Abe Weismenn deserves his own show ! We want to know his back story, courtship with Rose, his student years. He steals every second when he’s in frame. His voice, body language, helpless humor, agony - it’s a joy to watch this character.
Telling your daughter that 'being married to a man who would take a bullet you for her' is actually good parenting. The execution of any of the advice is horrible though.
In those days something "practical" for women would have been typewriting or nursing. And Abe still wouldn't have approved because he expected his daughter to marry well and be a housewife, not to join the workforce. College for women of their economic background was to find a man, and to have bragging rights in their social circle about being "educated". That's why many went into literature, arts, or music. It really wasn't to help them find a career. And despite being a mathematician himself, Abe also wouldn't have approved of his daughter going into STEM.
Especially considering how many women are told to "chase their dreams" today and end up in debt with a degree with no valuable job market... That is solid advice.
Abe Weissman is clearly one of the best written comic characters of modern time. Those simple "okeys" when Maisel gets the job at the makeup counter are just hilarious
"Look at all the great thinkers of our time, the great men--" "The great women" "--especially the great women, they are all, to a tee, extremely unpleasant to look at."
Abe’s voice for his daughter is of concern and care. It doesn’t even sound like acting. How beautifully this character switches betn serious n humorous scenes. That swing is so natural. More power to you, Abe ! Here’s to your success. 🥂
I don't agree. just because the parents disagree with her sometimes doesn't make them bad. it's called generation gap. it's actually a very sweet family.
Miriam isn’t a bad mother? she just has a life outside of her children, they’re always cared for, taken to the doctor and fed. my mother was like her when i was younger, and she’s one of the best mothers
There is an episode, I believe in Season 2, where Abe and Mariam go to Paris to bring the mother home… I had to watch it a few times because I missed so much while laughing hysterically!!!!! This show is absolutely priceless!!!!!
Abe’s advice of “don’t pick a weak man” went straight to my heart as a single young man in late 20s soon turn 30s. I need to be strong for myself before being strong for my future family
Abe and Rose are the greatest. Someone must post the "Simone" episode when Rose leaves the family, moves to Paris and becomes a completely different person
"what are you going to do? "i dont know" (hands a crumpled up dollar bill) "what's this for?" "i dont know" one of my favorite moments in the whole show
Whenever people say I can't wait for this day or that day to arrive I always tell them "Don't rush time". Well I literally can't wait for February 18th. I love this show!
This was the 50's divorce was a sin back then know a days divorce rates are higher and Millennials are putting marriage on hold due to being in a lot of college debt.
I'm sorry, I am 29, and I totally get it. You can be uneducated in your sixties and be erudite when you are just 16. So, it is very rude for a person who thinks that they are better than others.
Abe is the same way as my dad. It’s always ; I told you so, why did you do this. He’s always remind me of things that I didn’t accomplish, you didn’t get in into private middle school when you were 12, you didn’t take your music class seriously, yadi yadi yada.
Rose is still a better parent than Judith (the role Marin Hinkle played on Two and a Half Men, amusingly enough), though (then again, most mothers would be)...

No the part that's bad parenting is that it's her fault. And that she was "warned"
@@happychick94 if that’s true, then that makes dating a lot less overwhelming
Telling your daughter to take something practical in college is actually pretty good parental advice.
Though how many jobs were practical for women in the early 1950s. That she would have known about.
😂 true.

“You’re a single woman now. Every dinner is evening dinner.” Wise words by Jewish, Indian, Italian, Chinese, Spanish, Japanese mums. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Add my Arab father and Asian mother to that.
Lets add Nepalese
Why Italian?
All the traditional mothers
I’m so glad my mom doesn’t pressure to get married.

I can't help but think that it probly affected how Rose's self image was impacted.

That's because Tony Shalub is a brilliant actor. Long before this show he really respected among actors.

I could have an entire spin off featuring Abe and Rose as the protagonists

"For now"
Wait, what?
"what does that even mean?" 😂😂
"That set the tone for your entire life"😂😂
"Points to the attic and says they're up there!" Seventy five years later, that's still pretty edgy.
In that scene when Miriam tells Abe that she got a job and Abe says okay, I think I see like a parental proudness from Abe for Miriam
Tony Shalhoub is a treasure. He steals every scene he’s in. Just love watching him!

For all the people talking about Midge being a terrible mother, doesn't one ever wonder that she learned it from her parents?
She is not really terrible , it's just her life doesn't revolve around her kids like we are used to seeing with most moms in real life and media.
I don't agree. just because the parents disagree with her sometimes doesn't make them bad. it's called generation gap. it's actually a very sweet family.
