    The sleeping sun joke was hilarious! I almost died laughing! Lol. I am excited to see the animation become available on steam, and this makes me even more excited to see their take on the Lusitania sinking! One suggestion I might make for a sinking in a future video would be the sinking of either the Empress of Ireland, the Sinking of the Republic, or the sinking of the Andrea Doria. I know the Doria isn’t connected to the White Star Line, but it is a shipping disaster. The same could be said with the EoI as well. Another suggestion is after Titanic: Honor and Glory releases, you guys should totally release the completed sinking animation from a similar or the same view as you’re original animation. That is, ONLY when the game has been released, and perhaps, (depending on when T:H&G releases,) make it on the next anniversary of the ship after the game is released. I think it’d be fitting for that to happen!

    Even though the 2000 tv movie Britannic was not the worst simulation on the sinking of Britannic. There are still many inaccuracies with the film. For example, the ship was sunk after a German spy bombed the vessel when in reality it struck a mine. Also the Gantry davits are painted yellow instead of brown, and the worst offenders being the way the ship sank, and the fact that the ship carried passengers...

    You should of mentioned her new HUGE gantry lifeboat davits, they did the job and then some. They not only permitted boats to be stored beneath them as usual but inward on deck in piles where they could swing inward, hoist, and then swing outward and lower them away. They were so large that they remained effective even with a substantial amount of listing to either side of the vessel. And they even had lights on top of them for use at night. They're precisely why all of those souls made it off safe and sound.

    • @jonathankirsch2121
      @jonathankirsch2121 5 лет назад

    Even if her career was cut short due to circumstances beyond her control (WWI), I think Britannic had the most noble end to her career.
    Rather than simply be scrapped like Olympic, when Britanic met her end, she was faithfully serving her country and acting as a shelter to protect life. And her sacrifice was not in vain. Her mission was accomplished and her country's victory was attained.
    She paid the ultimate price like a great many soldiers did in that war, but even in death she continues to serve life right up to this very day. Today Britanic acts as a shelter for the life that lives beneath the waves. She offers shelter for many fish and other sealife so that they may grow big and one day give life to us.
    Britannic did her duty. And now she has the right to rest easy beneath the waves.

    While Violet Jessop certainly had a knack for bad luck, her fate wasn't unique. There was a stoker who also survived both Titanic and Britannic as well as being onboard Olympic during the Hawke incident.

      His name was Arthur John Priest and he followed the same path as Jessop. He joined Olympic, transferred to Titanic and, like many of Britannic’s crew, served aboard the hospital ship due to his familiarity with the Olympic class.

    You know, Britannic was always my favorite Olympic class liner. Sure, Titanic was the most popular, but Britannic being the biggest just amazed me as a kid....I would have loved if she would have survived and actually managed to beach herself on Kea, to then return back to service as a "war veteran". It would have been poetic in a way...

    The keel for Britannic was laid on 30 November 1911 at the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast, on the gantry slip previously occupied by the Olympic, 13 months after the launch of that ship, and the Arlanza, launched only 7 days prior. The acquiring of the ship was planned to be at the beginning of 1914. Due to improvements introduced as a consequence of the Titanic disaster, Britannic was not launched until 26 February 1914, which was filmed along with the fitting of a funnel. Several speeches were given in front of the press, and a dinner was organised in honour of the launching. Fitting out began subsequently. The ship entered dry dock in September and her propellers were installed. Reusing Olympic's space saved the shipyard time and money by not clearing out a third slip similar in size to those used for Olympic and Titanic. In August 1914, before Britannic could commence transatlantic service between New York and Southampton, the First World War began. Immediately, all shipyards with Admiralty contracts were given priority to use available raw materials. All civil contracts including the Britannic were slowed. The naval authorities requisitioned a large number of ships as armed merchant cruisers or for troop transport. The Admiralty paid the companies for the use of their ships but the risk of losing a ship in naval operations was high. The big ocean liners were not initially taken for naval use, because smaller ships were easier to operate. RMS Olympic returned to Belfast on 3 November 1914, while work on Britannic continued slowly. The need for increased tonnage grew critical as naval operations extended to the Eastern Mediterranean. In May 1915, Britannic completed mooring trials of her engines, and was prepared for emergency entrance into service with as little as four weeks' notice. The same month also saw the first major loss of a civilian ocean liner when Cunard's RMS Lusitania was torpedoed near the Irish coast by SM U-20. The following month, the Admiralty decided to use recently requisitioned passenger liners as troop transports in the Gallipoli Campaign (also called the Dardanelles service). The first to sail were Cunard's RMS Mauretania and RMS Aquitania. As the Gallipoli landings proved to be disastrous and the casualties mounted, the need for large hospital ships for treatment and evacuation of wounded became evident. RMS Aquitania was diverted to hospital ship duties in August (her place as a troop transport would be taken by RMS Olympic in September). Then on 13 November 1915, Britannic was requisitioned as a hospital ship from her storage location at Belfast.

    5:43 what actually sealed the fate of ship was the open portholes that the nurses left open for wounded soldiers to get fresh air.(As at the time A/C didn't exist.)because the mine explosion flooded six of her watertight compartments.(which is her maximum limit.).

    Dear Tom. Britannic's beam was always intended to be 94 Feet instead of the 92.5 Feet beam of the two earlier sisters RMS Olympic & Titanic. The original and authentic reasoning behind the 94 feet beam was to increase the Britannic's stability and thus therefore maintain her ideal metacentric height. Mark Chirnside's original research has proven this fact at the time of her laying down and not the post April 15th catastrophic Titanic sinking fallout that induced the Britannic redesign and subsequent refit to the Olympic respectively!

    • @NikkiChan92
      @NikkiChan92 5 лет назад +1

      You are correct Troy. Yes in October 1911 ( Citing Mark Chirnside's *Olympic + Titanic + Britannic* book and noted on his website www.markchirnside.co.uk/hmhs_britannic_Q&A-myths.htm ) a month before her keel was laid Britannic's intended width was documented as 93.6 feet molded, 94 feet extreme. This change contributed to her greater tonnage and displacement.

    • @troycullen738
      @troycullen738 5 лет назад +1

      Additional weight or especially more top weight (known as "Top Hammer" in warships) changes an ship's Metacentric Height which can adversely affect an ship's stability e.g. excessive rolling in an seaway etc. Negatively affecting an paying passenger comfort!

    0:27 huh weird, The keel for Britannic was laid down on November 30, 1911 on the gantry slipway No. 2 previously occupied by the Olympic till she was launched on February 26, 1914 as every ocean liner enthusiast knows yet there was another ship called the SS Statendam as you mention in 3:43 being laid down from sometime in 1912 to July 9, 1914 when she was launched on the same slipway... Is this some kind of conjoined shipbuilding in the works or did they perhaps mistake it for the smaller No. 1 slipway on the left of it or even Titanic's slipway No. 3, Hopefully you guys would have the time to look at this and solve the mystery behind it.

    An old Nightwish song is the unofficial theme for the Britannic? Because of one RUclips music video? Okay.
    Sabaton too? Man, Tom has great taste in clothes AND music. Class act.
