Totally agree. Rogla lights up the races he is in. Which he could stay out of the crashes and give Jonas and Tadej a run for their money on the Tour next year. Still, I think Bora has to step up a notch or two as a team to enable Rogla to compete for the GC victory.

@@ChrisHornerCycling Realisticly Rog have very slim chances to beat Pog, regardless if the Bora riders surpasses themselves. I guess they have to do something really spectacular. I have fond memories of the Vuelta in 2017 when Nairoman snatched the title from Froome on the ambush stage to Formigal. Also loved how Esteban Chaves and Orica got on to the podium on the penultimate stage by excellent tactics. Guess Bora needs to do something like that (while Jonas and Pog are watching each other)
@@tonyg3091 Pog is worth every victory. Still I hope you are wrong. Or at least that there will be competition to the last day. The Sky train years were so boring to watch.
Cav had many unlucky seasons in a row but was able to show this year that he could still hit that world class form. I think the same is possible for Roglic too and I’m really hoping to see it!
There's more stress in the tour de france, the sprint stages are more dangerous as there are more top sprinters, as opposed to la vuelta where most stages are for climbers, puncheurs, breakaways and few sprint stages.
My heart sank several times seeing you crash Chris. Similar feeling watching Rimoz crash. Love to see two great competitors race like the wind for the win. Yes, I vote for Primoz to stay and display good form because he is a proven competitor in a grueling sport.
This echoes thoughts I've been having all season. It's astonishing what Roglic has achieved despite facing so many challenges. I love Pogi but he should thank his lucky stars that Roglic doesn't have the best bike-handling skills, gets easily distracted too often, and has just plain bad luck sometimes. Because bike-handling skills and focus are solvable problems. And if Roglic solves those problems, he could easily become Pogi's worst nightmare.
Bike handling Is part of Cycling but despite that in which competition roglic has a chance against pogi or vingo the only year where he had team and good legs he Lost tò a 20 years old. Ok It was pogi but still It was his First tour and he had a Monster team with domulain and wva and still manager tò lose. Good rider yes but he can only win with pogi and Jonas out
Right. I agree with you. All of Roglic’s problems could be solved, it seems anyways. Certainly riders such as Pinot never were able to completely solve their problems, so we have seen good riders retire before they did. But there is still time for Roglic 🤔🦋👍🤞
With every crash comes time for contemplation. His career stands for itself, excellent pro with an ability to teleport to victories up most climbs, tremendous flair and style on the bike despite his (many) crashes. Racecraft wise your point stands. Not the ultimate touch and feeling that riders like Tadej Pogacar and Mathieu van der Poel have Can handle the brutal pressure that comes with crashes and a view missed opportunities at the Ultimate price. Bounced back every time. Strong and full of grit. Despite cycling being a team sport which he understands. A man of his own and he can do what he wants to do.
The rider that has made me a passionate fan these last few years is Primož. After this last tour crash I had to accept the fact that his health is more important than my happiness as a fan. I would love it if he’d stay. It’s exceptional that he didn’t come up on bikes & he’s achieved what he has. But the lack of years of bike handling is so dangerous for him. I wish I was as passionate about the other superstars. I just can’t make myself get excited about the others.
I truly hope he doesn't retire. My favorite Rider. Roglic has the goods and the personality to boot. He's a family Guy for sure and you can see that after each race stage. Wife and kid are always front and center. I think he retires after next year or maybe 2026. He's had a great run.
Yes on all counts. And the reason I criticize Primoz for all of his crashes in big races is because he deprives us of exciting GC battles we'd all like to see. 100 percent right about Tadej -- he is so savvy about avoiding body slams into the pavement, even when it looks like he's being super aggressive. On top of everything else. Thanks for all your expert commentary this year.
Primoz is my favorite of the top 4. Wout is right there for me. You have to hand it to Tjadeh. MDP too. Thanks to Chris -- he's a teacher. Should be a coach.
If he keeps the bike upright he can ride with anyone and win anything. That said, unfortunately I think the lasting image for many fans will be the ITT at the TDF in 2020. I'll never forget watching the timer on the screen as Roglic's buffer kept getting lower and lower and then went into the red, then the look on his face as he approached the finish. Really bad day.
