I've watched waffle house make their hashbrowns and they def spoon on some melted margarine to get the hashbrowns golden brown without those burnt spots.

Followed your instructions, thank you! I finally did it. I used Simply potatoes in cast iron, but I used half butter half oil and salt and peppered the pan b4 putting in hash, it cane out burnt.
    SO THEN:
I followed recipe in a non stick copper skillet.. kinda..
Butter and oil, sautéed onion with S&P.. removed them.
Added more butter and oil on med-hi heat, add S&P on pan before adding "Simply" potatoes to season both sides.. added in potatoes and turned my heat down to medium heat 30 seconds or less after I flipped them using my large wide pancake spatula
and finished off the recipe with onion and cheese.
Came out better than cast iron and better than waffle house!
Thanks for the tips, I've tried for yrs to make these and miserably failed

Years ago when I worked at WH we had different levels. My favorite was always ‘The big sloppy’ smothered, covered diced and chunked. Hash browns onions peppers, ham and bacon, topped with gravy, cheese and a sloppy egg (over easy) and hot salsa on the side. A biker that came through ordered and named it in our little town. And he wasn’t wrong, 💯 on point!

Great video but one important thing that Waffle House does is drop a dollop of unmelted butter on the griddle right and then put the uncooked hash browns on top of the butter. This helps with the browning and the crunchy texture.

I was a vegetarian for 15 years & live in Hawaii I recently decided to move to Virginia for better opportunities w/ education & around the same time I decided to start eating meat. My bf said we absolutely have to go to Waffle House I love hash browns so I was all in… let me tell you… my body went into some kind of high I’m not even kidding. I had the meat sweats & damn it was good. The closest one is abojt 40 min away so I don’t go often but I do often think abojt their hashbrowns I get hash brown bowl w/ egg cheese & bacon & a side waffle! Ty for the recipe I’m gonna make it at home haha

I gave it the college try with the Simply Potatoes for years -- I really did! They aren't terrible -- but they are hard to work with. They can easily become gummy. It's just easier and cheaper to use the frozen ones.

Frozen hash browns are just nasty. If done at medium to high heat potatoes shredded do work correctly. They need to be dry and a tablespoon of flour added. JS 💕

Okay so I have a few problems with this video the first one being it feels like you're trying to sell me on certain products and secondly it's not cooking if you're just using things from Frozen that you're just reheating
    On a pan.
If you're going to make a 7 minute long video then show people how to do it the correct way instead of trying to sell them on something using affiliate links to Amazon

Their griddle stays hot, all ingredients right in front of them, and a cook has each step down to a science. But, the only disadvantage I see? Their hash brown potatoes come in dehydrated, get reconstituted before each shift.

Slow down there! Waffle House uses dehydrated hash browns. Your hash browns are just regular shredded potatoes. I hate to be harsh, but Waffle House is serious business. You've committed an egregious act of journalistic and culinary malpractice.
