I just hiked from Logan Pass up to the Garden Wall / Grinnell Glacier Overlook and back again (October 2024). >24km in total and 7.5 hours, including rests. Tiring but the views are quite spectacular. I started around noon and so I was hiking in the dark with my headlamp for the last hour. Although I had spotted the chalet, I didn't know anything about it until your video.
It's definitely a beautiful and intense hike! Actually did it the way you suggested at the end - out and back, with the extra bit up to the Grinnell Glacier Overlook. Also had a bit of an intense and scary encounter with a mountain goat on the narrow part of the trail near Logan Pass. They look cute and cuddly normally, but not right at that moment, that's for sure!
For us personally, your video have the ability to bring out a range of emotions from viewers, may it be happiness,🥰🤩 wanderlust or curiosity, immersive visual and heart-pounding sound. Your travel video with a perfect balance of these attributes keep us engaged throughout the entire length of the video and leave us wanting more. Congratulations........
OMG! Beautiful scenery! Mother nature at her finest! I admire you doing this hike for me I would be too nervous! Great hike through Highline Trail in Glacier NP and awesome to see this through your eyes!
Thanks for an actual informative video, with some simple but important stats and options!! Tired of the videos with people trying to land modeling contracts instead of actually showing the trails and the beauty around them. I can't wait to hike this trail with my 20-year-old son this coming July, where he will undoubtedly kick my butt, regardless of how much I prepare. Now I know what to expect on the hike, as far as difficulty and options to make it better. Keep doing what you're doing and thanks again!
Going to be hiking 4 days in July 2025 at Glacier. Staying at the KOA for 5 nights in East St. Mary. Tenting it for sure! Thanks for the information. Already have these trails and others plotted out on my Giaia GPS app. Thanks again. Happy trekking!✌️
What a lovely place on earth! It’s soooo stunningly beautiful and magical to be on the top! Lovely how informative this video, too! I wanna go thereeeee~ 😍💓
I love your Channel. You provide a lot of useful information to those who are planning to visit. Beautiful Glacier national park.👌I would love to visit all the places you have covered on your Channel.
That was an exhilarating walk with you ! Quite scary in places but very veryi beautiful. Glacier National Park seems so beautiful . Thanks for the scary beautiful in the edge tour ! (Loved it !)
You have put together a fantastic route! Great pictures of an impressive nature in Montana, cool time lapses. Have a healthy and Happy New Year. Kind regards from Germany
very good information, we haven't actually done this particular hike yet, good to know how you can shorten it too if you didn't want to do the whole thing, plus the views are just so amazing. We plan to return to Glacier for my birthday in September... great place to stay the night up there at the chalet too. Great that you saw all the cool wildlife too. We saw three grizzlies right off on our first hike, first 5 minutes... scary.
This got me thinking of Logans Run!! This pass is the scariest I have yet to see. Definately full hiking gear and real good boots. The Glacier trail at 11.2 miles is just inside our limit for a days hikiing. Terrific upload. You guys are amazing. Thanks for this share Stoof & Nate!! 💖😍👍✊
I hike from the loop, and we biked down ( previously locked at top, 2006), last year I parked at loop and hitchhiked back to car. the loop trail is steep hill, a knee killer if you are not careful when going down. next time I want to do the overlook over Grendel. but its an awesome hike.
We just completed option 2 but added the extra mile to the garden wall. Lessons learned- we were at West Gate before park opened just to get a spot at Logan’s Pass. The Garden Wall offshoot is NOT for the faint of heart. Very strenuous getting up and can be sketchy AF getting down. Total hike was just short of 16 miles. Stunning hike!!!
Thanks for the great video! Quick question - how sketchy is the first part of the trail (the section with the drop-off to Going to the Sun Road) in terms of passing people? I feel like it could be unnerving having to step aside to let others pass, especially if they wanna pass from the inside...
We both were fine with it, there is definitely a wide enough space on the trail for two people to safely pass each other along that section of the hike. If you have a strong fear of heights/being near cliffsides, then let the person coming your way know that and they will likely go around you on the cliff side. We encountered a few people that were very nervous on this section of the hike and we went around them on the cliff side so they could feel safer by the wall. Have fun on the Highline Trail! :)
Thank you for making this great overview of hiking the highline, we are thinking of trying this trail next year on July 4 th weekend. Do you know if this would be to early?
Going to the Sun Road is usually fully opened by end of June/early July so you should be able to do the hike! If they happen to get a lot of snow this winter it may be too early. You may still encounter patches of snow on the trail in early July as well. Have a great time in Glacier NP!
This is the video I've been looking for as I have been researching this trail. Thank you! In your opinion, would you hike out and back to the Sperry Chalet or to Grinnell Glacier overlook?
I wish we did the Grinnell Glacier overlook while hiking the Highline trail, especially since we hiked to Grinnell Glacier another day that week and saw it from a different angle. I am not familiar with the Sperry Chalet. Have a great time on this incredible hike!
I'm not sure if the St Mary visitor center lot fills up.. We parked there around 7AM to catch a shuttle and the lot was maybe 1/10th full. We visited in 2021 when we had to have shuttle reservations. There isn't a lot to do at the St Mary visitor center parking lot other than go into the visitor center or catch a shuttle or walk outside right around this area, so it didn't seem to be a popular parking lot.
I do not believe there are any shuttles in the Many Glacier area. The shuttles are on Going To The Sun Road (more shuttle info here: www.nps.gov/glac/planyourvisit/shuttles.htm ). If you wanted to hike Highline trail to Swiftcurrent Pass to Many Glacier Rd, you'd have to organize a ride back to Logan Pass (or wherever you parked along GTTSR).

GREAT walk-through (!) of the options for this trail. You have truly helped me in my planning for 2023. Cheers from Canberra
Thanks so much! Have an amazing time in Glacier!
So helpful, thank you for all the information and commitment to show us that view!
Thank you for your kind comment! :)

Like 13! You guys are going higher and higher! Whew! Why do I have a feeling the Himalaya! Lol
haha! thank you! This hike starts out 6,600' elevation then goes downhill for the last 9 ish miles so it's not too bad!
Sending my full support 💕
Good job friend 😁👍😀😁
Thank you! Cheers!
Great info! Did the St Mary Visitor Center parking lot fill up early or at all? If so, how early will we have to get there to get a spot in Jul? Thx

How about hiking on to swiftcurrent ? Is there a shuttle back from there to St. Marys entrance ?
I do not believe there are any shuttles in the Many Glacier area. The shuttles are on Going To The Sun Road (more shuttle info here: www.nps.gov/glac/planyourvisit/shuttles.htm ). If you wanted to hike Highline trail to Swiftcurrent Pass to Many Glacier Rd, you'd have to organize a ride back to Logan Pass (or wherever you parked along GTTSR).
Big like
What month did you go to the park?
We visited in August!
Can you hike the high line trail in reverse so it is downhill, if how.
Hi - the route 1 option linked in the video description is the route that hikes mostly downhill.
What time do the shuttles start running?
Depends on what side of the park you need to catch the shuttle. More info here: www.nps.gov/glac/planyourvisit/shuttles.htm
