Thanks Jim. Looked at several videos on installing new tire pressure sensors. Your the first one that didn't say I needed a special scanner tool to program the new sensors. Saved me some money!
I always figured that the TPMS light was a golden harp w/ an exclamation point in the middle, implying that if you don't service your tires immediately, you'll soon be playing a golden harp w/ the Man upstairs, Jimmy! Great info, as always!
Another excellent video, Jim. I wish all brands were that easy to do. I sure don't know how we were able to drive for 100+ years without TPMS. Just a royal pain in the ass sometimes.
+wysetech2000 Ya and when you think about it every car out there with the TPMS system the battery's are all going to die in 5-7 years what a pain in the a-s.We always checked our tire years ago why do we need the system anyway.Just an added expense.Thank you for your input and for watching
yeah that was my thoughts also, why why why we be ok without it so far... thanks for the video showing these systems, im glad my cars dont have it but probably can't escape it on the next future 2nd hand cars..
Thanks , my sensor just started acting up the other day and i keep adding air to it and now it shows the tire on other side is low but the psi is 73. Once again thanks for the valuable info. Stay Safe!
Amazing, thank you so much because I inadvertently set my tire pressure system to relearn and now my light keeps blinking so now I know exactly what to do. Again thank you so much
Hi Jim Thanks for sharing your knowledge with the rest of the world. I just got a 2015 Chevy Silverado 1500 , and I don’t know much from the last owner. I can’t get the truck to display tires system on dash, it go’s on all the other monitoring systems, oil, gas, mile’s, but don’t go to check on the tires. I tried to push both buttons on the key remote but I can’t get the truck to relearn mode. I have a EL-50448 relearning tool that I have used for my Chevy traverse 2011.
I have a 2007 chevy silverado 2500 hd my self and took it to dealer today for an oil change and came out with this problem and dont know wat to do since the tires ihave on aren’t the original tires so don’t have sensors 😒 abd they couldn’t do anything because they said it was sensors battery and it need it to be changed .. so i had no idea and thats why im here watching your video to see i can get any help or any idea in what should I do next .. and here i found the soution to my problem 😁.. thank you this video was exactly what i was looking for .. and will see what i can do . 👍🏼😬
An unnecessary system catering to thumbsuckers who won't learn how to use a tire pressure gauge, so we all get stuck with it. Also another profit generator for the spare parts business because of planned obsolescence - a cheap single sensor is about $ 40, so that means $ 200 per car every 5-7 years, exclusive of the labor cost to replace them. $$$$$

I did this twice with the same results !!! like it was all gone got no more lights in the rear could not even check the tire sensor and the TPMS is still on ???? thanks

Hi Jim, what brand do you recommend for tpms on a 2014 chevy silverado? I am upgrading my rims to size 20, and I don’t want to take the sensor from the original wheels. Thanks

Great video Jim.....thanks. I live in Canada and have a 2011 Dodge Ram Outdoorsman Crewcab w 142000kms (5.7L Hemi, automatic, 4x4). The air pressure in each tire (measured with hand guage) is 227KPI's. The info system on the truck shows 3 tire pressures but nothing but a straight line across for the rear right tire. I do not appear to have any of the buttons u pressed re "re-learn the TPMS system" as u used for this GMC van? I am also planning on getting new tires in the fall of 2022 but hate the TPMS light on my dash. Thanks for any help.
hello i have that problem, it turn on so i took it so they could fix it with a new sensor which was $100 plus it fixed it then the other one failed. is there and way just to turn of this system i don't want some thing that cost $400 plus telling me what my air pressure is when something that cost $10 can tell me.
I do it every time but other techs not so much. We do get paid extra to do it so i dont see why the other techs dont do it, leaving hours on the table.....