I don't want to see Primoz retire. Maybe he's in his feelings right now. Like many others posted, other racers have had terrible crashes, down seasons, and lost form. But nearly all of them came back and performed admirably. Even our man, Chris, has had his fair share of gnarly crashes and come back from them.
Roglic is my favorite rider, and will be as long as he's still competing. You're right on the money Chris. His weakness is sometimes he puts himself in bad positions and doesn't see crashes coming. I think that may be because he started cycling at a much later age than nearly any other top pro. He's also suffering from a bit of bad timing. He just happened to hit his top form at the same time maybe the greatest cyclist ever came on the scene. At this point, I would concede that only Pogacar is the better all-around rider when both are in top form. Jonas may be a stronger GT rider but he doesn't race ANY one-day races. Roglic has won many big "one-days." And I still think he's a stonger climber than Remco when both are at their best. I hope he stays around for a few more years. He makes every race he's in more exciting.
He is not on the Pogi's level, but for sure is the best about strong mentality. After so many crashes he came back maybe even stronger and win some race.
I agree that Primoz is one of the top 3 or 4, but not sure how you think he could ever be at the level of Pogi. Have you ever seen Primos have the ability to leave everyone way behind? When Primos was at his best, he got beaten by a young kid called Pogacar, and now that young kid is coming into his prime. He doesn't stand a chance against Pogi now.
The young kid called Baby Pog was neatly handed his tiny ass over to him by Primoz in 2019 Vuelta 😅 Of course times are different now, Baby Pog turned into Pog the Destroyer and Primoz is entering the last years of his career so of course he is not able to compete with the best cyclist in the history of cycling anymore.
You obviously haven't watched Roglic enough. But hey, you already know more about cycling than Chris Horner, so why bother? I believe, and I have told my cycling friends this (which h they scoffed at), that an on-form Roglic CAN climb with Pogacar. And I don't think anyone has a better sprint finish at the finish of a tough climb than Primoz. He has had bad luck at the TDF. But that in no way diminishes the fact he is a great rider. Actually, I will call him a great racer instead because he's a real competitor. Keep racing Primoz!
Right on Chris 💯 I was wondering if he might be thinking about hanging it up. Just the way he rode the World Championships and his overall happiness. I definitely want him to get as close as possible to your record 🙌💫 ! I can totally see why he was disappointed at not winning the Vuelta last year because how many times will you have the chance to win two Grand Tours in a season. 🖖 Thanks for all the great chats ! 🦋💫👊
As good as Pogi is a bit of a stretch! Definitely great though, he needs to work on bike handling and heal from crashes this year and get his head right. Ill add that if Pogi comes in to better form next year than this year the organizers will probably institute a 5Kg weight addition to his bike. 🤣
Chris, how about a video about strategy for the gravel worlds? It looks like the tactics are the same as for a road race, except mixing it up with the age groupers on the final circuit for the men.
Why anyone would ask himself if Primoz is going to retire just because after all the crashes and magnificent results in the season is not on his top level at the season end? He simply needs to be racing with his new team to make it once again a perfection and GO to tour with the best possible options we can be sure that he will do everything possible to beat other riders . 💪
Tadej is poetry in motion on a bike - his vision and positioning are uncanny. I hope Primoz stays, but it's too late for him to acquire TP's vision/race-craft. (Also someone should tell primoz that his TT bike changes are costing him time)
Roglic has not done a tt except at Basque Country (which he won) when he was 100% fit. This season. That said, Remco is still a very special TT rider also, which won’t help Roglic look very good in a tt to often. 🦋🤔👍
In 2025 will see that for sure. Pogacar wants to win every race, so la Vuelta should be his next goal (and maybe Roubaix, I would love to see that battle against van der Poel).
He is good, but he does hits the headlines in a spectacular fashion. For instance, Primoz win of the Vuelta was a quiet affair compared to vibes drawn by pogacar in the other tours or even the 2023 win by Kruss at the same event. The wins of the MVDP, the Wouts or the Remcos commands bigger vibes. He is of course a fantastic rider.😊
Chris, I was hoping you would do a review of gravel worlds. It was a Knucklehead Festival for Team Belgium, but it seems like the Alpecin boys were riding for Vanderpool. Stuyven was really upset.
