He makes the easy stuff look difficult. Nobody has ever questioned his athletic ability. He has a great arm. The problem is he processes the defense too slow and waits to throw. Idk if he's big play hunting but there is a play from the Bills game where he has a wide open receiver 10-15 yards in the middle of the field and he's looking at the guy through a giant hole in the pocket and decides to take off to his right. We saw this every game with the Bears. It drives you nuts because when he makes a play it looks so good but so again, he makes the easy stuff look difficult.

    • @noahjames1985

haha yeah I think I know exactly what play youre talking about...I saw a youtube compilation of Fields holding on to the ball instead of passing and you could see the receivers throwing their hands up in the air in frustration. @@DAMillich-lg9mz I think the problem w/JF is that in college it was a simple O that was if it's open, and it normally will be chuck it, if not tuck it and run. In Chicago, the team wasn't built to support a young qb that needed time, so JF had to scramble and run a lot, doesn't seem he is capable, or willing to grow out of it. Maybe it's b/c social and sports media praised him for his legs and running his first 2 years.
Either way, if the coaching staff cannot fix his mental blocks it doesn't matter what his physical gifts are. Every NFL player is an elite physical talent, what makes/breaks players is their football IQ and willingness to learn and work ehtic to perfect their craft.

Chase Daniels with the honest reviews, straight facts.
My concern with athletic QB is their overreliance on one WR. They will literally stare down one man hoping they get open, then run before they even think about option 2 or 3. None of them ever walk to the line and scout what the defense is doing in the background, just line up and run plays, never figuring out how the play fits in to what the defense is doing.

GREAT commentary; very helpful to a novice football-head (basketball 24/7 until about 1 year ago). I play a lot of Madden, and have been Fields a bit on CHI in '24 and now PIT in '25 . Throwing Accuracy is a big concern because his legs can't get him out of a lot of the s(h)ituations he's put in b/c of a bad offensive line (as shown in these clips here) but I also just can't process the field fast enough to either make the correct read from Jump or stay alive to improvise and pick things up after getting by initial pressure. Lots of big plays off luck b/c of the athleticism and basic FB knowledge but lots of picks too or turnovers on downs.... So I see what Chase is saying here with JF2 and not making the right reads to start. Fields is def a bright guy -- thoughtful, well-spoken in interviews -- but for whatever reason real-life IQ isn't football IQ. And I don't think he can ever overcome that to the point where the athleticism meets the mental aspects enuf to fulfill his considerable potential. Which is a shame.

The Steelers went through a ton of mediocrity between Bradshaw and Roethlisberger; this is not a team that's ever going to give up a ton of draft capital to trade into the Top 3 and hope it pays off.

He has had a few great games with the Bears, like his 5 TD game against Washington, but he had way too many games where he just couldn’t see the field. After games he always looked depressed as heck and seemed too passive. He started 38 games for Chicago over 3 years with 10-28 record, losing a lot. He had 60% completion percentage, with 40 TD passes and 30 INT. His QBR was 82.3. He has two advanced degrees and already has a net worth of $15,000,000!! The defense is sitting on Fields instead of bailing like they would with pocket QB'S... that's why the timing seems off. That's just how i played against mobile QB'S when i played semi pro. I never overreacted on passing plays. It's like basketball. I'll stay down for you to shoot and miss the tree, but I'm not giving you the lane for an easy layup. Too me Fields isn't a 3 pt assassin or a D.Rose to the basket, but he's one helluva scorer.

So frustrating. You have to find out quickly if a player is coachable. The kid can play. He has a confidence problem which is coaching problem. If the ball is not coming out, it's coaching. Ball out, ball out. If the ball is not coming out, he shouldn't be on the field. He rarely pump fakes and fires. He's rarely deliberate. I have little patience for timidity and lack of confidence. You speed practice up and force the ball out. He doesn't take this long to find out. Push him to succeed or fail. NFL coaching and development is weak, especially for QBs. A simple pump fake can expose a defense, move or freeze defenders.

Justin had bad footwork on the last throw which caused the ball to sail. Instead of turning his body to the right and striding towards the receiver, he strides to the left and opens up his body which causes the ball to sail. The receiver slowing down some didn’t cause the ball to sail high. Even if he would have kept running hard, the ball would have been behind him and high.
Justin’s issues are easy to sum up. He doesn’t trust what he sees which causes him to take too long, he has bad footwork and throwing arm positions and he doesn’t read defenses well. He also has an ego problem that doesn’t allow him to take coaching well. He had so much success in high school and college doing his own thing that he thinks he is better than everybody else and makes better decisions than anyone.
He developed a lot of bad habits doing his own thing but he had so much success doing things his way that he won’t admit that it DOESN’T do work in the NFL. When the Bears tried to teach him, he blamed coaching for his problems in an after game press conference last year. Then when Nick Foles tried to help him, he ignored him. Justin’s biggest problem is his ego.
