A nice video, Thank you. I am English and I love Bucharest. The point I would like to make here is that nearly everybody under 30 years of age can speak excellent English. Also, the older people can also at least understand what your English means. My limba Romana is fairly basic and I always have a language dictionary with me. I am improving! :-) The Romanian people are very appreciative of tourists and usually are exceedingly helpful if you have a problem. I have many examples of help, assistance and friendship happily given to me. The only people who may try to con you are the taxi drivers, often from Poland or other Eastern European countries. NEVER take a taxi from the airport. The bus service is quick, fairly frequent and cheap. The inexpensive buses and metro are good, but they do not go everywhere. Also, the buses are not like in most western countries. They seem to change their routes for no apparent reason. :-( I may one day understand why... but I will not hold my breath waiting for the answer.... :-) There are many, many more parks and sights to see and things to do than in most other capital cities. My favourite park is Gradina Cismigiu. In comparison to Herastrau, it is tiny. However, being small, compact and beautiful, I could easily spend a whole day walking around it and it is so quiet there. Plus, it is close to Piata Unirii, which is usually judged to be the centre of town because it is closest to the old town and is easy to find. Thanks again for your video. Living in Bucharest as a tourist is not expensive.
Luca Tiru: Thanks for your comment. Unfortunately, we have Uber cabs in my home town. They are dangerous, rude and expensive. I do not trust them. When I visit Bucharest, the apartment manager has a list of reliable taxis. My warning about taxis is for people who are new visitors... and you NEVER get a taxi at Otopeni - Henri Coanda airport. :-)
Thank you, GeoM. On my first summer holiday there, I drove around Romania. When I had spent a week in Bucharest six months before, I was recommended by a Bucharest hotel receptionist to visit Sighisoara during the Festivalul Mediaevala. I adore Sighisoara. I only had a short time and a long way to travel.... :-D . My tour included Alba Iulia, which had a one way traffic system because of work on the bridge south of the city. There was nowhere to park and the traffic system was crazy! Then to Sibiu. I stayed a couple of nights there. Then south through Hunedoara and a lovely Romany town with newly built mansions. I never discovered the name of the small town. Then onto Petrosani. Then to Drobeta Turnu Severin where I stayed the night. Next day onto Orsova and the Decebal Cliffs and a trip along the Danube. In the late afternoon I made my way to Alexandria and I stayed the night there. The next day, back to Bucharest. I know I missed many sights on my trip. It was badly planned by me and I did not allow enough time. It was no help that my SatNav sometimes worked and sometimes did not. It was replaced as a failure! Next time I will be better prepared... I hope! Since my first visit, the exhibition of the Cucuteni at Iasi has been opened. I must visit the exhibition.
TheUncleBilly you should come to Brasov. it's a really nice city, has great buildings and was the green capital of Europe a few years ago. Also is an hour away from The Dracula Castle

One of the most useful things was just walking around showing prices, thanks for the info! It looks like Bucharest is a hidden gem that more people should visit.