9th Primoz is a competitor. I don't think he will retire this winter or next. I think Bora will start getting ready to prepare with a new gc guy though.
@@ericvonhellens8822 I'm pretty sure his contract explicitly states he is the sole GC leader in 2024 and 2025 (unless he has really bad injuries or doesn't perform well enough). But he knows his time is almost done. Really hope he makes it or at least gets close in 2025...
It is a bit late for that, don’t you think? Like Primož is lacking of coaches? He had best coaches existing. And I believe Primož’s career is a bit better, with all due respect…😅
Roglic is my sentimental favorite, but only Jonas can do Tadej's numbers and then only in the alpine stages. Of course, you don't know but that is my impression. Maybe Remco can get there, for Primoz I think it is too late. So retiring at the top is a valid option, not being a one day rider limits his options. Certainly his wins this year were a lot more exciting than watching Tadej's Zone 2 rides with a final interval.
I think one of the things about Roglic is he's fearless, when I go down a technical hill full gas I get a bit scared and slow down, I don't think Roglic gets that (as much) and I think in a way this is what leads to some of his issues, I don't think the alarm bells start ringing quite so early I'm sure he gets them, but they come on a bit later or when the danger level is already higher.
Disagree over Roglic being as good as Pogacar. A 21yo Pogacar without a team beat a prime Roglic in 2020. This year version of Pogacar is the best rider ever.
Old guys don't bounce like they used to. Roglic is still young enough to bounce some but, how long until he gets into the shatter like an egg stage? I wish him the best.
0400 in Denmark here. Could u make a video about what u think uci should do to make the sport more safe. I rather see my favorite riders on the bike than the hospital ❤
Primož should be numero dos on your 2024 Butterfly Effect list as Vuelta and Dauphine wins trump 2nd at Tour, O Camino, Tirreno-Adriatico and Tour of Poland won by Jonas. Now mention of the word "retire" is not good as it indicates he may not be the killer anymore. He is the favorite if Pogačar is not in the race and is a dark horse in the Tour and would need Lady Luck as Tadej won't let him stay close by long range attacks and TT difference. But that finishing kick in last 1km would be fun to watch vs any top dog. Great take I am glad you addressed Roglič. What would you recommend to him as his schedule next year?
Official he has finished second and few other spots but I agree with you, that Roglic needs another good try at the TdF for some redemption before he retires. 🤞🦋👍
I don't think people really understand how he was a vital part of Pogachamps world win race, Him, Tracnik, and Pogy worked the perfect plan in my opinion
I wanted Roglic to win a tour but I don't think its doable anymore. He has amazing skills and he's fast and can change his pace agressively but I don't think he can deal with the tough alpine stages with Vinegard and Pogadcar
Having a lot of crashes seems to be a major issue on many riders having goten into the sport at an advanced age. Roglic , Zülle, Froome and maybe you know some more examples. Theses riders are awesome on a physical level, but they are not as good on bike handling, positioning and tactical awereness as riders who started bike racing when they were children or at least teenagers. There seems to be a natural window of opportunity to learn those things at a young age. If you miss that, things will become complicated.
Primoz iz amazing and I hope he keeps racing for many more years. BUT...Tadej has progressed so much since 2020 he's now better than Primoz in every aspect of bike racing by at least one step, if not more. Race craft, awareness, bike stability, tactics, endurance, recovery, change of pace, long hills, short hills, steep heels, decent, time trial, day races, one week races, grand tours, team strength. Primoz in top form doesn't beat Tadej in any of those individual aspects of bike racing, let alone in a combination of them in a 3 week race in a grand tour. That's even before we consider time is not on Priomoz's side. It's really hard to see where Primoz would take any time from Tadej, unless he's injured or he's covering off Vingo / Remco. For example, just look at how hard Primoz had to work for the Giro win against Thomas in 2023 and Tadej just wiped the floor with Thomas this year. And Primoz is just not consistent enough in a 3 week race to be on par with Vingo or Tadej. When was the last time he didn't have a crash or crisis on a grand tour? You just can't have 1,2,3 bad days when going against these two, it's an instant game over. We saw how that went for Tadej in 2023. In my opinion, Primoz is currently the 4th best grand tour rider, behind Tadej, Vingo and Remco. Can he win the TDF? Very unlikely, unless there are injuries, crosswinds and a LOT of luck on his side. Can he win in other Grand Tours? Yes, that he can. Primoz has the best chance against Tadej in a one week race - less chance to crash and bonk, while having the energy to rip it in the uphill finish. But I would still give the edge to Tadej, despite the fact that Primoz is on the verge of becoming the first to win all the best one week races (just one to go).
