Awe so cute, I have 7 budgies now and every morning I take off their cover, and they start chirping all day 🤣🤣 and get even louder when you watching TV🤣🤣
As soon as I uncover my girls cage the whole house knows that I am up and awake. She only sings once the cover comes off even if I am a bit late. Though she will do other things like plucking the cage bars if I am late. I swear she has a clock in her head.
I had one budgie for about 3 1/2 yrs then finally got another. I remember when Angel was young he was exceptionally friendly he was in my finger day one. In no time he adapted and now hops on my finger readily and chirps all day. I wanted to get him away from being mirror obsessed and got another bird. Now Mirage (Mira for short) who I think is a female is quiet but she is not afraid of me just my hand. I was angry because they ended up chasing her around the store when they were trying to get her in the box. This was a reputable bird breeder!! Must have been new at staff or something. Anyway this probably made her more hand shy. I had her in my finger third day but reluctantly. But she was hand fed bird. Cost more for these but I highly recommend it. Makes taming a bit easier. Also having a new bird with a tame bird works wonders. She follows Angel around and when she sees him get close to me or sit on a dowel with me she will too. She looks at me closely but doesn’t fly away. It works! Just some two cents from a budgie obsessed pet owner ;)
I was so scared in the first 3-4 days when I got my 5 budgies 3 months ago that I literally couldn't sleep of fear that they are not eating/drinking, I literally placed 5 different plates of food in each cage (I have 2 cages). Now however they are comfortable eating seeds, pallets and veggies in front of me or from my hand and is just such a joy. I have another question tho, I watched your videos about their diet and what they should eat, however since they all love veggies so much, they always prefer it over the pellets and seeds and I know veggies such as carrots and kale should be given once a week since they contain lots of vitamin A or iron/calcium, but which veggies are safe to be given every day that wouldn't cause vitamin/mineral deficiency? Their favorite is broccoli and cauliflower, can they be given every day or twice a day? If not, are there better veggies to be given more than once a day and would be ok? I chop them veggies in the morning and after I remove the veggie dish after couple of hours and not put another thru the day they get really cranky about it
With the grit comment. I actually believe that they would have budgies on the front of their grit boxes. That's how pathetic some companies are, its disgraceful & sad. 😠
Yesterday I got a female baby budgie, apparently she is 2 months old. When the night came, she was suspended on the cage's corner. I thought she was afraid and tried to make her go to sleep on the porches, but she would always come back to the corner and stay there, hanging. I thought that there was some kid of problem until this video. Thanks!
When i got my budgie she was so stressed from being suddenly in a new home that she slept the whole night hanging on the crate on the side and not on a perch. I think it's very stressful for them to be suddenly in a new place where everything is unfamiliar
All this information is terrific, it is great you outlined, to wait at least 3 weeks for the budgie to adapt, getting approximate timelines really help me.
Thank you so much, I am a new Budgie owner and have actually messaged. Thanks for answering quickly too. I love your channel. It’s the best one out there. I just bought a “buddy “ for my rescued Parakeet. After quarantine I put him in her cage, although it’s young and might actually be another SHE. They are doing a lot of staring, but I think they’ll be fine. ❤️
Let me see your parakeet? I used to pet a budgie along time before I guess my age was 7 or 8yrs old 1st I started pet a budgie, again after a long time the year 2008 I bought a young baby budgie, 2008 is very difficult year for me but I bought because I love animals and birds after few months my country announce States of emergency alert and i got locked into my office for couples of months, I get 30mins to visit my family, in that 30mins I spend more minutes with my budgie rather than my wife, because my wife getting a bit nervous to feed it, than I don't have any other choice I gave it to my friend, now again I bought a baby budgie and a young budgie.
Great tips you gave me Budgie world! I went through hard times when i lost my Violetta budgie male. I feel so badly because i gave him grit all his life! Maybe i killed him? I didn't know any better because no one told me and the store said i should buy grit for them as well! I now have another budgie male, and i will never buy grit again! Learned my lesson the hard way. They still sell a lot of stuff that is not allowed and people don't care.
Thank You for this video! I adopted 2 very young budgies- they are bonded- and was worried about most of what you talked about in the video! So far the only time they talk is to tell my Sun Conure to shut up!😂 That is what I think they are saying!!😂🤣
My budgie didn't chirp until the second day when I arrived home from the store and opened the door of our room. We had a connection from the second we met as she panicked with any ones hands near her but with me she stayed glued to the cage side closest to me. You forgot two things that had me worried at first, beak grinding and night terrors.
I adopted a cage of 4 budgies, (they’re a year and a half and have had likely 0 positive interaction) it’s been 2 months and just today I had one ALMOST eat some millet from my hand. Outside of that, they’re still pretty terrified when I need to re fill their seed cups. They do chirp and play with each other, Even if I’m in the room, but if I come near the cage, they hush up. It’s just gonna take time.
I'm someone who is completely new to bird care. My mother left me with a male budgie she had because she was getting stressed out after the cat she recently got knocked his cage down and she just suddenly thrust the responsibility onto me. That said I think he's a very pretty little guy. He was really uncomfortable with me at first (been about a day since I had him writing this) and I can tell the falling of his cage while he was inside must have traumatized him a bit, he seemed terrified whenever I was around at first. That said I've had his cage set in an area of the house I often hang around and he's a little chatterbox. I still can't get him to trust me enough to come out of the cage or onto my hand yet. I assume that would also take some time? I'm hoping I can take care of him well enough.

I'm definitely stressing about 1 of my new budgies. It tends to stay in one place so far and slept a lot. This made me less worried but he/she could be sick. It also ate a lot less than the other? This could be that maybe she/he is more comfortable. I don't know but it's worrying,
I just got four male budgies and I really want to develop a relationship with each one is a better to keep them in two rather than one big cage? I was thinking that if they were in the same cage when I removed one for 24 hours to work with it, it will be less dramatic.
I was worried for them too. When they go to sleep, bluey, the blue-white budgie, has been biting himself, and Greenwich, the green-black-yellow budgie, seems to be girl and she would always bite me even if I just put my hand inside the cage without any movement
I bought a lot of expensive different organic seeds but they like the garbage seed 🤬 I mixed some of cheap seed in so they won't starve. Oh no I bought grit. My Dad always had Budgies and gave them grit. They all lived a long time 🤔
I do have a slight worry that wasn't mentioned in the video though. This might not be a beginner thing, but one of my birds are doing something that looks suspiciously like breeding behavior to mostly everything in their cage.
