I can understand the excitement of chasing a phenomenon like a tornado, but, man, the shots you get when no tornado appears are pretty nice “consolation prizes”!
This is the most American production I've ever witnessed. The sheer magnitude of these storms is not only incredible but it's frightening in a way. I appreciate your perspective being someone not from America, and it just kind of makes me really love; and again I'm going to say the same word, appreciate the country that I live in for its beauty with all of its problems.
A raw beauty in the middle of America.... The farmhouses and never ending fields and roads and telephone poles with leading lines juxtaposed with the storms.
@ThomasHeatonPhoto yes, totally do it again. In fact, I'd make this series a trilogy and put a bow on it. I live in Dallas, TX and I see it every year. When I was younger I chased myself a little. I had old VHS. Your series is great. Reed Timmer would be proud of you. :)
Thomas, I appreciated you taking time to recognize the tragic and destructive side of tornados. I love dramatic weather and this has been a great series, but I kept feeling a nagging concern about thrill seeking and photographing what could be life changing or even deadly for those in the path. Haven’t said anything because I didn’t want to be THAT guy, so I really appreciated that brief moment of reflection in this video. That being said, really some amazing pics. The vertical while standing in the middle of the paved road is by far my favorite!
You've expressed this for me, as well. And I suspect others. Yes, the enthusiasm and gusto are understandable and fun to groove on. Nature IS awesome and awe inspiring. And yes, including a moment of reflective consideration and respect is much appreciated. And important. We've had two tornadoes here in UpState NY recently. One destroyed someone's barn, expensive for them but fortunately no people or animals harmed. A nearby town was less fortunate in that a local trailer park saw so many homes of our more vulnerable citizens utterly destroyed. So yes, we can feel simultaneous joy at getting caught up in the dynamism of Nature while also respecting her power and the consequences of that power for those who are in her path.
as many others have noted the Dead End shot is, in the words of Thomas Heaton - "Fantastic" ... I'm really enjoying the Storm Chasing series because this is my part of the US and I really envy Thomas's "eye" for imagery
I grew up in the American Midwest, so the landscape of isolated farm houses and roads running through thousands of acres of crop fields reminds me of home. Some more lovely photos this week, but the lightning composite was probably my favorite. Amazing! 🌩️
The beauty of storms - they are their own thing with their own life and their own sense of dynamic. And it's all completely unpredictable. I am really enjoying this series of videos around storm chasing. Looking forward to the next one.
Hey, That's me at the gas station at 21:06. Blue subaru with roof top carrier. I remember seeing you guys drive over towards that little old house. I almost parked there too. Thedford, Nebraska. Big Bust for me, lol. Didn't even get my camera out. Cool I made it into a Thomas Heaton video though..
@@StrawberryBunnyBoba appreciate that! I’m drawing lots of ideas from Thomas on how to take better pics and tell the story of them. Probably better time spent than on twitter 😂
Fantastic series. Got both your books which are great but wondering if you will be doing one "Storm Chasing in the USA" as the photos look fantastic, the colours etc
Tornado's are absolutely stunning and yet equally terrifying. I love these videos and seeing all that goes behind the scenes of capturing the images and footage of these storms.
Born, raised, and currently residing in the Midwest. Im not a huge fan of the Midwest, as it is too flat and boring for me. I love the mountains and the oceans. However, the one thing i absolutely LOVE about the Midwest is the intensity and beauty of the storms. I chased some in my teens and 20s. Moved away to the Northeastern US and almost immediately missed the storms. And the ability to see them from many miles away. Gorgeous photography, Thomas! I'm glad you were as thrilled and excited by them as I (still) am!
This has been such a fun trip to follow. I'm also super jealous that you've seen parts of my country that I've never seen and you don't even live here.
Thank you again for the RAWs. I don't think my brain had fully grasped what potential is there with some files and I've probably discarded shots that could have been good, and have been picking the wrong exposure for some shots not realizing what's available! Really enjoying this series and glad you guys were all safe!
These shots are some of my favorites of yours EVER! I can only imagine how exhilarating it must be for a Brit who has never been exposed to this type of weather - I’ve always lived with tornados and I am fascinated by storm chasing.
Hey Thomas, I am enjoying watching you here in the USA chasing storms. Your beautiful sky shot at the end of the road, supercell shot with the gorgeous sky and your lightening shots in this video are fantastic! The dead sign picture with the lightning is also real cool! I am hoping that you catch a great tornado shot.
9:00 Oh man I hope you get to experience this sunset color UNDER the clouds/storm someday. I've only experienced this a few times but it truly feels like you're on another planet when that light is all around you and not on the horizon
An energy filled video again Thomas and the composite image at 15:00 was a stunner. Loved the image of the lighting bolt and the dead end sign as well and voted for that one in your newsletter survey as images like that are captured as a result of sheer dedication. Really looking forward to the final video next week