I have a 2011 Honda Insight. The dealership has replaced the sensors twice.... but the TMPS comes on after driving 20 miles. What else could be the issue.
Hello Jim, I have a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD LT, Service Tire Monitor System show up, front left tire doesn’t show pressure, and the info bottom doesn’t show the relearn tire system. What can I do?
Great Video, 07 Chevy Silverado 2500HD I replaced one sensor due to a random no psi. I am not sure what caused my mystery. I get a a random Phantom dash light blink very fast but can not tell which one it is blinking. I appears green. I inquired to dealer they tell me I have Stabilitrac no Traction control, but my research tells me I have neither. TPMS light is yellow. No DTC. No DIC messages. How can I tell if the batteries are weak? I don't just want to throw new parts at it and still have the same issue. My tire psi levels are indicating fine. It is just bothering me with this random blink.... Thank You
Thank you for your informative video, but I have a question: When I change the right bad sensor, does the car recognize the new one automatically without any additional tool?
No you will need to teach the truck to recognize the new sensor.Follow the steps in the video and you should have no problem. If you need help let me know.
Great explanation on tpms for gm's Jim, what about for asian vehicles ? Like the 8th gen Honda Accord? I think its a lot harder for 2008 to 2012 models of those cars and requires specialized and very expensive tools
I have 2002 Buick LeSabre. The pressure sensor work fine. I bought the car 3 months ago. I need to buy new tires now. Wal-Mart stores told me if the valve stem it will cost 40 dollar's each. Just for the new value stem. Should I replace them? Can you give me any advice? How expensive is the sensor for my Buck? Thank you any advice you can give me.
jimthecarguy If I change the valve stem will it affect the air pressure sensor? I have a 2002 Buick LeSabre. A guy told me this car does not have a air pressure sensor. But a dash light Tell's me that my does not have an air pressure sensor. The light works off the ABS. Can you give me any facts and advice here? I would appreciate it very much. Thank you.
Hi Jim, My name is Teresa Wueschner, I have a shop resetting the Tire Pressure Light. I saw your video we have done all the steps, but i think, as per your vedeo, each sensor hs their own ID #? And also, where can I buy the monitor you use in the video. Thank you so much for your help
Actually the tool that I used was just an air chuck. With this truck you need no special tools to teach the truck to recognize the new sensor . Did you follow my video exactly?
@@jimthecarguy Hi Jim!!! thank you for your answer!!!! Yes, and I did everything you showed but the light in the dash is not going away, then when I saw the tool you used I thought that it was what i needed. I wonder why I am doing wrong that the light doesn't disappear??? I changed the sensors for new ones originals
Maybe you could help me my problem is That when I scroll through to find tire learning position it does not show, Some very mind boggled on how I'm supposed to reset My tire pressure system if I cannot get into tired learning mode, have you seen this issue before?
im almost ready to buy a 2005 chevy tahoe.on the test drive i noticed a message on the dash about the tpms? ive never owned a car like this and the key i used to drive wasnt a special key at all
Years ago I tried the lower air method on my Chevy and it did not work. I took it to the dealer because all I had was dashes at this point. Technician brought out his fancy activation tool( for which now I own one) it took less than 2 minutes to relearn positions.... Yah
Ok I found another video that applied to this setup. Set park brake, turn ignition just to on position (don’t crank), then hold the lock and unlock buttons on the key fob until it honks. Then let air out of each tire until it honks in this order: LF, RF, RR, LR. Done!
What would you say if all 4 are reeding proper pressure but the light is constantly flashing, very annoying. The tire shop reset the system and it went away for 1 day and then came back and again all tires reading 32 -34 with 0 Fault codes. Any advice?
Thanks man, yes I know that is usually what the problem is, but there is no error codes and all sensors are reporting proper tire pressure that is the strange part, it is a 2009 Subaru Forester, I think the best thing is to replace them all, I have no other options left. Again thanks a lot for the feedback.
50 plus years of driving...Never had TPMS...Never ran with a tyre under pressure. And I drove fast & hard back then.... Never had a problem: Now I got a vehicle with TPMS.... I got problems. Put on new tyres & TSHTF. A system designed for the millennials/clean-hands brigade. Look: If you feel the need to instal this nonsense: at least install the option of switching the stupid thing off! But, no..there it is: Blinking away on the dashboard. What a load of shite.
I have a 2009 silverado and it does not have those buttons on the left of the gauge cluster to do all that. I just have the button on the cluster itself.
Hi Jim, I tried twice but when I deflate the right front tire the horn start chirp twice therefore I can't do on the third tire. Please let me know what wrong. I have my new tires and TPMS replaced at Costco, but they can't make the light go away.

Use the little black pin between your speedo and voltage gauge. Keep pressing it till you come across what you need.

plus you get happy customers, when there car says a certain tire is low they know when they put air in that tire that it will be the right tire

