    00:38 - Slow kata walk-through: embusen 1 from opening move to first kansetsu geri
    02:53 - Embusen 2 - maegeri, empi uchi, gyaku zuki
    04:16 - Embusen 3 - shikodachi and kosa uchi x 2, jodan age uke, awase tsuki (kiai point)
    06:33 - Embusen 4 - Ending of the kata morote ko uke
    07:26 - Detailed explanation of ko uke
    10:37 - Performance of Sanseiru sequence

    Another clear and informative video on Sanseru kata. This kata is quite asymmetrical as a substantial part of the kata is executed with the right side of the body ( kansetsu geri; mae geri , empi uchi ; chudan uke. I have seen some schools trying to " balance the kata by extending (thus modifying) the kata and performing kicks with the left leg also. Thank you and Zoe again for all the effort.

      Truly a difficult and amazing kata - it takes many, many years to get even a basic handle on it, and a decade or more to master it, as much as anyone ever masters anything in kata.

    As I listened to your explanation about the moroto ko uke I laughed at myself. Seems like the time I spent on nikyo and sankyo exercises I worked on my wrists and tend to be comfortable at awkward angles. At least I will just have to remember upward middle finger, sideways second finger.😂😂😂

    • @GojuRyuKarateCentre
      @GojuRyuKarateCentre  6 месяцев назад

      Nikyo and Sankyo never go to waste! Loved both of those in my Aikido days!
      There will always be arguments between styles over which fingers must touch, but the important thing to remember is that the ko uke does a great job of smashing jaws lol!

    Watch the kata at the end it’s correct in that kata.
    Kept it in , shows that even I make mistakes, that I need to train, correct and have to keep working. ( a lesson within a lesson)

    Sensei, I've seen some videos on this kata performed where the punches after the elbows are low as if punching the groin. Is that just their way of doing it or a different interpretation of the kata?
    Is Goju Ryu around the world fragmented in a way that shows very different kata variations?
    sorry if I ask too many questions

    • @GojuRyuKarateCentre
      @GojuRyuKarateCentre  Год назад +1

      Hi
      That’s very much the case, Every generation of seniors tends to split after the sensei dies, then variations occur. Many are very subtle , they are often based on the Bunkai so it also means a wide variety of Bunkai and ideas.
      Some schools are however trying to minimise this by creating standardisation documents and videos,
      Sadly many karate ka are not great writers so some schools have many interpretations of what sensei said or did.
      Personally I love the variety and depth this has developed into
      Che

      Hello!
      There are enough significant differences that if you are grading, then it is best to find videos by someone in Shorin Ryu. But if you are just enjoying Kata for the sake of Kata, then our videos can be of help 🙏🏻
      Thank you for your question, and for taking the time to watch and comment 🤗

      Hi, Tony!
      Unfortunately we don't, as it isn't part of our syllabus and we don't know it well enough to cover it, and a quick search doesn't reveal any practitioners that we can recommend, as it's outside our style. But hopefully someone will cover it one day soon!

    Che is in constant domestic abuse situation and he tries to cry MAYDAY MAYDAY MAYDAY out but nobody pays attention to his desperate call for help! Although he still shows us with his dog/mantis pose at the end of this kata: look, I'm overworked as a dog despite my chest pain (I may guess he's got a serious blow here with some kitchen utensils!) and you know whom to blame (a hint: a female mantis bites a head of her male mantis partner off). Now you know. Now you must join their membership program or he's doomed! Hurry up! I mean, osu!
    Regarding history (and on the more serious note but it was very serious above nonetheless), sanseru is a crane kung-fu Fujian Baihe-quan form (kata) coming from the line (Minghe-quan) of Liu Long Gong (Ryu Ryuko), a.k.a. a teacher of my teacher's teacher's teacher's teacher and also the latter's teacher as well. Think about unshu-gata (unsu in Shotokan that was made from Shito-ryu version in 1945) which is a crane (baihe) in a style of arhat (luohan) and such MMA stuff wasn't uncomon (e.g. Sokon Matsumura as predeccestor of Shorin-ryu making seisan/seishan from the crane's seisan). But how tigers named Heihu-quan from Shandong came into a play in Fujian, is beyond my understanding, even they claim being a part of Shaolin (lol, it's Luohan-quan again). But a variant of crane by Zhou Zihe (or Shu Shiwa), who was born in Hunan but practiced Fujian crane (Hunanians claim it was tiger because Hunan and Heihu, right...), is Uechi-ryu now and their sanseru is quite different.
    A dog then? Meh, these Brazilians with their form of judo on the beach... :) So it's a crane. Very agressive and hard (i.e. Go) form that links sanchin with suparimpei through seisan (it's good Chojun Miyagi thought about this and made seipai as Ju for us). But enough of my ramblings, we need to help Che!

    • @GojuRyuKarateCentre

      Bwahaha, join the memberships or Ché will keep getting overworked like a circus pony by his thug wife 🤣🤣🤣🤣
      But levity and jokes aside (I don't have any topics to film right now, hence why I haven't appeared on the channel for a while) - this comment is gold for tying together the historical threads of the kata across continents. I love that it sets up nicely for Suparinpei later - the callbacks across the katas never ceases to delight me.
      Thank you for bringing a big laugh to my day - I needed it 😅

      You are absolutely right - too many people only look at the surface, and they don't know their history. Everything you need is in the kata, but it had to be hidden so that only worthy people could use it, and not just any thug.
      Thank you for watching!
