One of the best songs of the 90's. ALWAYS on my 90's playlist.
What a great song, came out in 1998 and originally written for the soundtrack of the 1998 film City of Angels. This song is off the highly popular album Dizzy Up the Girl. The song peaked at number 9 on the Billboard charts. A lot of good memories listening to the Goo Goo Dolls back in their heyday. Iris to me had that perfect impact sound that you'll always remember.
It was No. 1 in Australia
The Goo Goo Dolls have lots of great songs like "Slide, "Name", "Broadway", "Here is Gone", "Black Balloons", "Long Way Down"... to name a few. "City of Angels" is a must see movie, for sure. Nicolas Cage and Meg Ryan were incredible!!
I like these reactors, but the statement about people making fun of his voice is curious. The people who criticize the vocal style don't apparently get it. That's not a 'style.' That's the sound of authenticity. That's an original human voice that felt no need to apologize for itself by changing itself either directly or electronically, just to suit sales, or in pursuit of popularity, or even good reviews.
Everything is so corporate now and pre-designed now that just people 'being themselves' now seems worthy of ridicule because they or their actions--or in this case, voice--don't 'fit in.' Well, that was the whole point of the rock and roll rebellion that started in the 50's. It was about not apologizing for ourselves or denying our natures in some Victorian effort to be 'acceptable' or 'liked.' That's where the long hair and torn jeans all came from. It was defiance. It was punk before punk. So thinking he was supposed to sound like some pre-determined, 'acceptable' way is to not comprehend what these artists were doing.
this is far the best comment I've ever read. i wish more people would read this and had this attitude. I think exactly like you. I always say this and I always will think this: There is no better thing than being your true authentic self. Wish you all best wherever you are :)
Amazing. I agree.
His voice is authentic..and everything you said, 100 % facts!!
Agreed! It's crazy times when people think fakeness is better than being authentic...🤪
@@iwonapietrzak5608 I guess if a person grows up with enough fake, then real looks weird. Autotune could have been a nice tool for karaoke, or to fix a little mistake. But instead it became a crutch for people who only wanted to be famous, but who didn't want to truly put in the long hard work required to develop their skills so they could hit and hold the note in reality, rather than just pretending to.
It's an acoustic guitar accompanied by a mandolin.
One of the very few songs that I like from the 90s great tune guys
Buffalo Wings originated at the Anchor Bar in Buffalo, NY. Loved that place.
You guys should watch GGD perform this song live at an outdoor summer concert in their hometown of Buffalo NY. The entire song was performed in a total downpour and the crowd of 20,000 stayed right where it was, getting drenched, singing the song with the band. Its pretty raw, real, and powerful.
👆🏼This is extremely good advice. It’s a superb, authentic performance, and Johnny looks and sounds so cool as the rain absolutely drenches them. Such good times back then! 👌🏼🤘🏼
GGD has always had a good following on the other side of Lake Ontario, in Toronto, as well. Fun live band, especially outdoors in the summer.
Couldn’t agree more!! Truly an iconic moment in live rock history moments!!! ✌🏼❤️
I loved them!! They had great songs in late 90's! ( "Name" & "Slide") They were pretty big in that time. Then it seems like they disappeared. Loved his hair!
I broke so many guitar strings trying to learn "Name".......one of my favourite songs.
They put out a cd in late Sept of 2020. You should check out the song Autumn Leaves.
Forgot about "Long Way Down". 😄
Amazing voice.. simply delicious voice..
Beautiful song 🎶 🎵
You need to see their live performance in the pouring rain on July 4th in Buffalo. Greatest live performance ever ! Check it out. Pouring pouring rain !!!
I've watched that video probably 10 times, and it never gets old.
Hey Ty! You definitely know "Name"!
For real💯
"You grew up way too fast
And now there's nothing to believe
And reruns all become our history
A tired song keeps playing on a tired radio
And I won't tell no one your name
And I won't tell 'em your name"
"I won't tell 'em your name"
"I won't tell 'em your name"
I love this band! Great pick Ryan! The hat is nice, but you have nice hair to show off!
Johnny got the name Iris from a fashion ad in a magazine.
Keep diggin in the goo goo dolls, so much good content
Goo Goo Dolls are so good......90s memories!........Anyway, don't forget, you guys promised some SuperTramp this month. Oh and FYI, my sister walked in when I was watching one of your reactions last week and said the guy on the right (Ty) was cute.
Supertramp has already been recorded! Will be uploaded soon..
