  • Inspired by ‪@DougDeMuro‬ (thank you), I made this owner's review of the New Hyundai Tucson after driving it for just about 6 weeks. I have highlighted a few quirks which I notice daily.
    I am not a professional RUclipsr, just trying to share my experience.
    Points highlighted in this video as listed below:
    1. Asymmetric reverse lights
    2. Delicate placement of front headlamps/headlights, prone to damage
    3. Touchless door unlock missing
    4. Missing features: Sunglasses holder, rear seat sunblinds, wireless Car Play/Android Auto (wired feature is present)
    5. Inefficient design of volume up/down, no rotary dial
    6. Forward collision assistance too sensitive, prone to rear-end accident
    7. Gear handle placement interfering with wireless charging pad. European version of buttons (instead of gear handle) is more practical.
    8. Inconsistent location of time display
    9. Phone app doesn't activate automatically when a phone call is made
    10. No USB-C charging ports
    11. Higher turning radius
    12. No user-defined adjustment to change the speed at which lane assist engages
    13. Driver seat auto retraction feature works only while entry; ineffective while exiting. Also, seat memory function doesn't remember (and doesn't adjust) ORVM setting.
    Features which are unique and I like:
    14. Side stick design/feel, and display on the gaze cluster
    15. Drive information/trip info display on the gaze cluster
    16. Three different levels of Auto-AC, and the diffuse mode

    The European model has led rear turn signals and rev light, 4x4 lock and button gear selector. Sun shade in the rear door. Some features of like to see all Type C ports. Longer rear door pocket. Carpet liner on side walls in the boot. The AC controls can be integrated into one large portrait display but keeping a volume knob somewhere near the gear selector.

      You get a smile every time you enter the car. Not a sporty drive by any means, but for the size and space, you have to trade that. 416 Nm power in Diesel engine is enough to keep you entertained though. Comfort and space is top notch.
      I was waiting for the launch of Kia Sportage (initially planned for Dec 2022, but hasn't been announced yet). This is the closest competition for new Tucson. Others in the market (Compass, Tiguan, Hector plus) don't come close, but they are cheaper as well.

      I wouldn't say this for sure. Few features of ADAS are excellent.
      1. Parking sensors and assistance with 360 camera
      2. Collision warning is relevant (auto-braking is the problem)
      3. Lane assist on highways
      4. Smart cruise control. I like it, although few users may not.
      5. Cross traffic alert and active assistance
      6. Reverse assistance
      I am sure, at some point, Hyundai hopefully will release a software update to allow a user to disable certain features for good.

    • @DocAnoop
      @DocAnoop  8 месяцев назад

      Out of the existing models, I don't think there's any in India which can compete Tucson in an overall well balanced features.
      I was choosing between VW-Tiguan, MG Hector, Jeep Compass but also explored Mercedes GLC, BMW X1, Audi Q3. Since I was not particular for SUV-type, I also looked into BMW 3Li, and New Mercedes C-class. The closest I came to buying was BMW 3Li. If someone is not particular for luxury brand, and expect a realistic driving in city, I think Tucson will beat all the models I mentioned above.
      The only model I think can be a good comparison is Kia Sportage, but unfortunately its launch keeps on delaying. Also, we might get the skinnier version of it in India.

  • @ShuvaBrataDeb

    Very good observation. Matches everything i have observed too. My sales guy told to program the button next to call button as "End Call". Yet to try.
    The other problem i have is opening the sun shade without opening the glass. It needs very delicate touch. When its heavily raining I find it very daring to do that. Did you observe the same?

    • @DocAnoop
      @DocAnoop  Год назад

      The shade indeed is very sensitive. I got used to it after practising a dozen or so times. But early on, definitely, a firm click would open up both the shade as well as the glass.

    Hi anoop.
    I have a tucson signature htrac and driven fir around 6500 kms now. I strongly agree and appreciate the observations that you have pointed out.
    To add on ,
    The right side light on thebback is the aft fog lamp ( strange but true).
    Few more shortcomings :
    1. Poor ambient lighting ( very few areas covered(
    2. There has to be a way to disable smart cruise control , it makes the fun of cruise control very restricted on indian highways.
    3. Restricted opening of sunroof.
    4. Trip meter- u liked it, i disliked it as every time i swtich off the car for a break , it resets. Thus the continuity of a trip is not maintained.
    Nevertheless, the way u presented the video was excellent.
    Keep it up

    • @DocAnoop
      @DocAnoop  Год назад

      Thank you for your comments.
      I liked the adaptive cruise control. I must admit that I don't do much highway driving, and also I think Tucson is not particularly suited for enthusiast driving. The body roll and over-assisted steering are segment specific (unless you drive a Urus) and I don't mind that.
      With all this, I hope I am not taking away my stance that the New Tucson is a leader in its segment in India. It checks off most of what we would want in a mid-size luxury SUV. I hope you share a similar experience.