I just want to thank you for this exploration, this was coming handy for. I was actually searching for more detail information about the city, and your video is the most valuable! 🙏🏾
It's no secret Romania isn't exactly the greatest of countries. We're but a Eastern European country that's doing its best, despite all the blows constantly received from our corrupt government, image in the West and most importantly, ourselves as a nation/as people living here (after all, our biggest enemy is our own mentality). So nonetheless, Romania has its ups and downs, yet you've chosen to only highlight the good things, for which I must thank you. This was a really well done video, showcasing some of the few beauties our humble capital has to offer. There's bad people everywhere, what matters is seeing the positive stuff in what you're doing (especially when traveling). I hope your stay here was great and the people you've met nice enough! Best wishes from Brasov, Romania.
L. George - I think it is the greatest country in Europe, but you are right about government corruption. It's being dealt with slowly. I think you should promote Brasov, the finest of all Romanian cities. Bucharest is nothing special (except the wonderful Athaeneum) and parts are best avoided, as in all capital cities. But towns like Brasov, Cluj, Iasi, Sighisoira, Sibiu, Oradea and Timisoira are fantastic, with astoundingly beautiful landscape between them. The Black Sea coast has great beach resorts, the rugged Carpathian mountains are breathtaking and the romantic Danube flows through the country. Plus the smiling, welcoming and hospitable people and the ridiculously low cost of living make it easy and relaxing. The big downside is the train system. The trains are painfully slow, they are often dirty and smelly and they break down a lot. Take the bus alternative where possible. Travellers usually know how to be careful and sensible, but Romania is much safer than most other European countries. I'm not sure about your mentality claim, I find Romanians proud and patriotic - and yes, very nice! Like the Polish people, they see the funny side of things and love a joke. But they are - like you - aware of the negative perception because of a tiny minority, the government corruption and the (wrong) idea that Romania is a poor country. The easily checked reality is far from that. But I DO have a warning about Romania - stay away if you are afraid to fall in love - it will win your heart and soul.
I think Romania is stunning, coming from the States I wasnt really sure what to expect so I was pleasantly surprised. Would Definitely come back in a heartbeat ❤ such a beautiful country
Really good video, I enjoyed it. A Romanian myself who lived in Bucharest for 5 years and worked there as a journalist before heading for the UK as an immigrant, this brings back memories. I miss that big, crazy city, and now I will be going with my partner to visit in June.
The Coldest Inhabited Place on Earth: Oymyakon, - a temperature of −67.7°C (−90°F) recorded at the weather station. Maybe best not to visit mid-Winter where it averages -50°C (unless you are a polar bear)...
L Raul Lei they are Lei not Ron. The guy pronounced ok fata de voi care va uitati toate obiceiurile românesti fi-var somnul cel dormiti in spalarea creierului agitat poate va treziti.
Hi Jason, I am glad you have visited our public park Herăstrău. It gives to the British people a clear vision about the Romanian park concept in comparison to the British parks. Years ago, I have visited 4 parks in London, Kensington Gardens, Hyde Park, Green Park and Buckingham Palace Gardens. I was more than disappointed. Great video. Obviously, you are that kind of tourist who does NOT spend his time in bars dragging girls, but trying to see something interesting about the places you are visiting. Bravo !
Nice video Jason, I am from Bucharest but currently living in Sheffield. There are many cheap and nice places in Bucharest, roof-tops are the best cuz it gives you a nice visual about the city. Also Palace of Parliament is the second-largest administrative buildings in the world, after Pentagon. It costs just 10-12 pounds for a tour. Good luck with your journey!
Hey! Are you still in Romania? I am also making youtube videos from my travels in Romania. Now I have only 5 days left. Good to see your videos. Good luck!
If you are going to visit Romania, I recommend visiting Cluj-Napoca. In my opinion, it has much more historical structures that are gorgeous. It also has great museums and is much cleaner than Bucharest.
Usama Fayyaz you’ll need at least $1500-2000 dollars tops if you’re staying at a hotel. From there on 90% of the stuff are really affordable, goes for restaurants and bars as well.
@@cesardpd6099 I think that this guy went to "Springtime" and "City grill" in the old town. I agree with Davidescu Vladimir, they are bad. "Pizza hut" is bad as well. I personally like "La placinte".
Thank you so much for showing the beauty of my country and good part of it. Thank you for showing other people from other countries that Romania is not all about corruption and not at all stealing and things people heard or things that they believe which are not true at all , the good part of it , the culture , history , food . It makes me really happy to watch the video and it really gives me hope that my country will became one the most visited European countries later on . You are doing an amazing job !
Hey! I will go to Romania this summer. I'm gonna stay 40 days in Oradea, accommodation is provided. There is kitchen. And there is 50 percent discount in bus system because I am a student. Can you help me please? How much will I need?
My last time of many in Buc was in 2009 but price wise very little difference. Always thought of 1 lei equal to 20p. It was a bit different when there was 10000 lei to 20p. You could be a millionaire for £20!! One time of many when I went to Herastrau I took the boat trip. Bit closer park to the centre is Cismigiu. Now following all your vlogs
The money was changed in 2005,and 20000 old lei=2 lei. The currency in Roma ânia is like this: 1£=6 lei noi.And actually 15000 lei was a book in 1989 (the year when the comunism is dying)
