The guards and their horses should be given the respect they duly deserve as they are not there to be ridiculed and I have to say, more often than not, it’s adults not children being so disrespectful as I’ve seen many kids thanking the guards for allowing them to take pics etc something many adults could learn from.

I just think they should be surrounded by a fence quite a distance from the public because nowadays everyone is completely insane so you don’t know what’s gonna happen. Those guards put up with enough.
I totally agree especially with the large numbers of people who attend at Horseguards and how close the public can get to the guards as many tourists don’t even respect the personal space of the guards. Some kind of fence/barrier really ought to be erected to protect these guards who are doing a job protecting the Royal Households but the guards themselves need protecting. I couldn’t imagine going to work every day and being faced with that degree of hassle and I take my hat off to these young guards for the invaluable service they give to this country and we should never lose sight of this fact.
A fence? A panicked horse would soon deal with it and hurt itself while doing so. Also Whitehall is a public street in central London. You can’t fence off a part of the sidewalk/pavement. Londoners use it every day.

Add to that having to find out where Crown Land Ends and Council Land starts would cause even more chaos

The differences are mostly that in ant 'younger' country there is a clear distinction between 'Military Facility' and 'Tourist Attraction' here, in Britain, and in other parts of Europe they are somewhat mixed up, so, if the army and the Met Police are both in control, they tend to be a bit hesitant to come on heavy!
And therefore bringing in the big guns would not be appropriate unless there is danger of death or serious injury, loonies and "Karen's" don't usually come in that category.

I don't know if the punishment parade still carries the "punishment" like it did years ago. Soldiers could be fined to smiling or even talking. If it still exists these tourists are should shut up and move away so that the soldier doesn't get a fine at the punishment parade.
In Holland a guy like that could be apprehanded by the police for suspicious behaviour or causing a disturbence (or whatever they can think of within the law) and ordered to show his id. (In Holland having your id card or passport on you is mandatory). If he shows his id, no problem, and he could get away with a police warning which will go into the system and sent away. Unable or refusing to show an id is an arrestable offence so on go the handcuffs and he's off to the police station.
The tourists need to remember that these are elite , highly trained soldiers , they are there to protect the King and our palaces not there as a mere tourist attraction They deserve respect .

The troopers and their horses should not be subjected to this tourist crap day after day. Yes Britain needs tourism but but not at the expense of the militarie’s dignity. A minimum of a painted yellow box on the pavement is needed, signage saying “Don’t cross the line no petting of My Horse”. The tourist can still have their photos from the side or in front of the painted box. It would take some enforcing initially and would then be the norm. Remember the Guards used to guard on the pavement “outside Buckingham Palace”.

I appreciate the armed police are present to protect the military establishment and it's personnel. Perhaps they should get some volunteers, perhaps ex servicemen/women to assist the guards and be a friendly face to educate tourists and promote acceptable behaviour.
