- After completing the "main" campaign, you'll reach the end-game of Dragon Quest 11. In the past, you'll spend most of your time preparing for the climactic battle against the origin of all evil, Calasmos.
This hulking brute is incredibly tough. Even if you've reached Level 99, this foe can easily wipe your party, or grind you down into dust over the course of the battle. To defeat him, you need to prepare, and there's one incredibly important item that's absolutely required for victory.
Weaken Calasmos With The Super Sword of Light
The Super Sword of Light is a weapon you'll automatically collect as you progress through Part 3. The Super Sword of Light can only be equipped by the Hero, and you'll need it to weaken Calasmos.
Equip the Super Sword of Light, or put the Super Sword of Light in the Hero's inventory before facing off against Calasmo!
To use the Super Sword of Light, select "Item" on the Hero's turn, then select the Super Sword of Light. Doing so during the Calasmos fight will dispel the fog around Calasmos, making him much weaker. He attacks less per turn, does less damage, and takes more damage.
Preparing For Calasmos
Get to Level 70+. Use the Metal Slime farming technique linked above for an easier strategy. Farming Metal Slimes can earn you 5+ Levels per battle.
Equip the best armor / weapons. For powerful armor and weapons, repair Cobblestone to unlock Derk's store. Derk sells impressively powerful end-game gear. Again, there's a guide for that in the links above.

Was about to friggen quit when other vids showed Super Sword of Light to expose this boss, but didn't know how to do it. Thanks so much for the clarity. At level 99 on my characters, it should be a much easier battle now. Best RPG EVER!!!!
I never knew about using the sword. Instead I grinded to level 99, and toughed out every hit healing when needed (I read up and saw the tip to heal when a party members health fell below 1/3 when possible), and even after he murdered the Luminary, Serena, and Erik, the next turn I had Veronica use Magic Burst and….. that was the straw that broke the camels back. All while he had that damn shadow shield up buffing him. And I can’t help but feel proud of beating a gods ass AT HIS PEAK POTENTIAL NO LESS

Well... I beat him on my first try without taking off the shroud of darkness... barley. He was so tough i figured there HAD to be something I missed and.. yep there it is. I was using the wrong version of the sword. smh.

I'm actually kinda glad I didn't knew that, probably would've used it. Beating him without using this method felt incredibly satisfying. But it's great that it's there, as the game wasn't that hard most of the time. Also, this might be the only way for most people to make it through hard mode, which I haven't tried yet. Thanks for the video. :)
Beating him with his Shadow Shield active really helps sell the premise of fighting a Dark God so powerful few have even a snowballs chance in Mt. Huji at lasting a few turns against him, let alone defeat him in combat.
Fusion of Cell monaka and porunga
Reminds me of the God Bird's Staff from DQ8 had to pray to that for the Sage's to appear to get rid of the Ominous Aura.

If you ppoision him first and then use divide with erik and then use victimizer youd do 3x 6x the damage
Too risky imo, chances are you take long until he's poisoned and when he is he probably won't be anymore when you attack him if you also use divide, especially with all of his status changing effects

I was able to kill this boss at level 60 or below.
I simply made quests that strengthened the abilities of Serena, the hero and Bodo.
You don't have to disarm the sword.
As soon as it is the hero's turn, you simply have to select the sword, regardless of whether it is upgraded or downgraded.
So what was the point of the Supreme Sword of light?

You can have the super sword of life in your equipment bag to use it as an item
Stronger sword that can go to +3. That’s it really

Didn’t the Watcher in Drustan’s Trial Isle say that you had to use the Super Sword of Light against Calasmos? Did other people miss that?
He did but. The way the Watcher spoke I assumed he was talking about Cetacea breaking the Dark Star barrier he was building up power in before he felt ready to raze Erdrea from memory and recognisability
dragon quest 11 is the 1st story before all dragon quest series whaaaatt ive been asking who is erdrick since dq3 and here he is its the hero of dq 11 appointed by the yggdrasil

You don't have to equip the sword to use it.
Im level 99 and he still kicks my ass.
Dude I just did this fight and got smashed into the ground on stream. I ended my stream absolutely defeated and now I see this thing about the sword... god dammit. I also didn't go do the trials cause I just want the game to be over, jfc.

What is the great sword you are using with the Luminery?
It's the Brilliant Blade, you can get it if you complete Hama's final trial in fewer than 30 moves. FYI, it's the best greatsword in the game.

Looks like another liar. I did the same THING as u. BUT i didn't get the same results as u. The shell didn't break at all the only thing that DID happen. Was the what ever that was around him DID disappear. AND that's all. AND still couldn't BEAT him.

That's what he says. The sword will remove the purple mist and make him weaker but his shell won't break until you've damaged him enough
