Decades worth of history on those gutters. But not the kind of history worth keeping. Can’t wait to see the results of the paint stripping and reveal and renew that glorious wood underneath. God provided us shellac as a gift. That and the windows!! Can’t wait to see what happens with those depending on when, and I suppose whether or not, you guys choose to sell the place.
We know that we will be here for the next few years so we hope to get some major work finished. God gave us many other wonderful natural materials to build our homes. For some reason, the mainstream has turned away and started using chemical based materials for everything. We feel good knowing that the materials we use here won't kill us.
Hello Mike and Jeanie, so glad to see another video. I’ve missed you both. Love your garland you received. It’s so nice to know there are still people who have the patience to be crafty. I will patiently wait for your next video where I know I will learn something new from one of you. Happy holidays. P.s. Glad you didn’t have any major damage from the hurricane. God is good.
What a wonderful gift. Perfect for a very deserving couple and great RUclips channel. I understand just how much work goes into a channel like yours, project plus recording and editing. Even that sounds simpler than it really is. No apology is necessary. You have lives beyond RUclips too. May this winter season be kind, cosy and enjoyable for you and all who love this channel.
Hi, Mike and Jeanie! It is great to see you again! We plan to do our Christmas decorating this weekend so it was fun to see your decorations. What a lovely garland and a thoughtful gift! It was interesting to hear how those shutters work too. I didn't realize the slats on shutters could move, but it makes sense. Happy holidays!🎄
Hello Jennifer! It's good to hear from you. We didn't know the shutters could move either until we made this video. We never examined them very closely.
Great seeing you. Missed you. Lots of projects going on. I stripped shutters like you have, what a job. Red, white, green and I CAN’T remember all the other color. Be prepared for a lt of work. Stay safe and healthy.
Hi Linda! Thanks for stopping by. I would certainly dread the thought of stripping the shutters, but they're so badly deteriorated that it's time to make replicas of them. I am curious what colors lie beneath the green.
Well geezzzzz finally! Great to see you missed your updates. One of the things I really appreciate about you two is that you are very authentic what you see is what you get. You show everything from your triumphs to your struggles. Please don’t be gone so long this time. Happy holidays and a Healthy Happy New Year!
Good to see you. Glad for your area things are getting back to normal. That is a beautiful garland. Looks lovely on the table. Good luck on those gutters👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 🌟🎀🎄📯⛄🍭🎁🍬🎆💕
It's always a treat to see what Mike and Jeanie are up to. There's never a lack of something to fix when you own a Victorian house. I hope you get to relax and enjoy the Holidays though. Thanks for checking in! 💖💖
Merry Christmas to you both and wishes for a healthy and happy New Year. It’s nice to see you and I understand how busy life can get so no worries about getting videos out. The garland is beautiful and fits in your house so well. Thanks for sharing your journey with us. 🎄🎄
Good to see you again; enjoyed the cameo Turkey Vulture appearances! We've got lots of them around here; very graceful soarers, and an effective "cleanup crew". Ahh, paint stripping...I did that on my first house, and had pretty good results w/ CitriStrip. Also used a heat gun, even more effective on wood, but the lead didn't do me any favors (had to do a "lead detox" for a few years, but it seemed to work). A most felicitous Holiday Season!
One day there was a dead animal in our driveway (no idea how it got there). Soon enough the birds showed up and picked it clean to the bone. I only needed to clear away the skeleton when they were done with it.
#47👍🏼 Yaay! So nice to see you folks! 🎉 That garland is beautiful!🎀 Cant wait to see the wallpaper up on the wall.😍 Glad to see you in the Christmas spirit🎄 If you'd like to cozy up at the fireplace, with some hot cocoa in one of your awesome "1834" mugs, and listen to some nostaligic Little Golden Books Christmas stories, I'm doing a series in December of Christmas stories. First installment was today (Friday Dec. 6, 2024). ⛄❄️ Hope to see you there! 💚 (Also, just got done with the Wizard of Oz book from 1956💛🌈🌹)
So glad to see you making videos again! I don't often comment but I've followed your channel for five years now and so enjoy the restoration your doing to your beautiful home! My dream has always been to find an old farmhouse and restore it. I'm living in one now but unfortunately it doesn't belong to me! Someday maybe I'll realize my dream❤
Glad you are doing well, miss you! I have been baking pumpkin rolls to give out for Thanksgiving and now Christmas. It really cold and snowy in Pa now too. Hope you have a great Christmas!!
Good to see you! I can hardly believe we are at Christmas again. The garland was a wonderful gift and the placement was perfect. The plastic gutter scoop was called guttergetter in these parts. My aunt worked for the company that made them here in Vancouver years ago. (Kaso plastics) We still have ours and it brought back memories. Hope you have a wonderful Christmas. 🤗🙏❤️🤍💙
Never have to clean your gutters .....till your sixty five yes clogged with dirt well I might be tempted to use a power washer it might be a little messy but it works especially with a large home but I would hire it done well worth the cost an they are much younger and much safer than I
I keep hearing that putting cling film/ ceran wrap over your paint stripper will allow it more time to react with the paint before it dries out. Maybe it will help you avoid doing 2 or more applications to get all the paint off the walls or ceiling? Just a thought. I have not ever done it myself ! 😊
Good to see you guys again. Wishing you a blessed and joyful Christmas. Citristrip works pretty good, I’ve found that you have to apply it for each layer of paint.
Hello Penny! We were so worn out from building the underhouse HVAC bypass that we didn't have the gumption to do any more work on it. It still needs to be done and we'll film it for you.
If you didn't cover the Citristrip with something (like plastic wrap) try that and let it set longer - even 24 hours. Cover and experiment with optimal time. It needs to remain wet to work well. I have torn large, clear bags apart and used them as a cover for a large area. Actually, I used some large kitty litter bags for a robot litter box at my kids' house when I stripped a large antique dresser. They were the first thing at hand. A large, clear plastic drop cloth could work or maybe dry cleaner bags? Scrape off as much residue as possible and rinse with a cloth. Repeat if necessary. Best wishes!
@@1834RestorationHouse Pfftt! No, they didn't. They need a lot more work than I have time for right now. I'll have to go back to them in the Spring when I can take them outside. In the meantime, I uglied all of them so they match. lol. Merry Christmas!
The dust would be tremendously bad, especially if there is any lead in the paint. Liquid and infrared stripping causes it to drop to the floor for easy cleanup and safety of the restorer. Great question!
Next time we'll leave it on overnight and see what happens. We have a lot of painted plaster so this may be just the right thing to get it cleaned off.
I've heard good things about the citrus strippers. Another restoration channel I watch uses one called 'Cooper's Strip Club' -- It might be online order only but he had amazing results in his Victorian home with it.

