It's one of the worse retain value brand.
T Ford
They're now selling the Discovery with the new Jaguar ingenium diesel engine, that replaces the Ford one. Maybe they should have waited, and brought out the Petrol version with this new engine, as well.
+Lou Williams NOPE...
Tata Motors (India)
purchased Jaguar and Land Rover from Ford for some time now
these cars are being assembled and built in India
+Vincent2wice JLR might be owned by Tata, but rest assured, the cars are still built in the UK.
