Though his voice has lost much of its power (as expected given his age), it has gained that attribute's former quality in the form of it's wisdom, experience, and ability to captivate. In some ways, his voice is BETTER than many years ago due to those qualities. The only other Irish voice that can match him at this age is his ol' buddy Paul Brady, who by no coincidence is also in the top 5 of best Irish singers of all time. God I'm in awe of this man, and if he were more known than I think we would all be much more peaceful. On a side note, jesus that Fylde Bouzouki is just about the best one I've heard, period. And I've heard him play his Sobell's as well!
@@BlackVelvetIL The octaves are in an unusual configuration though- and I've never seen the A strings be wound. Is that just something people do on shorter scale instruments to reinforce the tone?
@@sageboatman It is interesting, I imagine probably a Greek influence, since Greek bouzoukis have octave pairs on the bass courses, with the higher of the two strings strung below the lower strings (this being different from, say, a 12 string guitar which has the higher octaves string above the lower ones.)
@@sageboatman Octave strings in this configurations (bass strings up) are not unusual, though many players who are used to 12 string guitars place them down. Many Irish bouzouki players use wound A's to get a fuller sound, not just on shorter scale instruments.

Had to pause at 2:00, what an interesting string setup 🤔
Exactly what I was thinking
It's tuned GDAD with octave strings on the two low courses
