What lens clean fluid did you use? Is it contains epa alcohol? How this sensor strip works? My problems apears quite rapidly like it was something rapid, not built up dirt.
I used EPA alcohol to clean the focus strip. There is very small grooves in the strip, and it is used to determine where is the position of the motor lever.
@@CamerasLensesEtc thanks, was wondering if epa is not to aggressive for plastic like this - finger crossed that it is only dirty on focus strip in my case :)
@@takitam2521 Never ever had problem with it, so no, it is not dissoving or damaging the plastic.

Hello. I face the auto focuw problem only. The lens seems to work properly in manual focus. I have send already once the lens to service. They said that the only thing they did was to clean the contacts (I do not know if they meant the usm strip sensor). The lens operated properly for a while and then started again to hunt focus. What is your suggestion to solve the problem?. If I clean the USM strip sensor with isopropylic alcohol is ok or I have to use something else (or even change it)? Thank you in advance.
I would suggest to clean the USM strip sensor once again, (not only the sensor, but clean the black plastic part which the strip sits on, and the bottom of the small sensor which slides on the top) then you can see if the problem was the dirty sensor strip.
I used lens cleaning fluid to clean it, and also isopropyl alcohol, both of them are fine.
Do not use aceton, because it dissolves the plastic.
If the focus strip is scratched or damaged in another way, you can buy a brand new one on ebay for around 30 USD.
@@CamerasLensesEtc Thanks a lot for your prompt reply. I will try to clean all these parts you mentioned. Do you think that the next step ( if does not work), is the replacement of the aperture flex cable?
Check if the aperture is working or not. If the aperture is not working and stuck at a small value (high number), then it could affect the focusing, for example if the aperture is stuck at smaller than f/8 (f/11/13 etc...) then the focusing is not working, in this case replace the aperture flex cable first, and then test the focusing.