I appreciate this video because there are a lot of people that think Romania is a poor country or it's very polluted. But you are an exception and thank you very much to share your impression for this beautiful country! Here are another famous turistic locations that will be worth visiting them. Coloana Infinitului (Infinity Column), Poarta Sarutului (Kiss Gate; sorry but I don't know how to translate these names ;) ) and Masa Tacerii (Silent Table) are sculptures made by Constantin Brancusi. You can visit them in Targul Jiu. Also you can visit famous resorts at the Black Sea: Mamaia, Eforie or Mangalia. Besides, you can see Delta Dunarii (Danube Delta). There are a lot of birds and species of fish. If you prefer mountains, you can go to Varful Moldoveanu, the highest peak in Romania. Also you can go in Moldova (nope, there's a region in Romania called Moldova, it's not the Moldova Republic) and visit Iasi. Iasi is another big city in Romania. There you can taste the super-duper-delicious chocolates Bucuria, but they're cheaper in Moldova Republic. If you want to try traditional Romanian food, try sarmale (cabbage or grape-leaves stuffed with meat), mamaliga (a corn product that is often served with sour-cream), mici (cillindric meatballs, it's freakin' good with mustard :p) and cozonac (a cake with cocoa cream in) I hope you enjoyed this country!!!
Hey Jason, I love what you are doing. I have been binge-watching your videos all week. Straight to the point, informative, well-made. I'm glad to have found you a few months ago. I'm adding you to my Similar Channels list. Also, I'm living in Bucharest at the moment and traveling around Europe. wow, so an English guy comes to visit romania and a romanian girl visits UK an even moves here ( It's me lol) I love how u say lei, and those prices aren't cheap at all :D
RebelGirl why not? You mean you can spend less? I’m going there next month can you give me good tips about prices like taxi restaurants etc Grazie mille molto gentile Ps sei la classica rumena bona? :)
From a tourist view point without any knowledge is cheap and looks fair enuf. But yes can be cheaper i mean i would never pay 50 lei for a shared room with 8 beds. You can get better. Also the menu you show to us is quite expensive. 8 lei only for fries ? :O Anyway good video.
Enjoying watching different posts of Romania as I am going in April 2019.I will visit Lasi and Bucharest.Really looking forward to it as it my first time visiting here.🇹🇩🇹🇩
for you is cheap as a foreginer, but for who is living & working in RO might be not so cheep. For example, Medium Net salaries are only 2196 Ron = 481.21 euro. BUT many employeers in private sector prefers to "hire to black" that means he is not paying taxes to the state. afer paying you 2196 Ron Net he has to give plus other 1649 Ron = 361.35 euro - as taxes (means medium Brut salary 3131 Ron = 686 euro), and yes, that means no retirement pension and no registered working hours for employee. After all for this salary you must be very experienced in your domain but is not compulsory, usaly first years they pay minim salary => 1065 NET = 233.37 euro and it does not matter if you have finnished 1/2/3 universities or you are just cleaning the streets and have no studies. In my domain (veterinary) there are only private clinics and hospitals and many and majority employeers prefer this kind of "deal", for example 8 h / day, from Monday to Friday and 6 h/day Saturday and Sunday (1 weekend working and one free) for a REGISTERED veterinary technician is paied 8 Ron/ hour! That means per month = 1472 Ron = 322,80 if you have the luck to have this salary Net as we say "in the hand" but if you want to be employed with papers... you will have the minimum on econmy 1065 Ron Net. So tell me it is cheap for romanians now? What can you buy with this salaries, can you make a family? can you develop your studies further? how can you have your own home? can you own even a dog? I think the most cheap meat is the whole chicken, if you want to make a decent food, and 1 kilogram the cheepest is 10 Ron/kg = 2.3 euro , the chicken breast is 28 Ron/kg = 6.44 euro. Now lets see for 2 persons (couple) living in a very cheap rent 1 bedroom apartament = 1000 Ron - 1500 ron = 230 - 333 Euro with salaries each 1065 groceries per week 250 Ron buying just the strict and necesary things , per month 1000 Ron... and you are lucky if you remain with the rest of 65 Ron but it doesn't happen! Ouuu, you have to pay also the monthly maintenance of apartament, internet, tv, phone subscriptions around 300-400 Ron =80-100 euro. And imagine when you are student, single, no parents to sustain your studies and you can't work 8 h/day and go for a univeristy you do not have time, so from here starts the issue of education and the problems of Romania, no education, stupid people because of the lack of education, poor people, very bad quality of life, in hospitals even you pay thru your salary the taxes (if you are truly hired) you must pay for your medications and tratament and I m not reffering to Private hospitals. ex.: if you want an ultrasound you must Pay the cream used for ecography!! And I think I told everything.
Thanks for your comment, lots of information. This is a travel video, and so my aim is just to give viewers (including Romanians) a taste of how expensive things are in Bucharest. I don't dispute the fact it may be expensive for some, and I sympathise with some of the issues you've raised!
This is so sad to read, especially when one takes into account the situation in Denmark, Norway and Iceland where prices are really steep and of course reflect the level of earnings there. Such inequalities derive from general government handling of state's natural resources and services, often misused through corruption and favouritism, something not uncommon in southern Europe's countries. Of course, this last fact reflects also the state and mentality of a certain society's structure and quality of people. Corrupted mentalities give birth to corrupted politicians and civilians.
irondasgr It goes back to the days of WW2 and a bit later...It's not just people's fault, it is also about the history and the geographical position of Romania..
Salarys in Romania in Euros in 2017 : Nurse 1000 -1300 Euros , Police officer over 1500 euros, IT engineer up to 5000 euros. Stop only looking at the lowest unqualified people if you want to make a fair image of the country ! . And BTW 100 euros in Romania has the purchasing power of 280 euros in Britain ! So if you want to compare the salary from Romania with Britain , multiply them by 2.8 . Cheers !
tourist advice: if you want to cook your own meals while you're there, chose ingredients such as vegetables from the normal market, from small farmers they are way better than the ones sold in supermarket and always use mineral water or fountain/wheel/spring water which you will find free outside the big cities. And by cooking your own food you will save even more..Cheers!
All these romanians complaining about their wage and political problems. You should stop. This is about traveling and how expensive is Romania. Eu înțeleg că este o diferența mare intre Romania și celelalte țări dar în orice video este menționată România vezi aceleași comentarii.

