- In this episode of my 2001 Kawasaki KX250 build I install the engine, modify and install the exhaust pipe, install the tank and fire the bike up for the first time! A few things left to do for the bike to be finished - stay tuned for episode 8! Should I do a custom seat cover?

Nice bike, I envy your work to bring new life to a older Kx. But to people watching this Ryan is a smart guy. The TX kit is over priced and the gaps are horrible in the air box area. It is cobbled, hacked up and thrown together. Ryan does it right!
Yes, I think if I were planning to ride the bike long term I'd be disappointed with the kit. That said, if I cared enough to rip a KX250 long term I'd probably just run stock plastics. But overall I can see the TX race kit getting seriously damaged after a few crashes. I'm not as concerned about the side panels as the shrouds; I think the aluminum shroud mounts will bend. But regardless I am happy with my decision for this build, and the bike is currently sitting in my living room as a show piece!

probably oldest person in here i be 52 in September i was in my teens in 80's and in my 20's in 90's and so on pretty much all dirt bikes was 2-strokes unless you are buying a enduro motorcycle. but i cant get use to today's dirt bikes 4-stroke. to me it sound like a enduro motorcycle 🏍 just saying..

Hey how did you get decal works to match the plastics from TXrace?
They match a 2020 KX450F, and require super minimal modification. And I got the fork guard graphics for the 01 KX250 of course.

Did you figure out the leak? My 94 is leaking from the cylinder bleed screw, and seems like there’s fluid leaking at the same cover yours is.
In this case leak ended up resolving itself once I heat cycled the bike a few times. I think it was just a unique case of the aluminum and gaskets needing to expand and contract to seat themselves properly.
did you have to use brackets for the restyle kit?
Yes they come with the kit
How did you polish the clutch cover like that, and where did you order your plastics? I got a 99kx250 I’m rebuilding
I used Pryme MX cleaning wheels on a harbor freight bench buffer. I do it in episode 3 of this build series. This clutch cover was covered in paint beforehand! You can use my referral code on the Pryme website: prymemx.com/?ref=push
The plastics are the TX Race restyle kit. They look great, although getting the tank on and off is pretty tedious with the kit (not bad, but much more time than stock plastics) and I could see some of the hardware bending in a crash.
DONT put a wheel to you clutch cover like this guy did. Those are made out of magnesium and they are painted from the factory for a reason. Raw magnesium in the elements....bye bye good looking clutch cover.

Could someone send me these plastics? I have a 07 kx250 but I don’t like the old plastics and want newer ones but idk which ones fit (when you go in store they’ll give you the year/ style plastics that are already on there)

Those TX kits are just not a good way to restyle a bike. The way it leaves gaps around the airbox is not good by any means and how they don't match up with the subframe on the left side drives me nuts. And the seat with a bolt thru the top is absolutely silly. Honestly if you take a fall how well do you think its going to hold up with all of those chincy little brackets that hold the plastics and seat on? My guess is that its going to look like a yard sale with parts laying all over the place lol remember this isn't about you as a builder its about TX Race and their poor quality.
Yeah I didn't know what to expect going into it. For the price the brackets should be higher quality. I don't mind the bolt through the seat although a little goofy. As for the airbox I don't see that as an issue personally; a lot of modern bikes have a sizable gap like that. Overall I really like the look of it, but I agree it may not be the most durable long term.
@@KincadePavich I've been making a 15/16 plastics conversion kit for the 99-02 kx125/250s and the 94-98 kx125/250s for a little over a year now. My kits use the 12-15 kx450f/13-16 kx250f subframe, airbox, gas tank, seat and plastics. I put a video on my channel but its just a start up walk around video of the completed bike. I also shoehorned an 02 kx500 motor into it.