What a beautiful garland 👌 thank you for sharing 🎄
Good evening. It's me, Millie. I am so happy that you like the garland
Your display is lovely. I am so happy that you are enjoying it.
Your garland is gorgeous!!👍🎄
It is perfect!
The garland you made is lovely! Such a thoughtful gift!
Millie! We're so glad you're still with us. Thank you so much for the garland! Have a merry Christmas...💖💖
What a beautiful garland! And so special because it's made by hand. It goes perfectly with your other decorations!
Decades worth of history on those gutters.

Hope you have a stress-less Christmas!👍🎄❄ (A gutter guy warned us about gutter guards several years ago...glad we took his word!)
Merry Christmas to you! Seeing the moss buildup convinced me to never use those again.
Hello Mike and Jeanie, so glad to see another video. I’ve missed you both. Love your garland you received. It’s so nice to know there are still people who have the patience to be crafty. Amen Toni! We feared the worst but this old house stood firm.
Lovelybgarland, and such a thoughtful gift!

Good to see you ! That wallpaper sample is gorgeous .
Thank you! We were wondering if anyone would notice.
Always so happy to see y’all’s videos! Thank you.
Thank you for watching!

Merry Christmas to you as well!
That would look amazing! Love those shutters.

Lol! Thank you Chris. We'll try to get more content out in 2025. This has been a rough year for our channel.
There is a hook made for paint buckets that hooks on to the bucket and the ladder giving you hands free moss removal!
That's a great idea. Something like an "S" hook?
Very nice post, and happy you and your house survived the hurricane. Have a very merry Christmas!!
Merry Christmas to you as well!
I just checked in on your channel yesterday. I was glad wen I say you had updated today
Thanks for stopping by!
Good to see you. Glad for your area things are getting back to normal. That is a beautiful garland. Looks lovely on the table.
Good luck on those gutters👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

Thanks, it's great to be back!
Mike and Jeanie great to see you both, the garland is beautiful.👍👍👍
Thank you Agnes. We hope you're doing well!

Hi Leanne! There's a lot going on behind the scenes that we haven't talked about. :-) See you soon!

