We have a family member with an alzheimers like thing. I watched some psychology videos on caring for someone. Number one tip we found helpful is to divert attention with another subject instead of arguing, telling them something is not true. For example, he tell you he needs the car keys to drive down to the game. Instead of saying there is no game (and you didn't drive last week - it's been months) you say, oh Look who is coming over - wouldn't you like to see this person? (But only if someone really is coming over). It's hard, and I am just trying to say one thing that helps me.
Great video! I do want to mention that, when purging your pantry, If anything is unopened and not expired, why not donate it? I usually end up with a bag of things and take them to a place that feeds the homeless.
The pantry looks great!! I love that you didn't go out and spend hundreds of dollars on everything matchy matchy!! I don't even have a pantry. You did a lot of work and love your genuine authenticity!! Thank you for sharing!! God bless!!
@ACharmingAbode I just came across this video of you reorganizing your pantry. You did an awesome job and it is very realistic. I’m so thankful that I found your RUclips channel. God bless you!! ❤️
The organized pantry looks tidy and functional! Thank you for not going out and spending hundreds of dollars so it all looked perfect. It’s practical and real life. 👏
When I sorted out my pantry last year I came across a tin of salmon that had a use by date of 1998! We’ve moved house 3 times since then so it must have come with us, lol. Sending love from the UK. 🇬🇧💕
Great job and tips. I like to use “containers” I already have first (usually boxes, containers, jars etc.) I live with those reused items until I know what works and doesn’t for the items I typically keep on hand in the pantry. Then as I see better/prettier containers on sale I get them.
One thing more..when using clear containers for anything...cut off of the box or bag what the item is and the expiration date. I use different types of flours, and this has been very beneficial. Great for keeping track of cereal types and expiration date, too.
That’s what I was planning to do ! I’m trying to find it they are small hers are a good decent size , would you know from where she got them she mentioned in the video she couldn’t remember
I also use the tiered shelf for my spices. I found it helpful to write on the lids the contents of the bottles so I can easily know what is in them without taking the several of the bottles out.
We also buy things over & over because if we don't it's the one thing we don't have. I love that your doing a realistic pantry. I started to play into putting things in pleasing containers but yes It never fits. We are in our 50's and don't have near the entertainment life we use to, so realistically who's going to see the pantry I spent 500 on containers for? As a young mom I felt like I wanted to impress my friend group of moms & they were impressed just as I was with the cool ideas they had for their home. TBH I wish I would have spent more time with my kids & less time trying to impress my friends with my spotless home, but glad I didn't make the same mistakes with my grandkids. I love a clean organized realistic pantry for me! So thank you! I don't know how these poor young moms deal with the pressure they see on S.M. from influencers, it's just not realistic if you want to spend good quality time with your kids.
Perfectly well said I’m in my 60’s and my daughter has two children 6 and 4 she’s 43 she says the same thing with ss Tg we didn’t have that. My first born my boy just turned 45 . 😮 I had books that I read monthly stages etc 🌻🌻🌻

It's such a joy watching you because you are what you are! Kind of like what you were talking about the realistic pantry! I think I'm going to the kitchen right now and do some cleaning and organizing. Thank you for motivating me!! Your pantry looks amazing!
Very rewarding to watch before and afters of realistic pantries! Great point about having a container that fits... that does drive me crazy, too, to have a bag of flour fill the container but still have more left.
I'm purging my pantry next week and doing a major overhaul. We're having a heat wave right now so it's a good time to stay inside and work on "projects". Thanks for sharing your ideas.
Yup. When I cleaned out & reorganized my pantry 4 years ago, I thought “oh I’ll take a weekend to do it”. Ha! That weekend turned into about 5 weeks! In my defense, I moved back to my childhood home and my parents left some stuff behind and it was a mess in there. There was a can of pineapples that had DISINTEGRATED in the back corner. We also had a mouse and I couldn’t function knowing it may have gotten into stuff. That is what triggered the clean out. I’m still traumatized! I also went full scale decanting because of the mouse having a field day in a few packages of ramen. Some feel it’s a waste of time & money, but for me, it’s a necessity.
