    Even if her career was cut short due to circumstances beyond her control (WWI), I think Britannic had the most noble end to her career.
    Rather than simply be scrapped like Olympic, when Britanic met her end, she was faithfully serving her country and acting as a shelter to protect life. And her sacrifice was not in vain. Her mission was accomplished and her country's victory was attained.
    She paid the ultimate price like a great many soldiers did in that war, but even in death she continues to serve life to this very day. Today Britanic acts as a shelter for the life that lives beneath the waves. She offers shelter for many fish and other sealife so that they may grow big and one day give life to us.
    Britannic did her duty. And now she has the right to rest easy just slightly beneath the waves.

      and to make it better, the sinking of the Britannic is really what preserved the Olympic class for us. unlike the depths the Titanic are in, Brittanic is in warmer Mediterranean waters, and don't have the issue of the metal eating bacteria. the ship remains in good shape today, and is actually at a shallow enough depth to dive as a technical diver. however its hard to get permits as the site is considered a war grave and the ship itself held in private hands.

    🇬🇧My respect today goes to the sinking of the His Majesty Hospital Ship Britannic, her crew, medical staff and the 30 victims of the sinking. Today 103 years ago the largest hospital ship of the proud British Empire hit a mine off the coast of Kea and sank in 57 minutes taking 30 crewmembers with her (most deaths are believed to be caused by the propeller blades). She never had the career she was meant to serve on the North Atlantic route and only briefly saw her interior fitted out. The last Britannic survivor was George Perman who died in 2000. My respect goes also out to captain Charles Bartlett and his officers (who all survived the sinking) and the 2 wireless operators who sended distress calls even trough they could not receive any response. 🇬🇧

      BBF Is Single ...Didn’t Titanic sink listing heavily to port? I thought that occurred due to Scotland Road flooding on E Deck and causing a weight imbalance up until the ship broke in two. Unless you mean after she slipped under the waves.

    • @hazyhope._.
      @hazyhope._. 4 года назад +4

      I'm a little late, but BFF Is Single means that the Titanic may have sunk like Britannic did, if the coal from the starboard side of the ship hadn't been moved to the port side because of the coal fire. The displacement of weight made Titanic list to port slightly throughout the course of her voyage. Even Lawrence Beesley noticed it. And since Titanic listed to starboard quite a lot during the start of the sinking, maybe if the extra weight on the port side wasn't present, the ship would have listed more to starboard and ended up capsizing.

It's a shame that people haven't dived it more or explored to show us the engines and power generation and other spaces we couldn't see on the Titanic. Makes you wonder if some of the original fitting out was left on the ship in any of the rooms.

    • @kyleenglot9184
      @kyleenglot9184 4 года назад +2

      Maybe the Britannic didn't reach a critical angle like Titanic. Also she was more listing to the side which means the ship was actually being supported more evenly by the water against the hull. While titanic had a bit of a list, she sank much more upright and this probably caused more stress than usual... If you look at most common ship sinkings they almost always roll over onto their sides before a final plunge... Titanic was very unique and different from this and many like this, so the effects must have been different too.

      As far as a “safe steam engine”, I highly doubt that’s accurate as there are many instances of steam engines without a governor built in.

    • @pyronei
      @pyronei 4 года назад +1

      A large amount of water suddenly filling a space that was just air has A LOT of force behind it. Far more force than a bit of rain. You have to remember, gravity is not the only force pulling this ship down. It's also pressure of the water flow which is pushing down on the structure.

    • @K9TheFirst1
      @K9TheFirst1 4 года назад +6

      Ship funnels are a lot more fragile than they appear, being made of a lower grade a steel than the hull plates. You can see this in the wrecks of ships of the era, where the hull is still recognizable as a ship, but the best condition possible for the funnels is a pancaked shape. Usually all that's left are the steam pipes and a vaguely funnel-shaped outline of rust.
      As for why they fall when the water gets to them, it's because of the water pressure on the outside is greater than the air pressure on the inside. You can see this in the Titanic's wreck: In the holes where Funnels 1 and 2 stood, you can see that the steel has been pushed inwards. With the structural support destroyed, the funnel collapses.