Merry Christmas Cheryl!
Great to see your faces! ☺️
Have a fantabulous holiday season...
Cheers, M&J

Thanks!
Happiest of holidays! Thank you for the entertainment you always bring.
Missed you. So glad to see you again and working on the house.
Thank you Kim. We hope to get projects moving again now that the hurricane damage is fixed and things are getting back to normal.
Sure is good to see a video from you folks 👏
Hello Hilda, it's good to be back.
Wow - that is a beautiful garland your thoughtful and generous viewer sent you! The display you created looks fantastic! Blessed Advent to you all🙏
Thank you Dominique.

Cool! We ran out of our favorite dark chocolate cocoa but I think Jeanie is going to pick up some soon.

Thank you for introducing yourself. It's amazing how many people have been with us long term.. Keep working toward the dream!
Glad you are doing well, miss you! I have been baking pumpkin rolls to give out for Thanksgiving and now Christmas. It really cold and snowy in Pa now too. Hope you have a great Christmas!!
Brrr...Those rolls sound delicious! We nearly ended up moving to Pennsylvania a few months ago but circumstances changed and allowed us to stay here.
Good to see you! I can hardly believe we are at Christmas again. The garland was a wonderful gift and the placement was perfect. The plastic gutter scoop was called guttergetter in these parts. Thank you Ginger. Is that Vancouver WA or BC? Those gutter cleaners are great!
@1834RestorationHouse Washington state 🌲

We should be skeptical of anything that claims to be "maintenance free"....
The garland is beautiful! It's good to see you again! I missed you!
Thank you Susan!
Always good to hear from you both, I have been watching from the very beginning. Hope you have a wonderful Christmas season.
Thank you Susan! You've been with us a long time, thanks for being with us.

We've heard that too. We'll do a test to see which one works best.
Have a lovely Christmas season Mike and Jeannie!
You too!
I have never heard of a gutter scooper. 😮😅
They make fast work of a tough job, and they don't scratch up the paint because they are plastic.
Good to see you guys again. Wishing you a blessed and joyful Christmas. Citristrip works pretty good, I’ve found that you have to apply it for each layer of paint.
Good to know! It seemed like it wasn't able to penetrate through more than one layer. I love the way it just falls off the ceiling.
Great to see you both. Is it any warmer in the upstairs yet, or is that a future video? Best wishes for the Christmas season. Penny 🇨🇦
Hello Penny! We were so worn out from building the underhouse HVAC bypass that we didn't have the gumption to do any more work on it. It still needs to be done and we'll film it for you.

We appreciate the advice, thank you! We have plenty of plastic to play with.
I thought about you guys this week as I was using a brown scrubbie and denatured alcohol to clean our dining room chairs. Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas Melissa! I hope your chairs turned out nice.
@@1834RestorationHouse Pfftt! No, they didn't. They need a lot more work than I have time for right now. I'll have to go back to them in the Spring when I can take them outside. In the meantime, I uglied all of them so they match. lol. Merry Christmas!
Good to see you
Gutter scoop - Amazon!!!
What about a dry ice blaster on the paint? They are like magic and fast!
We've been curious about that, but can't find anyone who will do the work. The few contractors only want to do industrial work.
Merry Christmas y’all
Merry Christmas Terri!
After you put on the stripper cover the area with plastic wrap to keep the stripper moist. See if that helps with your paint remover.
I appreciate the tip! We'll try it out.
❤ your channel. Is there a reason why you can't just sand the paint off the plaster walls?
The dust would be tremendously bad, especially if there is any lead in the paint. Liquid and infrared stripping causes it to drop to the floor for easy cleanup and safety of the restorer. Great question!
@1834RestorationHouse
Thanks.... you folks are a real inspiration. I hope to buy an old home some day.... when things change.
🙋♀️❤️!🎄
Hello Margaret!
Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas to you too!
i seen people leave that stuff on there for 12 hours.
Sounds like Kaleb....He's now using a combination of chemical and infrared stripping which seem to be working well for him.
Citristrip is not the best stripper for wood.
What have you heard about it? Any alternatives that you know of?
You need to hire help to restore this house. The two of you don’t accomplish very much at all.
Well geezzzzz finally! Great to see you missed your updates. One of the things I really appreciate about you two is that you are very authentic what you see is what you get. You show everything from your triumphs to your struggles. Please don’t be gone so long this time. Happy holidays and a Healthy Happy New Year!
