  • I bought a truck that I don't fit in!! And it's time to fix that. I picked up a new steering wheel from CJ Pony parts that has a nice classic look and is a lot smaller than the factory one. If you need a steering wheel puller I have provided an amazon link below, but to be 100% honest if its a 1 time use just rent it from Autozone, NAPA, advanced discount, etc... save your money for your build.

    alot better but since the adaptor added so much of the height back could be better. too bad it wasnt more lowprofile to get even more distance away

      I did give me quite a bit more room. Thou I do agree I wish I gained more from it. But I expected it to still be snug. That's why I changed out the bench seat to buckets, in another vid, to move me further away. Which really helped.

      There are quite a few cars I really want to build, but man, these older cars were just not built for big boys. Sometimes we just have to mechanic the crap out of them. 😁

    Well theres the obvious thing to begin with, Yet that seat is is wwaaayyyy too high wich pushes you into the center of the cab then theres that steering column that puts the steering wheel in the center of the cab, Get slim bucket seats or remove half of the padding maybe more then shoten that column by six" that aught to get that belly more tward the center of the cab instead of up on the dash or you could start working out and do those mods yet the choice is ultimately up to you

    Nice work. You probably have already but 0000 fine steel wool will remove some of that chrome shine but you probably will have to then use some mother's wheel polish.

    I seen someone do the same thing, however they changed the whole steering column. The new column is much shorter closer to the dash.

      I am working on doing a full crown vic frame swap. When I do, I plan on adjusting the height and distance of the colum to help keep my costs down. But I have looked into a whole new colum if i can't make the factory 1 work after the swap.

    I've been pondering the same situation, not that I'm too big (I don't think so) but it looks confined. My intentions are to swap the column stick to auto. GM 👍style auto tilt chrome or paintable of various lengths for under $200 . DONE

      Leaving weight out of it, its is a small cab for someone around 6 ft or taller. Yeah im debating an aftermarket collum myself. But since I'm swapping out the whole chassis to a grand marquis chassis I'll be able to move and modify the mounting location because it will now go into a rack and pinion with a custom steering shaft. And i want to try to that make it work 1st before i spend money on something I already need to modify.

      @@AcesGarage My end goal is power disc , power steering automatic and moving the tank to the rear. I don't think that's asking too much . Just updated conveniences. And ya a space between me and the wheel.

      @Robert Arthurs that's a solid build plan. That was my original plan for my truck but I just so happened to stumble upon a really cheap grand marquis.
      Just putting this out there in case you don't know already. People are using 69 mustang gas tanks in between the rear frame rails to remove the tanks from the cab. They are cheap and fit very well in between the frame rails.

      @AcesGarage  Год назад

      I was looking at using a Chevy tank for my conversion. But for me since I'm using a full crown vic chassis, I am going to use a tank from a 69 mustang, it will fit better where I'm going to install it.

      @Ace's Garage for me I find it easyer to mount the crossmember in frame im not to good at 4.6

    • @AcesGarage
      @AcesGarage  Год назад

      @@PeterHatch-mx7zc only changing the cross member and installing a 408 small black was my original plan. But as I looked over my truck more my frame is not in great condition and the entire suspension was shot. So it was cheaper to buy a whole Vic and swap the entire chassis than it was to rebuild my entire underside of my truck.

    Im looking to buy a chevy c10 1970 but do to my size 6'4 380lbs i dont think i can fit ive driven a ford f100 but the steering wheel was pressed up on my gut and i had to hunch down to see. any ideas beside weight loss witch is what im doing at the moment and moving the gas tank make more space

    • @AcesGarage
      @AcesGarage  Год назад

      I'm not on the Chevy if moving the gas tank gives you more room or not. I know on my Ford it doesn't allow the seat any further back. Just opens up a pocket behind the seat.
      1st thing I recommend is to swap out the steering wheel for a smaller one and get 1 with a shallow offset so it doesn't stick out so far from the steering colum.
      The seat risers on the older trucks are pretty tall, so if you want to stay factory look you can cut and modify the factory brackets shorter. Or you can swap to bucket seats and make shorter brackets. C10's do have a pretty good amount of aftermarket support they may make some that will bolt right in.
      You may run into the same problem I did when I lowered my seats. The brake pedal was to high so I had to bend it a little to be more ergonomic. I have vids posted on both of those mods as well.
      Another option that I will be doing in the future is getting a diffrent steering colum. One that doesn't stick so far out from the dash.
      I did all those things and have gained a good amount of room. I'm not going to be taking a cross country trip in my f100 with the space I gained but more than comfortable for daily driving if I want.
      The Chevy Cabs are also bigger than the old Fords.

      @@craigloukota2330 i was worried anything smaller than a 14 inch would look to small for my trucks look. Just be care full that you don't go to small of a steering wheel if you dont have power steering. Ive made that mistake before. 😥