Sure thing!
thank you your the man
i like your video great job. and thank you. my question is though how to you start the learn process on a 2011 1500
+Daniel Rubio This is the procedure for that truck.Let me know if it works for you.
Alternate Keyless Entry Transmitter or DIC Learn Enable Method
1.Ignition ON, initiate the TPM Learn Mode using one of the following procedures:
•On vehicles equipped with keyless entry, simultaneously press the keyless entry transmitters lock and unlock buttons until a double horn chirp sounds indicating the Learn Mode has been enabled. The left front turn signal will also be illuminated.
•On vehicles not equipped with keyless entry, press and release the driver information center (DIC) INFO button until the TIRE LEARN message appears on the DIC display. Press and hold the SET/RESET button until a double horn chirp sounds indicating the Learn Mode has been enabled. The left front turn signal will also be illuminated.
2.Starting with the left front tire, learn the tire pressure using one of the following methods:
•Hold the antenna of the EL-46079/J-46079 aimed upward against the tire sidewall close to the wheel rim at the valve stem location. Press and release the activate button and wait for a horn chirp. Once the horn chirp has sounded, the sensor information is learned and the turn signal in the next location to be learned will illuminate.
Warning
Over inflating tires may cause personal injury or damage to the tires and wheels. When increasing tire pressure do not exceed the maximum inflation pressure as noted on the tire sidewall.
•Increase/decrease the tire pressure for 8-10 seconds then wait for a horn chirp. The horn chirp may occur before or up to 30 seconds after the 8-10 second pressure increase/decrease time period has been reached. Once the horn chirp has sounded, the sensor information is learned and the turn signal in the next location to be learned will illuminate.
3.After the horn chirp has sounded and the right front turn signal is illuminated, repeat step 2 for the remaining 3 sensors in the following order:
1.Right front
2.Right rear
3.Left rear
4.When the left rear sensor has been learned and a double horn chirp has sounded, the learn process is complete and the RCDLR exits the learn mode.
5.Ignition OFF, adjust all tires to the recommended pressures. Refer to Vehicle Certification, Tire Placard, Anti-Theft, and Service Parts ID Label (See: Application and ID\Vehicle Certification, Tire Placard, Anti-Theft and Service Parts ID Label).

Yes, and I did everything you showed but the light in the dash is not going away, then when I saw the tool you used I thought that it was what i needed. I wonder why I am doing wrong that the light doesn't disappear??? I changed the sensors for new ones originals
Excalibur Auto Center , check
the spare tire, that’s the culprit..
Maybe you could help me my problem is That when I scroll through to find tire learning position it does not show, Some very mind boggled on how I'm supposed to reset My tire pressure system if I cannot get into tired learning mode, have you seen this issue before?
Hi I bought my sensors at auto zone and took it to tire shop and change them but I don't hear the horn when I deflate the tire can you help
Christ this happened during the winter to me. Definitely batteries. Funny
Oh now I understand
Haha Maybe I should watch entire video 1st
Why can't I get my u508 universal tpms relearn tool to work when I try to reset tire pressure
Nice video,very informative!
Thank you
im almost ready to buy a 2005 chevy tahoe.on the test drive i noticed a message on the dash about the tpms? ive never owned a car like this and the key i used to drive wasnt a special key at all
Danton Steele , get you
a Ram dodge and you wont
have that problem...
Why are the pressures so high? Tires are special?
Is it dangerous to drive the, vehicle when the moniter, comes on
Years ago I tried the lower air method on my Chevy and it did not work. I took it to the dealer because all I had was dashes at this point. Technician brought out his fancy activation tool( for which now I own one) it took less than 2 minutes to relearn positions.... Yah
nice. I have the 2011 LS trim and it doesn't come from factory with those side buttons.
I have a 04 tahoe, and I get some wheels from a friend for he's truck a 2016. still shows on the dash service tire monitor
You will have to teach your truck to recognize the new sensors.Your truck is still looking for the input from the old sensors.
hey jim can you do tis test on a ford exploer let me know thank jim
+pedro rodriguez No this will not work on a Ford. You need a hand held tpms tool.
THANKS JIM KEEP THE VIDIEO ROLLING
Not sure what’s different about the 2009 Texas Edition 1/2 ton but I can never find the learn tire position.
Any advice?
When the light is flashing it means that the one of the sensors is not communicating with the computer. What year is the truck?
Thanks man, yes I know that is usually what the problem is, but there is no error codes and all sensors are reporting proper tire pressure that is the strange part, it is a 2009 Subaru Forester, I think the best thing is to replace them all, I have no other options left. Again thanks a lot for the feedback.
Shiftaholics , wait. What happened?
Love it
Thanks for watching.
If you don't service in a specific time frame, will the check engine light come on?
+Matthew Kuklar No the tire pressure sensor light will not cause the check engine light to come on.
Thank you for watching . Don't forget to subscribe.
I have a 2009 silverado and it does not have those buttons on the left of the gauge cluster to do all that. I just have the button on the cluster itself.
I got two beeps when I let the air out of the one front drivers side tire first tire.
That sensor is bad
just one note you missed, the blinker will light up on tire it wants you to let air out,
What about if you had to rotate the tires?
I'm happy to help. Thank you for watching.
Hi Jim, I tried twice but when I deflate the right front tire the horn start chirp twice therefore I can't do on the third tire. Please let me know what wrong. I have my new tires and TPMS replaced at Costco, but they can't make the light go away.
Is your truck a Chevy ?Did you follow my procedure exactly?
Will my 13 Cruze
Re learn same rim after a snow change over on rims with no sensors 5 month later?
Would this work out right on a 13 Cruze ?
Thanks