This is a good point that some may not think of. I live in the country and as much as I'd love to think my house is clean and secure, we still get mice, bugs, birds, occasionally a dead rabbit in our border collie's mouth via the dog door. 😳 Keeping food in containers that are bug/rodent proof is essential for some of us. It's not always about looks but why not make it look good if you have to change it anyway? 😂👍🏻 Hope you're recovering from your trauma.. I grew up in the type of stuff you "found," and that would be triggering for me. 😶
@@AmysAttitude exactly! I’m in the suburbs but every home has a rodent somewhere whether they see them or not. I had a bag of bird food that came to me with a slit cut into it. I put tape over the slit and the whole bag in a airtight container in my shed. About a month or 2 later that container was infested with grain weevils! That only reinforced my desire to decant and keep things more organized. I love the aesthetics but I NEED the organization and security that comes with it.
Well here’s the thing…whatever you do has to work not just for you but the other people in your home…especially the hubby. If it doesn’t work for them…it’s not working. Great pantry organization.
Great video Leslie, and yes you are so right you do need to purge when organizing, you just don’t realize how many older items you have that are out of date and not usable anymore until you do this and it makes you feel so much better to open the cabinet doors and see the nice clean organized shelves 😅 if only you didn’t have to go grocery shopping 🛍️ to replace those out of date spices etc. Have a great week, nice job. 👍🙏🏻♥️
What trips me up in my pantry organization is the holidays. I have to buy ingredients I don't normally use, only need a portion of it, then it gets pushed to the back, taking up space until I, regretfully, toss it out. It's expensive. But you've motivated me to clean it out again, and this time paint it a bright white.
Leslie you did a great job decluttering and organizing your pantry closet!!!I took what was a broom closet, refinished it and put shelves in it !!It's not big but it is neat and serves a purpose!! You did a great job as you always do!!!Blessings to you both.😁👍
One thing I would never do is decant cereal. As you use the cereal, there is a lot of air in the container that will make the cereal stale. Leaving it in the original box with a chip clip closing the bag will keep it fresher much longer. I had a huge walk-in pantry in old house. Going to be moving to new house soon and it has a pantry the width of a normal door. Have already bought several lazy susans and those white wire risers, so hopefully I am prepared. Even have a few of the hanging wire baskets that slide onto the shelves. Enjoyed your real life approach for organizing your pantry. Hope I can do as well. 😊
As for the cereal it's probably okay if you put it in one of those containers, if you come from a cereal eating family where the box never lasts more than a week.
Good call on the shorter bins. Nothing should be hidden in the pantry - that's what the door is for. :o) My pantry is currently a disaster - I have 2 young adult daughters at home. We all buy our own food at times. I need to go through everything again, it's so bad!
I have a summer sign in my kitchen that says SWEET TEA TIME! I am serious about great tasting tea too. We have a five stage filter, under the kitchen sink, that even removes fluoride!! On a different note, I love to decant much of my most used foods, especially baking items. I only like containers that hold an entire package though. IF it all doesn’t fit, I have one small bin that hides away the last cup or two of flour or sugar that wouldn’t fit. Most of my containers do not match because I usually find just the right one for flour but way too big for rice so rice gets a different style. It looks great regardless because it functions SO well! This was a great video full of good working ideas that I see I need to tweak already!😃🌺
Love a realistic pantry organization Looks great. I love the process and the result. Just not the amount of stuff I end up throwing out. Its painful. Probably because I don’t do it often enough. My shelves are deeper and it’s actually harder to organize. Things get lost. But watching you tackle yours has motivated me…so Thank You.
I don’t even have a pantry. But I have some miscellaneous organizing containers in my cabinets. Containers do help! Love this video as it is the real deal-the way most of us do things!!!

Great job Leslie! I think my pantry is even smaller; and we’re in the process of redoing it. My hubby is very handy so he’s making storage across the bottom for my pans and a pull out shelf for kitchen aid, blender and food processor. The upper shelves will be for canned & dry goods. I papered the inside of the closet with a cute peel & stick chicken pattern! Can’t wait to put everything back!
