  • Understanding the Star-Delta Starter: This device is crucial for reducing the high starting current of induction motors. Initially, the motor begins in a Star wiring configuration, utilizing only one-third of its rated current to significantly cut down on the starting current.
    This setup is essential for protecting the motor from electrical overload. As the motor approaches 80% of its rated speed, it seamlessly transitions to a Delta configuration. In this phase, the motor runs on full power and current, enabling optimal performance for continuous operations.

      I have seen star delta motors in the US. It is common for larger motors where a soft start isn't used.
