Eric! Thank you so much for this in depth review. This is the exact comparison I was looking for. Based on your content, I think this is a necessary addition to the President Bill II that I am running in my Jeep Wrangler. I may grab one for the President Walker III in the Peterbilt as well. I really appreciate these real world reviews allowing for us to hear what the product sounds like to others. I’m sure this video took a lot of time for you to compose, thank you for it.
I have 2 Walkers, & 1 Bill. I love the mic you feature so much, I bought one for all 3 of my Presidents. I highly recommend it for all President radios. At $50 it beats any truck stop mic. The NR does work well, and this mic sounds way better than the stock ones. I set my NR at the middle setting. Little interference with good NR. Cheers!!
Cool mic....I have the Ranger SRA-198. It cancels noise but measuring on my modulation meter. The SRA-198 restricts mod swing. So i went back to stock mic for full swing on the Galaxy 2547
just saw this video, congrats on the new studio and that's a really impressive mic. Love the Timex Sinclair you have on the shelf behind you. Got one of those as my very first computer, hooked to a 12 inch portable black and white TV in the mid 1980's so that brings back a lot of good memories.
@@FarpointFarms good stuff Eric, ya showing your age, lol. Love old school. I started cb in 1971. We were in competition with hams, we eventually won.. 👍
Nice looking mic. Seeing your Uniden 980 reminded me that just last night I was on their website looking to see if they have any new scanners (they don't) and decided to check the CBs. I see they are now offering the PC78 and the 880 with FM. It's too bad they didn't do a 980 with FM.
It's a good mic, I've been using it for a couple weeks now. The N/C feature is good, and as you mentioned, the extra heft of this microphone feels like the real deal. Have fun at Hamvention.
Love it, but does it sound better than a astatic noise canceling mic could you do a review that compares the two and what one sounds and you think is better
Well I know what kind of mic I’m gonna be getting now. One thing I did notice though is it looks like the ANL was active on the Uniden 980SSB so did that affect anything we heard?
I am wanting a new mike for my Bearcat 980 SSB. Have you tested this mike on your Bearcat? It's a toss up between this mike and the Astatic D-104 hand mike. What are your thoughts?
I bought this mic because of the amount of noise the company truck I drive with the AC on and when the engine fan comes on at a certain temperature, I haven't used it yet as I just received it a couple of days ago(6/7) in the mail, I have the Johnny III which is what I got the mic for and I'll see if it would work with my old President George that I got over 20 years ago.
I believe that the noise reduction is powered by the radio. I don't think that it's a power mic in the traditional way. The shop that was in my area would let you talk on different mics in the shop so you could listen on a radio across the room. I found that for me the road devil sounded best. My dad sounded best on a d104 m6b. It was weird how that worked out. The stock president mic seems to work well, however the road devil I held right in front of my mouth the president stock mic I need to hold about 5 or so inches away from my mouth to sound good. I have several d104 base mics and you really need to be mindful what you are doing when using them. They pick up everything. I am not sure if I want to get this new mic or just get a road devil wired up for the McKinley or use an adapter. Thanks for the review and comparison video. BTW like the new studio. However the old one was not bad with the radios mounted on the shelves.
Thanks for the kind words. I've been dreaming of this expansion for 2 years now, and after the beating I took from the IRS this year, I knew it was time to make it happen.
I recently purchased that Mic and I use it on my President Lincoln 2 plus. It is definitely a good quality microphone. By the way did you know you can use that also on your Uniden 980ssb. And the noise cancellation will work and you can change the channels on your 980 from the microphone.
Well..... here's what I think ! I think a better demo would have been you not talking, while we listened to what the microphone did to each of the things you introduced ! As it was for me, difficult to tell much of what was going on, as your audio was quite loud, masking much of the noises you were testing. And from that, all I could notice, was the stock microphone was brighter, and likely would drive the radio harder ! It did seem to pick up background, as would be expected, but no one operates like that, I don't believe ! Not if you want to be understood ! Other than that, I believe with the digi - mic, I thought I could hear digital artifacts from the music playing, but it seemed the more noises you introduced, the louder you spoke, to compensate ! Don't know that you're willing, but would love to hear the Mic work on the background noise only, then introduce your voice as you go ! Otherwise, for me, it was just jumbled up ! Like a used car salesman trying to hide an engine knock, by speaking loudly, hoping you wouldn't notice ! 👉😖👈
@@FarpointFarms I have since found another fellow testing, in much the fashion I requested ! Obviously, this is like DSP you would find offered on most Ham rigs receivers today ! Except Audio in ! Obviously some have more need, " Big Trucks " etc. who's environment needs noise stepped on ! One thing for sure though, it does reduce significantly the Highs like you hear in the stock microphone ! And for my hearing, the stock Mic sounds better ! Like anything else, different strokes for different Folks ? Thanks for your efforts !

Perhaps your hearing is even worse than mine? Even I could tell the deference in my car. On a big rig or dump truck it would be a much larger change for sure.
One big problem with this test. You don't stop talking long enough to hear what the noise blanker is doing. I could hear a little reduction in the background noise, but As a test, big flop...
Wow, that's actually really impressive. It almost completely cuts out the background noise, but doesn't affect the voice pickup at all. That is legit.
I was impressed by this, it performed better than expected.

You could always snip or unsolder the 2 components inside the 198 mic and see if that helps.
I haven't checked the modulation change on this one.
Finally a noise canceling mic for my Lincoln. Just ordered one tonight, thanks for the review!
Glad i was able to show it off!

Not bad about time so this will work in the Lincoln plus II ?
I'm sold this will help put some punch into president radios on SSB .
Yes, it will work with the lincoln.

I am loving the studio as well!
Digimike works great on my Alinco DX-10. Love the heaviness of the mic and that it cuts out the noise.
I agree! It cuts the background noise down nicely.