You are allowed to host the show with me because I agree with everything you said, except Remco being better than Roglic. But understand it’s very very close between the two, so I’m ok with you believing it. Even if it’s not true. 😂🦋👊
@@ChrisHornerCycling Just name the time and place and I'll be there! 😂 It would probably still be a tossup between Primoz and Remco. Remco has that brutal time trial that Primoz just can't match. Or anyone else for that matter. How he keeps beating even Gana is beyond me - he's so much smaller and not as still on the bike. It would then be on Primoz to pull back time - before this year's TDF I thought that would be an easy job for Primoz, but I'm not so sure anymore. Remco really impressed me with his consistency and showed signs that he could really match Primoz in the high mountains, while on the short mountain sprints Remco can match and probably beat Primoz and that's saying something, since Primoz has a brutal final short sprint and a ton of wins to support that. With Remco his decision making is a bit suspect, just look at the last two races, so for sure that is something Primoz can exploit. So in summary - we clearly saw this year that Remco is progressing nicely as a GT rider. He has a trump card with time trialing, great short uphill sprints and decent high mountains, but still has some weaknesses where Primoz can take back time. I'm giving a slight edge to Remco, but not on the level that there's no way that Primoz can do it.
@@tonyg3091 You're correct, Vuelta 2024 was probably his most consistent GT ever, he even handled that sickness in the last few days like a boss, especially when you consider how his teammates got decimated. The only thing I didn't like is letting O'Connor take such a big advantage. I guess I have such a high PTSD from "Primoz in the last week of the Vuelta" history that this year didn't wipe it away. :)
Very good comment. But for this year I put Rogla #2 in the world based on what he accomplished, but yeah I understand if the race is on right now he would be behind Jonas and probably Remco.
Rog is definitely a legend and he’s beaten Pog before and even road him off the wheel (See SLO. National Champs). This years version Pog is scary though. Chris outside of Rog’s ability to win with less than stellar race craft, what are you seeing in Rog that can challenge this years Pog?
Love you always and love Primoz, but the fact you even considered that a healthy Primoz could be ahead of Tadej on your list is ludicrous. Tadej is just at another level and has been for the last 5 years despite losing the TDF to a superior team and bad tactics 2 of those years.
I am not a fan of saying that a sport needs a cyclist. It is the same as saying basketball needs lebron or the nfl needs brady. There's a quote that goes around by a youtuber called tom scott that goes "all things must end" and that is important for careers. Guys like Primoz will have to end their careers at some point and it's very tough to leave as the no.4 in the world at mountains. I would rather see him go at 4 than stay too long and leave at 40 for example. There's a great core of riders who can take the mantle so when lance left it was the schleks and contodor, when they left it was wiggins, froome and nibali, and when they left it was thomas, bernal, pogacar and vingegaard. There will always be a new star made no matter how fast or slow the next generation is. Love Primoz, great bike rider, but if he wants to retire, then that is his choice and he should go with what he thinks is right :)

He said he thought about it after crashing out of the Tour but obviously picked himself up and went to win La Vuelta. Therefore this speculations are baseless, they are based on nothing. If he's not in form at the end of the season it's probably because he's tired, not because he's thinking of retiring.

Roglic! ❤❤❤
With every crash comes time for contemplation. His career stands for itself, excellent pro with an ability to teleport to victories up most climbs, tremendous flair and style on the bike despite his (many) crashes. Racecraft wise your point stands. Not the ultimate touch and feeling that riders like Tadej Pogacar and Mathieu van der Poel have
Can handle the brutal pressure that comes with crashes and a view missed opportunities at the Ultimate price. Bounced back every time. Strong and full of grit. Despite cycling being a team sport which he understands. A man of his own and he can do what he wants to do.