  • @ShuvaBrataDeb

    I would not prefer rhe auto unlock of the door for the following reasons.
    If they were to implement, they also have to implement auto locking when you move away. Thats very tricky. Its not the same as proximity sensor. Today the car can deterministically find when you are near, not when you exited the proximity range.
    The distance when it should detect you are away would depend on the battery power of the key and any additional objects between you and car like pillars, walls or other cars. So, it will be pretty hard to guess when it would auto lock. This will cause more confusion.

    • @DocAnoop
      @DocAnoop  Год назад +1

      I get where you are coming from. I am sure there's a way to do auto-unlocking but not auto-locking, if that creates confusion. More so, lots of cars have auto-locking feature, not triggered by how far you are from the car, but measured by time (if the key is farther than detectable range, for x amount of time). Such auto-locking feature is to guard you if you accidentally leave the car unlocked; not to be used as a main feature.
      Also, the Bluelink smart access of Hyundai Tucson will alert you if you have left the car unlocked and are not attending it.

    1.) The reversing light is only on one side , the RHS one doesn't light up before it's not a reverse light , but the rear fog lamp. It is a common sighting on various German vehicles , like the Vento , Jetta , Passat etc.
    2.) The headlight being in a high impact area makes no sense. It all boils down to the specifics of an accident as to whether the impact is. Also , though the headlight has a convex surface, it is well contained within the farthest point of the bumper.
    3.) You don't want the car to unlock if you're simply around the car having a conversation with someone , hence.
    4.) Too much nit picking with how much the volume increases/decreases with each click. But yes a rotary knob for music and Aircon is always more comfortable.
    5.) The ADAS braking is emergency braking ; better to brake and not have a head on collision. I've found the ADAS breaking very comfortable.
    6.) I agree Hyundai should have given us the buttons instead of gear lever thats available elsewhere. Same goes for the blinds and type C.
    7.) The call buttons are on the steering wheel , aren't they?
    8.) The turning radius is 5.9M
    9.) I'm not aware of any car where the comfort seat slide happens with just switching off the car and also where the side mirror adjustments get stored in the memory as well. I do think you can set those in the 'individual' mode of the car

    Point number-1 correction: The right side clear glassed part isn't functionless , but is most-probably the "rear fog-lamp" with a red colored light lamp bulb inside.
    Look for rear fog light switch in the car to switch it on/off.

    • @DocAnoop
      @DocAnoop  Год назад

      You are correct. I didn't imply that the right side light is functionless (apologies if the video sounds like such). The point I was highlighting was the asymmetry. Left rear light is for reverse, and the left rear light is a fog lamp. Interestingly, the rear light assembly is a 3-light configuration, out of which only 2 are functional. Hyundai put a dummy light on either side, but kept the asymmetry. I am sure there's a good reason; just that I couldn't find any so far.

      I find it very reasonable. I have the diesel variant. With 416 Nm of torque, power is never a problem. The body roll is typical of any SUV-type vehicle. The suspension is little stiff, makes you feel the bumps more, but that's the trade off. Steering is not over-assisted which means you can feel the car, and at the same time the driving is effortless. Driving across the corners is no problem, except a little higher turning radius. Highway driving is also fine. I have driven it at 120 kmph (at the speed limit of the highway) and felt very stable.

  • @kingcharles275
    @kingcharles275 Год назад

    European rule dictates that there must be at least one reversing light and one rear fog light. Now to meet that standard, car manufacturers can either provide 2x2 such lights (thus increased cost) or just provide 1x2 to save the law (and reduce the cost).

  • @anuragkumar-fm7hc

    I realised the Headlight problem Now sir...its a huge Problem...bcoz in India front bumper Damage is INEVITABLE...nd 80k to 90k for its replacement much much more than entry level Luxury cars (x1, A series, Q3,Xc 40 etc)😐😐

    • @DocAnoop
      @DocAnoop  Год назад

      True. Hyundai needs to sell the light housing unit separately from the light bulbs. That way, if there's damage to the housing but the bulbs are working, then you replace the housing (will still be costly but not as much) and reuse the existing bulbs. The technology exists because if you get the bulb damaged/not working, you only replace the bulb and not the entire housing.

      I find the built quality very good. I would say Compass is on the heavier side compared to Tucson.
      There are 2 shortcut keys at your disposal. You can program one of the key to directly take you to adas settings where you can disable the front collision. It takes 2 seconds literally. But yes, you need to do it everytime the car starts. I am hoping Hyundai will get a software fix for it at some point.

    I dont think ADAS features should be implemented at all for Indian roads. No one and absolutely no one adheres to any traffic rule at all. In that situation, if you have these automated overrides, you are bound to get involved in an accident because others dont know how to drive.
