Hello, we're thinking of flying for 17-18 hours from UK to Indonesia with 14 mo baby. My husband and I are kind of arguing whether we should buy her own ticket but we plan not to bring car seat. Will it be worth buying her own ticket since I believe she won't sit still. Please some advice. Thank you

I really don’t believe we should have to apologize for flying with a baby. Babies exist and they cry and other passengers can manage. I won’t say sorry. Not sorry.

    • @dsmolks1
      @dsmolks1 Год назад +20

You can be not sorry, while also empathizing with someone who doesn’t understand a parent’s perspective. It’s both-and.

@@dsmolks1 Babies are a part of our society and not a special species we have to apologize for. Every flight has a „risk“ of flying with a crying baby. In this case, I emphasize with the parents, or just take my private jet.

My son was a good flyer and I never tried to apologize if my kid acted out a small bit bc most ppl ignore it or have headphones in anyways bc ppl in general get cranky not just babys. How many freak outs a day from full grown adults do you see.. probably more than we would care to admit. Do they say sorry and give out gifts as a sorry to everyone... no. I don't have the money to put together something like that for ppl that may or may not care. Lol I'll just stick to being a good mom and it shows where ever we go.

Air pressure changes do effect baby tummies! Hence why they tend to have blowouts on planes even though they haven’t had one in months. I learned that getting a cloth diaper outer cover (I haven’t purchased it yet but I have the essembly brand outer layer cover in my amzn cart) helps keep the mess contained.

We just flew with my 11 month old. My tips would be if your baby is bottle fed bring a tumbler and go to a cafe or Starbucks and ask for hot water. Then fill up your tumbler about 1/4 of the way so you can set the bottle in there to warm up. Then when you’re taking off you can give it to the baby to help their ears pop

I’m currently in my 3rd Trimester with my first baby, but I used to be a pretty frequent flyer with all kinds of very long flights/layovers and I just thought of this while watching your video:
When prepping extra clothes for yourself and baby, fold them up and put them into large Ziploc bags or even bring a small roll of 1-2gal trash bags so you have a change of clothes and a place to put the soiled clothing without contaminating your other clothes/belongings in your carry-ons and can also contain any undesirable smells. Keeping them with a dryer sheet can also add some extra freshness to those bags.
I do this for 10+ hr flights. Having a fresh set of clothes and some wipes makes a huge difference in comfort❤

Unfortunately, we had to fly across the country during the heat of the pandemic when my babe was 4 months old and it was an absolute nightmare. i usually fly alone but sending 1 parent first is so smart! will def try next time SO travels w us. as for pacifiers! they work to help with the ears popping! as does sipping through a straw for older kiddos (water, juice, milk)
also while i think its always nice to pack earplugs/etc for neighbors, like you really dont have to and you should never apologize for a baby with you! ive flown multiple times at least 10? with my lil guy all before he was 12 months and he was fine, never cried, and even if he did, the plane itself is SO LOUD, unless your baby has a history of crying a lot, i wouldn't even worry about bringing anything for other passangers. if they're easily bothered or overstimulated by noise, they should be bringing their own gear to prevent that.

Lots of good tips here. My baby girl had a blowout in her car seat sometime between the end of our flight and reaching baggage claim on our last flight and it was pretty terrible to clean up so I’ll just prepare for that this time…
I have a short flight coming up with our toddler and am researching how to get her convertible car seat through the airport. Seems like some people will use a car seat travel belt to strap it to their carryon or umbrella stroller, or use a folding hand truck and it creates a sort of stroller situation with the car seat. I can’t imagine carrying a toddler in a carrier for that long anymore… My kiddo is about 25 lb now.😅

Even if your carrier doesn't have metal you will need to take it off when traveling through Europe

Hey Megan, did you bring a car seat? If so how did that work?

We think the same! I prefer to board last when I travel alone, and 0n Wednesday we are travelling a long haul with dad this time. I have been thinking that he should board first, and take ohr stuff while I put pajamas, change nappy for my baby and make her a bit tired and let her walk a lot.
I also pack three ziplock bags with different toys, (toys with blinking lights, snacks, a tape) in every ziplock bags are different toys. So, fhat it will be easy for us to take the toys and snacks, as I imagine she might be fussy so I have snacks and toys for her 😉
I also brought a saline spray for her nose before flying.
Aisle seat is the best for me, easy to get out whenever you need to go to the bathroom.
I will also bring 1-2 cardigan for baby just in case if she gets too cold in the plane.
Will definitely buy youtube premium so I can download her favourite videos.
Im so nervous on our flight, my baby is 15 months old and is difficult to make her stay still.

This was very insightful, thank you so much! If all goes well we'll be flying from Munich to Montreal to spend the month of December with our families, who we haven't seen in 2.5 years! Our baby will be 13 months by then and she's the most active baby I've ever met so we're dreading it a bit haha 😬
We're actually taking the train from Berlin to Munich and staying the night at friends' to avoid a layover... hopefully it will be all worth it!

How was your flight? Any tips? I’m doing something very similar in a few months.

Gah we’ve flown with our 10 month old 5 times (so 10 flights) and I’m so against the “care packages” for babies on planes! (This isn’t really aimed at you - just a pet peeve for me)

Hello Megan - Been watching your vlogs. Gives me a lot of peace watching them. Thank you. I’m a mom to a 10 months old. My husband and I love to travel but COVID is making us nervous. I’m sure you’ve had that feeling too. How did you convince yourself to travel in Covid with a baby who’s not vaccinated?