Whatever he does. All the best to him. 🙏
Never too late to develop and strengthen our weaknesses. No matter how long we’ve been active in our craft. I agree with you, Chris.
I truly hope he doesn't retire. My favorite Rider. Roglic has the goods and the personality to boot. He's a family Guy for sure and you can see that after each race stage. Wife and kid are always front and center. I think he retires after next year or maybe 2026. He's had a great run.
Nice to see that you are gaining subs...keep up the good work
Yes on all counts.
Yep. That one impression is hard to forget. 😱😬🦋🙈👀
I would hate to see Primoz retire.
At least (before he retires) Roglic should try to win tour de Suisse and put Big 7! under his belt.
Oh you only watch the tour
The young kid called Baby Pog was neatly handed his tiny ass over to him by Primoz in 2019 Vuelta 😅
Of course times are different now, Baby Pog turned into Pog the Destroyer and Primoz is entering the last years of his career so of course he is not able to compete with the best cyclist in the history of cycling anymore.
Try to find the video of Slovenian championship, you will see Roglic sprinting away from Pogacar 😉
Pog can have a bad day
You obviously haven't watched Roglic enough.
And with the Horners, Roglic is even better!
Primoz is the man, along with🎉 Victor!! 😂
My man 😂👊🦋
Our man!
Tadej is poetry in motion on a bike - his vision and positioning are uncanny.
I hope Primoz stays, but it's too late for him to acquire TP's vision/race-craft.
(Also someone should tell primoz that his TT bike changes are costing him time)
here, here
Roglic has not done a tt except at Basque Country (which he won) when he was 100% fit. This season. That said, Remco is still a very special TT rider also, which won’t help Roglic look very good in a tt to often. 🦋🤔👍
@@ChrisHornerCycling Yeah, these coming years Kid will be untouchable in TTs. Unless they are a bit hilly where Pog will beat him.
The racecraft of Pog- positioning, vision, timing etc could only be matched by that of Sagan.
I would love to see Primoz vs Pogacar at the Vuelta.
In 2025 will see that for sure. Pogacar wants to win every race, so la Vuelta should be his next goal (and maybe Roubaix, I would love to see that battle against van der Poel).
i like roglic. that dude has zero anxiety and lives in the moment
. . . and We appreciate Chris Horner.
👍 Let's hope for the same "race craft" for Alaphillipe as well!
Chris, don’t hold back! throw down the challenge for oldest grand tour winner in the universe (why stop at galaxy?) with Primoz!
Love ya bro’
fascinating take. I hope you’re vindicated!
🤞🦋👊
Chris, I was hoping you would do a review of gravel worlds. It was a Knucklehead Festival for Team Belgium, but it seems like the Alpecin boys were riding for Vanderpool. Stuyven was really upset.
Staying healthy is one of the hardest things to do and that is the only way for sports champions to have a long career.
9th
Primoz is a competitor. I don't think he will retire this winter or next. I think Bora will start getting ready to prepare with a new gc guy though.
So you believe that Roglic left one team only to get the same drama at another. 😱🦋👍🤔
I like drama. 😂🦋👊
Juan Ayuso incoming 2026
@ChrisHornerCycling just saying, he can't be the #1 at every grand tour.
@@ericvonhellens8822 I'm pretty sure his contract explicitly states he is the sole GC leader in 2024 and 2025 (unless he has really bad injuries or doesn't perform well enough). But he knows his time is almost done. Really hope he makes it or at least gets close in 2025...
Chris! Go work with Primoz..go coach him! If he could race like you did, WOW
It is a bit late for that, don’t you think?
Like Primož is lacking of coaches? He had best coaches existing.
And I believe Primož’s career is a bit better, with all due respect…😅
I said this countless times - if Roglic manages to avoid those crashes he might be the one rider capable of competing with Pogacar here and there…
The biggest challenge, is knowing how to retire at the right time. 🦋👊👍🇨🇭
Most of his crashes are not downhill. The problem is concentration. Same for me. I stay concentrated on downhill.