The Coldest Inhabited Place on Earth: Oymyakon, - a temperature of −67.7°C (−90°F) recorded at the weather station. Maybe best not to visit mid-Winter where it averages -50°C (unless you are a polar bear)...

Maybe it's cheap but the salaries here in Romania are 3-5 times less than most european countries
AgletDC The salary here is roughly 250€
AgletDC You're mad. If you are trying to say that we have a rich country, that must be a joke...Romania is a medium-developed country.
275 euro in momentul de fata
In Romania, the monthly wage is now 275 if not wrong.

Really great video you made Jason! Bravo!

If you are going to visit Romania, I recommend visiting Cluj-Napoca. In my opinion, it has much more historical structures that are gorgeous. It also has great museums and is much cleaner than Bucharest.
I AM SO HAPPY YOU VISITED MY CITY🤗🤗🤗

you are welcom everytime
Usama Fayyaz you’ll need at least $1500-2000 dollars tops if you’re staying at a hotel. From there on 90% of the stuff are really affordable, goes for restaurants and bars as well.
Usama Fayyaz you get free breakfast at some hotels too
Usama Fayyaz you could bring at least half of that, or more in case you plan on shopping a lot

Finally no one makes us ghipsies. Thank you dude :)
@Remus adevarat.
Haha, I bet! Yes, Cismigiu is also nice and worth seeing.
The thing is that the money changed , this is the new "lei" , 5 new lei equals to 5000 old lei
actually 5 new lei (RON) = 50000 old lei.
meerweeN what are u doing here??
The money was changed in 2005,and 20000 old lei=2 lei.
The currency in Roma
ânia is like this: 1£=6 lei noi.And actually 15000 lei was a book in 1989 (the year when the comunism is dying)
In Bucharest i bought pastry filled with cheese and spinach .. it was mind blowing !!!
If you want to try traditional Romanian food, try sarmale (cabbage or grape-leaves stuffed with meat), mamaliga (a corn product that is often served with sour-cream), mici (cillindric meatballs, it's freakin' good with mustard :p) and cozonac (a cake with cocoa cream in)
I hope you enjoyed this country!!!

They are not so cheap because of the romanian salaries

for you is cheap as a foreginer, but for who is living & working in RO might be not so cheep.
Cheers !
@DDFlash Can you tell how much does approximately an apartment cost to buy?
I went to a youth camp in Romania and I love it so much
tourist advice: if you want to cook your own meals while you're there, chose ingredients such as vegetables from the normal market, from small farmers they are way better than the ones sold in supermarket and always use mineral water or fountain/wheel/spring water which you will find free outside the big cities. And by cooking your own food you will save even more..Cheers!
