I found this video to be the surprise of my life. This is Rhoda's great 1972 performance on national TV in Budapest, Hungary, of which program I happened to be the musical director. I still cherish a small card with her picture and a personal thank you note for the good sound. She was and still is an amazing musician!
The B3 is the funkiest instrument. There is nothing like it to hear a master playing one live. There is a sound that comes through the floor and and the air that makes your body feel good, your soul open up and the little hairs on the back of your neck stand up.
Agreed but technically that's a C3 she's playing. Since she's a lady and she came out of the church they didn't mess around back in the day ladies unless they wore pants played C3s and men played B3s in the church. I'm sure you know this I just still had to let it be known.✌🏽
Simply amazing, its rare to find any fluent organ musician with this much control over the instrument, especially the bass pedals. This has to be one of the best renditions of the song I've ever heard and it has no dull moments, I could listen to this all day.
@tehtube You lucky bastard. What a gem. My grandmother played like that; she worked for Hammond from about 1957 until Hammond closed its franchise here in the early 1980s. She taught hundreds of people to play, including me. But I didn't get all the genes, because I can't play like that.
The revolution used to be televised. God I will always love that soulful sound of the B3 played by gifted folk like Rhoda. Rare to see shots of the feet at work on those pedals. SO sweet thanks
Bravó!! --- ez zene a javábol!!!! 1976.-- an itt volt Budapesten! Volt szerencsem latni! NAGY ÉLMÉNY VOLT!! Mély nyomot hagyott bennem a zenéje!Akkor a Hungár Hotels-- nél dolgoztam.mint rend. szervezó!!😄
She moved to France way back in 1967 and has spent much of her career there - as a result, she didn't ever receive the recognition she deserves in the USA.
Tinha me esquecido dela. A achei da primeira vez justamente pesquisando sobre outra incrível organista, Shirley Scott, hoje a achei novamente. Essa versão de moanin' é incrível. A por Shirley Scott tbm. I forget about her, now i was searching for Shirley Scott and I found out Rhoda again. This Moanin' version is great as well. Thanks for upload... Greetings from Brazil.
WOW! Now I've listened to Jimmy Smith and Jimmy Mcgriff and they are both awesome B3 masters. But why haven't I heard of Rhonda Scott before now. She is extremely awesome on the organ and I will be on the look out for any of her recordings if any are available. She has a new fan.
I am a boy who is nearly 14 years old. I love jazz and think it is the coolest thing in the world. This lady makes me swing and dance and she is just so cool! It's especially cool at 1:52 because I've never heard or seen another B-3 organist do that before. In my oppinion I think that she is better that Jimmy McGriff.
show her in my youth in a disco in Scheveningen (The Hague, the Netherlands) and I love her as much I like Jimmy Smith which I saw in that time in Rotterdam. Bought discs immediately of Jimmy as well of rhoda Scott and listen many times.
"play that thang" girl!......thanks for finding you. I'm a B-3 guy from Reno and really love your music and style............GOD BLESS YOU...........Donald
Actually, according to her bio, Rhoda is the daughter of an AME minister and learned to play orginally in various churches and playing for choirs. It would great to hear her in that context!
WHOOAA!!!!!!! Feet in those hose pumpin' them pedals and clawin' at them keys. This is somethin' to get lost in. HOT HOT HOT HOT HOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PURE GENIUS. Nothin' like it out there now. Maybe people are praising this because today's children have lost the spirit to make real music and couldn't do it like this if they tried. This is talent and FIERCE.
Like others here I wondered why I'd never heard of her so I did a little research. Turns out she's spent most of her adult life in France. Smart move. She always plays barefoot because it gives her a better feel for the bass pedals 0:13
@AnerStroz nah man you're alright. everybody have their opinion in things and once we get to clarify ourselves we understand each other. it is good to know that there're still good people who appreciate such refined music like this out there. peace
Yes, I must agree with you, phigra97 my young jazz lover. She is an awesome organist and I've known plenty of female organist who would run circles around many of male B3 organists myself included.
It's a C without the cover (or a CV) and she cut the front panel so that you can see her feet. I also noticed that she has the leslie switch on the side. But it's so amazing how she can do this with one instrument. I've attempted but I guess I'm not made for doing such things.

My husband asked me if i ever heard of her - i said no - he said she was very popular in Hungary so i looked her up and found this! So Cool!
Great. Sure, she was unique.
Később én is láttam.Hofi paródiát csinált belőle
TODAY SHE'S ABOUT 80YRS OLD, STILL GOING STRONG IN ENERGY WHEN PERFORMING! - AMAZING WOMAN!!!!!
Before the lockodown, I saw her in a jazz bar in Paris... This was one of the best moments of my life. Thank you Rhoda, you're eternal
I guess she loves her job
And when I say that I mean she really LIKES HER JOB LIKE DAMN WOMAN
@@abmusicfrance same for me ! 👍
One Hammond organ, two keyboards, two hands, one foot pedal, one foot bass line, one beautiful woman!!!

That little call and response lick at 1:34 is soooo pretty
incredible!! she plays the bass line with her left foot!!
This is very nice. What a nice groove and superb pedal work.

C'est vrai. Elle était connue en France dans les années 70 et 80. Une artiste incroyable!
WOW WOW WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
From a mad keen 76yo Aussie fan.
I saw her this year in Villebon sur Yvette (I know that Villebon is a very famous village in France:-).
Rhoda is a great musician and a great person.
La classe 👍
Rhoda is so funky. There is so much great organ duo or trio stuff out there. Rhoda really has this style nailed. Check out that DIY Leslie switch.

Wow brilliant playing, swings like the clappers!!!!!!
I saw her live in Brussels in the late seventies, she is the coolest!
Right around the 1:38 mark really invokes that early 70's vibe.Definitely "stirs up a few ghosts" for me.
The same passion and joy of playing as Esperanza Spalding now !
an inspiration for many hammond 3 players!
Да! вот это действительно было искусство! Не то что сейчас тупая стыдоба...
une musicienne extraordinaire, côté choix musical et le jeu de son instrument.