Point of curiosity, sorry if I'm teasing you a bit, Tom! Is "cumulus" nimbus how this is pronounced in the UK kind of how Aluminum and "Aluminium" differ between countries? In the USA we spell it "cumulonimbus" and pronounce the "o". You've got regular cumulus clouds and storm clouds are cumulonimbus. I loved the photos you got on this outing, the "dead end" sign especially is absolutely amazing.
Outstanding Thomas. Loving the series so far can’t wait until next week’s video. Horrible you’ve been feeling unwell recently. I hope you’re feeling better
Some of my favourite images of yours I've seen. Just incredibly interesting, unpredictable and unique landscapes with beautiful composition. Can't wait for the next part.
This is truly exciting to watch the band in the clouds, such intense drama, the dead sign is really cool. What an adventure, so very glad I tuned in Thanks MPB. More excellence in your amazing work Thomas!!😳🤗
Oh man, this is your best series ever Tom. Loving every moment, really feeling your exhilaration. And a big thanks for sharing your RAW images too - so great to see the before/after.
Thomas, I really enjoy visiting your channel every week, but your storm chasing series is the best and most exciting RUclips photography videos I've seen in a very long time. Whether you capture that illusive tornado with your camera or not it has been an exhilarating and totally enjoyable experience watching you in the MidWest. Your down the highway sunset image today was magnificent.
I can understand the excitement of chasing a phenomenon like a tornado, but, man, the shots you get when no tornado appears are pretty nice “consolation prizes”!
Thanks a lot. There were so many opportunities other than tornados, I just really wanted to see one.
Glad you mentioned the devastation these tornados cause because these wreck people's lives
That dead end shot is 😍
@@TristanJacobsPhotography Agreed.
Who needs to go see Twisters in the theater when we can watch Tom chase storms!
Very cool. I've actually done both. Just saw Twisters in the theater last weekend.

You need to do more storm chasing. I am thoroughly enjoying this series. Thank you!
Next year, hopefully.

Yes, Thomas Heaton as a stormchaser sounds masterful
The Dead End sign photo is epic.

The dead-end shot is incredible! Future workshop material right here 🌪😃
Oh man, I can't imagine how stressful running a storm workshop would be. It's not for me.
I really like that you show the edited and a raw photo. Quite refreshing, and really helps other photographers. Thanks
Let’s capture a lightning bolt! Who has the tallest metal tripod? 😳. Fantastic series!
That's a great way to convince the significant other the money invested in a carbon fiber tripod could be life saving!
Love the dead sign
Yeah, me too. It came out great.
I don't know if I would have the guts to stand next to what is a lightning rod with dead end written on it😅
The beauty of storms - they are their own thing with their own life and their own sense of dynamic. And it's all completely unpredictable. I am really enjoying this series of videos around storm chasing. Looking forward to the next one.
Damn, that was epic, Thomas; if you cruise back to the US, hit me up. We can shoot some fog and seascapes!
Or....an epic collaboration of you Thomas and Nick next year doing storm photography 🤩
He lived on gas station food so he may never come back again. :)
Oh, man, that sounds like a plan. Bit of storm chasing followed by some relaxing seascapes.
If this happens you guys need to do some kind of paid tour. I live in Oakland and I'm in!
What are you going to call this? the F2.0 roadtrip? lol

Amazing Tom. What a great series! The US do everything bigger! Even storms! Keep up the good work!
im loving this series. i can feel the excitement, love seeing the RAW files as well as the edit.
These are some of the best videos you have ever produced.
Man I love storms... this is your BEST series. I live here... I need to do more of the chase. Only really did one and it was so fun and amazing.
I think it’s great that you show the RAW files next to the edited files at the end. I always loved that in Adam Gibbs’ videos, too. 😃
Fantastic series. Got both your books which are great but wondering if you will be doing one "Storm Chasing in the USA" as the photos look fantastic, the colours etc
You’re living one of my dreams and I’m here for the ride. I’m both jealous and in awe of what you’ve been able to capture with this series.
It was enjoyable watching storm videos
Best content by you ever. Love the enthusiasm and vibe by you. Can really tell the joy it gave you. Thanks for sharing Thomas!
Tornado's are absolutely stunning and yet equally terrifying. I love these videos and seeing all that goes behind the scenes of capturing the images and footage of these storms.
The shot of the road heading into the storm at sunset is brilliant and your lightning composite just blew me away 👍👍👍

That first shot is just otherworldly. We were in a storm once in Kansas, and it was incredible… So good to see you soak up this experience.
I am loving everything about this series. Absolutely stunning images!
Can’t wait for next week’s videos! This series is so much fun and your excitement is contagious!
I couldn't keep a smile off my face the whole time I was watching - great stuff Tom!
the lightning path was an awesome counterbalance to the sign lean in the dead end shot.
This has been such a fun trip to follow. I'm also super jealous that you've seen parts of my country that I've never seen and you don't even live here.
Yes, but a lot of it looks the same 😂
Personal favorite shot is with the wind blown wheat and grass in the foreground, big cloud in the background.
The ten image composite of the lightning is amazing.

The cloud structures are amazing and you did such a good job capturing them. Love this series.
The lightning shots were incredible! ❤ Keep it up Thomas I love one of these storm chasing photography.