Disagree over Roglic being as good as Pogacar. A 21yo Pogacar without a team beat a prime Roglic in 2020. This year version of Pogacar is the best rider ever.
He isn't as good as Pog. Nobody is.
Of course you know better than ex-pro cyclist with GT win
@@Blaz-l9kThis was not an attack on Chris or Roglic. There is nothing that Roglic did in his career that puts him near this version of Pogacar.
Yep, from them current big GC riders Roglic is the coolest.
He has to finish a tdf before he retires man
Official he has finished second and few other spots but I agree with you, that Roglic needs another good try at the TdF for some redemption before he retires. 🤞🦋👍
Roglic: "Chris relax. The only thing I will ever re-tire, is the worn-out rubber on my rims!"
I don't think people really understand how he was a vital part of Pogachamps world win race, Him, Tracnik, and Pogy worked the perfect plan in my opinion
Well said Chris...I suspect he will retain the Veulta regardless...He could make a career out of post ride interviews!
Primoz is a ski jumper thats good at cycling 😂 never gonna have the bikecraft of Tadej 😂 . But fit and crash free I'd put him as no. 3
Agreed 🤪🦋👊⛷️
It looks like Chris’ record is safe for at least another 16 years… Pogacar is only 26 at the moment 😅
Pro cycling is primo with Primoz. 😀
Primoz is in every slovenian ❤ at 1. Place… Tadej is just the best in evey other classification :)
The Alien: Pogacar
The Anchovy: Vingegaard
The Skier: Roglic
The Focusyn: Remco
I don’t mind it this time. Good one savage
Someone has been watching uncle cycling 😂
It would probably still be a tossup between Primoz and Remco.
@@mihakanzyani don’t you count the Vuelta as a Grand Tour?
Because the last time Primoz did not have a crisis in a GT was pretty recently.
Alaphilippe is a crash pilot too.
He will ride for another two seasons. His words.
Usually agree wholeheartedly, but right now it’s Pogi > Jonas >>>>>> Remco > Primoz.
Maybe training wheels on Rogla's bike would do the trick? ;)
Rog is definitely a legend and he’s beaten Pog before and even road him off the wheel (See SLO. National Champs). This years version Pog is scary though. Chris outside of Rog’s ability to win with less than stellar race craft, what are you seeing in Rog that can challenge this years Pog?
Primoz great rider. Past his prime though so every year the gap to TP gets wider. None of these guys were close to TP this year.
I’m not a fan of leaving to early either. 👊🦋
@@ChrisHornerCycling i think you chris were the finest of all the wines of cyclists at your position followed by cavendish and valverde.
Everyone's drive and ambition is different and i think most cycling fans want to see prime roglic back to tdf form pre stage 20 so let's see what happens
How many more Grand Tours would Geraint of won without the crashes
A question , when riding in the peleton do u have to be focused 100% of the time for all those hours
Sometimes yes. But not at all the races. Depends on the courses and how hard everyone wants to race a certain course. 🤔🦋👊
How to you compare Roglic to Wout as he also crashes alot
Roglic is one of my favorites. Unfortunately, situational awareness isn’t something that can be taught. It’s an instinct.
You are very biased and I like it.
what triggered the speculation of Roglic's retirement? Did he give a recent interview indicating as much?
He said he thought about it after crashing out of the Tour but obviously picked himself up and went to win La Vuelta. Therefore this speculations are baseless, they are based on nothing. If he's not in form at the end of the season it's probably because he's tired, not because he's thinking of retiring.
Primozzzz wining Il Lombardia 2024!
Do you think roglic and also remco are crashing so often because they came from other sports and didnt come up the «right» way like pogacar who began riding at like age 6
He's going a bit the Valverde way: one of the best carreers, but missing some peak performances. Poulidor had it before, and Wout Van Aert mag have the same issue. Take out Pogacar, Anquetil and Van der Poel, and those guys dominate the field.
Is Laporte in form to win Piemonte or Lombardi coming up, after winning Paris-Tours??
Roglic gets so much unnecessary hate
Maybe Roglic should pull a "Lance": skip a lot if not all "minor" races and just show up for the Tour fresh and injury free?