@@ViewsFromThe502 Hey Nick, Ty & Ryan, another promise you fellas made (last November) was to not wait as long between ELO reactions next time, since you had waited 8 months to react to your second ELO song, "Tightrope". Well, I'm here with a friendly reminder for ya, that next week it will have been *5 months* since, "Tightrope", and you're already overdue for another one. :D So, take it from me, a diehard ELO fan since 1975, the next song you should react to is their 1977 classic hit, *"Mr. Blue Sky".* Some links use a shorter version, so please use this full-length one from the album. Thanks! *"Mr. Blue Sky"* : ruclips.net/video/s7dTBoW5H9k/видео.html
This is one of those songs where an orchestral piece greatly adds to the overall feel of a song. I would personally say that my favorite orchestral piece added to a song would probably be "Tonight, Tonight" by the Smashing Pumpkins for how it adds to their guitar work.
Now as u see from my name..I was absolutely thrilled to hear of a song with my name..
Well imagine my surprise/chagrin when there was not one mention of "Iris".. hahaha.. Definitely was not great for my self- esteem lol lol lol!!
You guys are really great reactors ....always laugh when your "head movements" are soo in sync !!!
Oh BTW..In your spare time(no reaction )
..watch the "ITALIAN ARTISTS" do an UNBELIEVABLE cover of this song ..!!!!!!
Seriously incredible !!
What color is your iris?
mine is blue with a bit of brown?
@@timothybronson6973
Blue as blue as blue can be....(no surprise having old German Mennonite roots) !!!
There is another version of this video that DOES include clips from the movie.
Dizzy Up the Girl...love love love that album!! 🔥
Johnny Reznik said he had major bout of writers block with this song.
Turned out beautiful.
This is the band video there is a movie clip vid too with Meg Ryan and Nicholas Cage.
One of my all time favs!! ❤👍🏽🥳😁
This used to be my running song too. 🎶🏃♀️
To answer @Ryan's question….. love guys in hats. However, you have a head of gorgeous curly hair....if you've got it, flaunt it😁
Iris by The GooGoo Dolls is played in what is perhaps my most unusual tuning: (low to high) BDDDDD. Here s how to set it up: The low E goes down two and a half steps to B (I use a . 050 gauge bass string); the A string goes down three and a half steps to D (a .....if you tune like everyone else then you sound like everyone else
When I saw city of angels ik that they definitely wrote for the movie once u hear the line you bleed just to know ur alive i don't want to say why that proves it was written for the movie cuz movie is awesome with Nick Cage and Meg Ryan both in their prime Awesome tear jerker
Best performance of this song is a live concert outside IN THE RAIN.
Long way down is pretty rocking song from them
Black balloon out 95 iris 98 but main stream radio outed them early 2000's
A favorite of mine from 7th/8th grade when this came out , it the song for me and a few girlfriends
I’m new to the channel and I must say I absolutely love the content
“Goo goo ga ga” says Ty... but who was the cutest baby? Next time you do this band you should intro with baby pics so that we can proceed to a vote 👶🏼
He sand with Daryl Hall on “Daryl’s House” love it
There are people who think of me every time they hear this band's name. "Hey! She was right! This is that band w/the weird name that girl I worked with at Tony Roma's wouldn't shut up about.
They started as a more hardcore band. Their main influence was the MPLS band The Replacements were their main influence. Their 1st 3-4 records (Self titled, Jed, Hold Me Up
Black Balloon is a great song as well, my favorite. 🙂
Actually this album was FIRE it was so amazing anyone who has not listened to it google their most famous hits they are so worth getting their songs in ur rotation
No I believe black balloon is their best song
Had the movie on VHS lol. Saw the movie too.
Y’all should check out Name and Black Balloon also!
One of my favorite movies starring Nicolas Cage and Meg Ryan!
Oops, meant to say orchestral, not instrumental.
Perfect song for a great movie. Loved Nicolas Cage and Meg Ryan in this movie.
Yes Buffalo Wings originated in Buffalo, New York!!!🐓🐓🐓
I love this song, but love Slide better! Goo goo dolls r great! 😃❤️
Fantastic movie..."City Of Angels"!!!!💜💜💜
goo goo dolls - name
Example of a song bigger than the movie
Great tune coming out of the 90's!
Still no comparison to the magical 70's. 🎸☮️💕
Your rite the 70's will always be the magic of great music 🎶
A time before computers made music, and voices.
@@Ilikeryche that's because they can't sing. Started late nineties. Auto tune. It's horrible they're making millions can't hold a tune in a bucket 😂 then auto tune them they think there singers.
Some one earlier referenced it check out live in Buffalo July 4th, they were told by management to postpone so nobody got electrocuted but they refused to let down their home town fans!!!!! I am a grown man and i was in attendance and in the 2nd or third row of soaked humanity and i was brought to tears!!!!!
Start 2:30 ...............................................
The "acoustic" is the kind of acoustic that's a mandolin and thus not even a guitar.
The movie is utter crap. The original movie it was copied from Wings of Desire is amazing. It’s French/German/ English. My fave movie of all time
